Barnacles as Traps[edit]

This information was added to the article by Moonraker:

Can also be found on the floor inside dungeons acting as a tread-trap (affected by Light Foot perk) which makes crunchy noise alerting enemies nearby.

Moonraker then also deleted it ("unconfirmed - need more testing"), but I'd already gotten curious and done some digging, so I figured I'd post the info here in case anyone wants details.

I searched the game data to see whether Nordic Barnacle Clusters are found in any interiors. I came up with 20 clusters in 7 different interiors. In a few of the cases these barnacles could be underwater, but in a couple of other cases I don't immediately see any signs of water in the area.

I noticed it in Dead Crone Rock, i was sneaking slowly and crunching noise alerted the nearby forsworn. After dealing with him i went back to check what made that sound and i am sure there was not anything else on the ground but Nordic Barnacle cluster. A bit later i was playing another character and found another Nordic Barnacle cluster in Snow Veil Catacombs, tho i was unable to reproduce/trigger the effect. I went back to Dead Crone Rock and was unable to reproduce it there too, so i removed my contrib.

I just did some more testing in Dead Crone Rock. There are no Nordic Barnacles acting as traps. You will get the crunchy sound for every second harvested cluster. That sound is hearable only by the player and thus not alerting enemies. In my case it was a pure coincidence because due to my snake skill enemy saw me exactly in the spot where nordic barnacle cluster was and i harvested it at the same time. From this i got the feeling it was a trap which it is not. Sorry for misinformation.

Cluster locations grossly overestimated[edit]

In Hela's Folly, Orphan's Tear and the Wreck of the Winter War, I couldn't find more than 18-20 per location after going through each of them with a fine-toothed comb. Can anyone confirm that the numbers posted (61, 45 and 42, respectively) are accurate? Were a bunch of clusters removed from the XBox version? 80.1.39.246 16:37, 22 January 2015 (GMT)
