Just how long...[edit]

How long have you guys had the perk, and were you still wearing the gloves when you timed it? I can't be certain, but I'd bet that the perk won't go away with the gloves still on? Had them on for days, perks still stay there. --DaedalusMachina 04:43, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

What it does[edit]

For me this quest has done this: Added an active effect "Fortify Magicka" named "DRAIN MAGICKA" with the effect discription listed as "+25 Fortify Magicka 2 hours", the actual effect is regenerate magicka +25 per second. This appears to be infinite in either case of finishing the quest or not.--Zar Pof 00:52, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Update: apparently after an unspecified amount of time, days later, the effect wears off and all returns to normal.--Zar Pof 05:37, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Gloves, and the buffs[edit]

There are two other buffs that do the same thing: A fortify magicka effect named "Fortify Magicka" for +25, and one other called Fortify Magicka that gives a +100. All three stack, and all three last about the same amount of time. 98.180.215.134 07:05, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Bug or Feature?[edit]

I am little bit confused why almost everyone claims that this buff is a bug. Let just think about that in the following way. One of respectful Master Wizards gives you some special gear to interact with a really poweful source of magic of the whole College. So what's a surprise that during this contact you absorb some sort of temporary(but long - actual real time 2 hours) power. These are actually are sources of mana for whole college (like "blue fontains" in Oblivion) and due to it all members of College never had an issue with lack of mana for their experiments.

Notice also that formal reward for completion of the quest is so small that without this buff (3 times) this quest doesn't make much sense to even bother.--89.23.179.126 05:48, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

"Drevis has warned that there may be side-effects to performing this task." These are the side effects. I'd say pretty handy! (I only saw "Drain Magicka, +25 Fortify Magicka for 2 hours".) The "bug" is the description?
--DayDreamer 00:36, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
If it's intentional, well then it's pretty game-breaking (but I suppose so are other parts of the game). I've gotten Illusion, Alteration and Conjuration to level 100 in no time because of this ~ Dwarfmp 06:40, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Don't know how you did that, but it's still pretty handy for those of us arriving at the College with the original Magicka 100, and doing the quest immediately. Also helpful getting Greater and Grand soul gems.

Still working?[edit]

It doesn't work for me. Could it be that this bug is now fixed with the latest patch (1.4)? Could anyone confirm? --24.132.213.61 00:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

PC still here with patch 1.5 beta.
--DayDreamer 00:36, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
PC 1.6. still got it, regen magicka almost instant .. 2 times for 100 fortify magicka (regen) ... 24.11.2012 — Unsigned comment by 88.83.169.27 (talk) at 08:47 on 24 November 2012‎
Xbox 360 1.8 you still get the "infinite" magicka from this quest... but not always. As the effect isn't a guaranteed side effect of the fountains. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 08:49, 24 November 2012 (GMT)

Bug/feature buff situation witch patch 1.5.24.0.5[edit]

The bug/feature still exists with patch 1.5.24.0.5. For me, it was a blessing because a dragon appeared above the center courtyard right after I completed the quest. The effect appeared as “Fortify Magicka, +100 Fortify Magicka 2 hours”. My full Magicka (270) did not change, but I was able to throw dual cast Fire Bolts (cost 46) without the Magicka bar even appearing.
The effect will not always be added while cleaning the focal points. Most of the time you’ll receive one Soul Gem per focal point.
The effect duration is counted in real time as with all effects. Waiting or sleeping for one hour will reduce the effect duration by 3 minutes, so the in-game duration is 40 hours. Holomay 07:39, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Actually, maximum 2 gems per location, keep hitting E. 1 of the 2 can be substituted with an "effect". So far, after many tests, it appears that the gems are entirely random, and there are 2 different effects that can be added, and they stack.

Reward for completion of quest.[edit]

I noticed that the reward noted for this quest is 'random' soul gems, however that seems to be untrue, as when I completed this quest, the gloves were removed, but yet I received no reward for the quest. Could this be specified to the chance that you may receive a soul gem upon purifying one of the focal points? If so, I recommend that it shouldn't be listed as the reward for the quest completion, as it's only per chance Helenaannevalentine 07:31, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

I just finished this one. Seems the soul gems come out of the focus wells with each well also giving a fortify magicka:one "mislabeled" as drain magicka for +25, and two fortifies for +100 - all for two hours. The gloves go away upon completion with no other rewards listed. (This was on Xbox.svg.) RCWizard (talk) 22:13, 12 October 2012 (GMT)
I can acknowledge that. I also got the soul gems from the focus wells and the fortify magicka effects (also the mislabeled one) (this was on PC)--92.204.15.26 21:24, 11 January 2013 (GMT)

“I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years.”[edit]

I have cleansed all three focal points and returned to Nevis. I cannot talk to him. All he does is say, “I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years.” Sometimes he seems to cower as though being attacked. He will even stay lying in bed and repeat the same phrase whenever I click on him.

Using PS3, no DLC

It sounds like one of the responses to seeing you absorbing a dragon soul, especially at the college, which seems to be one of their favourite spots to attack... As for a fix, I'm not sure, perhaps progress in the questline, or hope to kill another dragon near him. Sorry if this doesn't help MadAndyD (talk) 11:11, 18 May 2013 (GMT)

WOWWWW THat Sucks[edit]

I was playing on my normal warrior with no magic experience and I did the college quests. I just did the thing where you clean the focal points. Right after I enchanted a ring with magicka regain and shoot a random spell. I noticed my magika didn't go down at all. I was like "I'm a god, why did i never use magic before and then two hours later it took me 15 minutes to figure out why it ran out:( — Unsigned comment by 98.176.93.171 (talk) at 03:17 on 23 June 2013 (GMT)

"Adds a hidden bonus to your Magicka Regen."[edit]

This page mentions a hidden bonus to your Magicka Regen on Mystic Tuning Gloves. I've tried playing around with CK to find info on it but since I'm complete starter I couldn't figure out from where it comes. So, is it an actual permanent bonus or it's the "bug" everyone talks about? If former, what's the exact value of it?--Jyzzy (talk) 06:53, 21 August 2013 (GMT)

The page with quest items also states that the GLOVES add a hidden bonus to your Magicka regeneration. This seems unlikely, but if so, how much? Wouldn't this imply that I should consider keeping the gloves and not finishing the quest? Is there a way to get the gloves back without them being bugged as a quest item after the quest is done? (And if they aren't 'enchanted', can I enchant them?) 66.55.134.204 00:18, 21 May 2015 (GMT)

Pickpocketing the gloves impossible?[edit]

From the notes section:

"You can pickpocket the Mystic Tuning Gloves off of Neloren immediately after finishing the quest. However, they will be marked as quest items if you do so, meaning that it will be impossible to remove them from your inventory afterwards."

However in my experience you cannot pickpocket the gloves back. Nintendo Switch Skyrim Special Edition, unmodded, level 88 with high sneak, pickpocket, and many perks including to pickpocket equipped items. All Neloren is carrying is an iron dagger. I know many people wouldn't want to pickpocket these gloves since they'd get stuck in your inventory, but I tried anyway. Not sure if this should be removed from notes, maybe someone else can confirm. Sporky (talk) 15:42, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
