Kicked Out[edit]

does killing those random thieves that show up in riften from time to time (and are hostile to you) make you get kicked out? i can't think of anything else i could've done to get me kicked out. 92.24.51.252 06:05, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

No, it doesn't. ThuumofReason 01:43, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Any way to reset?[edit]

Is there a way to reset the flag that I've assaulted someone? All I did was walk into Riften as a stage 4 vampire and I didn't attack anyone. I wasn't even visible (Invisibility spell). I was just making my way to beggars row to feed on one of the bums and got a message about assaulting someone, which I didn't. I know I could just set the mission stage to completed, but I'd rather reset the flag, since it shouldn't have been tripped to begin with. --97.73.64.154 20:08, 29 October 2012 (GMT)

Dark Brotherhood quest interference and large bounty problem?[edit]

I recently completed the quest "Hail Sithis!" and didn't steal anything from the members of the guild, nor harm the members of the guild, and I was told to speak to Vex and complete Reparations.I have a large bounty in The Rift, and I was wondering if these two things caused this. — Unsigned comment by Alduin,Bane of Kings (talkcontribs) at 05:29 on 25 November 2012

If you had a Thieves Guild quest active you may have caused yourself to get a Blood Price for the killings. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:08, 25 November 2012 (GMT)
Interesting. I just got this bug, too (first time, out of 14 characters). I had just completed DB quests "To Kill an Empire" through "Hail Sithis!" while my TG quest "Speaking with Silence" is at the "Meet Mercer..." stage, so I think Silence is right about them conflicting. We should probably mention this in the Bugs section so people know, but which Bugs section would be appropriate? Minotaur (talk) 11:45, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
Minotaur: can you give me more details about when the Reparations quest popped up for you? I've done a preliminary scan in the Creation Kit and nothing jumps out at me, but there's a lot of ground to cover. Anything that might help narrow down the possibilities would be appreciated. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 18:30, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
Sorry for the long delay, but after playing Skyrim over 3100 hours in three years I needed to take a break. I'll be more active again now that I'm getting into ESO. It's fighting with Fallout 4, though, so allow for some delays. ;-)
I'm trying to recall what led up to it last year. Since patch 1.9 unbroke Lucan (Riverwood Trader), I'd had to go to the Ragged Flagon to get enough vendors in one place anytime I wanted to sell off stuff. I was tired, so I had run the quests "To Kill an Empire" through "Hail Sithis" between Flagon trips. One of the Flagon venders or Tonilia would have been the one that told me that I had fallen out of their good graces, and when I opened my journal to check, sure enough the Reparations quest was listed there. As for when the notification actually popped up, I don't think that it ever did. I don't remember ever seeing a notification that the quest had started, I just had the result of not being able to use any of the TG services.
I have thought a lot about the location to put the bug information. This is tricky, since the bug tends to pervade both Thieves and Brotherhood questlines. It might be most helpful to put warnings up on both the TG and DB main faction pages, as well as on the Recipe for Disaster page. This will give people the most chance to be warned ahead of time, and I think the Recipe quest is the actual culprit since it is the one that gives you the automatic 1000 bounty in Solitude. Getting such a bounty during a TG quest is probably what triggered Reparations. Can you tell if the spot to meet Mercer actually located within the boundaries of Solitude Hold?
In fact, I wonder now if a bounty jump to 1000 in any hold where a TG quest is situated may just assume that you murdered someone and trigger Reparations. If that is the case, we could have an even more systemic issue with Reparations triggering if people turn into werewolves, vampire lords or do anything else that incurs a large bounty while they are in the same region as an active TG quest site. Minotaur (talk) 04:42, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm...looking through the way the quest works, it appears that only the following people can possibly trigger Reparations. I don't see any methods of triggering the quest other than by killing or stealing from these people. There doesn't appear to be anything related to bounty or anything along those lines. I'll see if I can do anything to trigger it, though, just to cover all our bases.
None of these people look like they're ever part of the DB quest line, but it's possible some of them are incorrectly radiant targets or something. Do any of these ring any bells for you as people you might have assassinated for some reason or another?

As for where to put this, I'd say we shouldn't put it under a specific quest until we can be sure that that quest is actually at fault. We normally try to avoid double-posting things, so I would say this should either go on the DB page or maybe even just here on this page. Robin Hood  (talk) 05:04, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Dirge was long dead and paid for already. He's got a bad attitude, so the first time he threatens to kill me and drop me in the drink, I do it to him and pay the fine. The others are all still alive AFAIK. I fled Solitude without killing anyone or being spotted aside from the scripted parts, so I don't think anyone fought the guards on my behalf & got themselves killed. I haven't found any strange bodies laying about either. I'll try to set some time aside this next week to load up my game and go around and put eyes on each of these people just to double-check. Minotaur (talk) 10:03, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm...that brings up another possibility: can the quest be incorrectly re-activated if it's already been activated. Didn't think to check that. I'll have a look at that later. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:05, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I went around and put eyes on everybody. Dirge is dead, as I'd mentioned. Arnskar Ember-Master, Garthar, Herluin Lothaire, Ravyn Imyan and Vanryth Gatharian have not spawned yet because I haven't done enough TG Special Missions yet this playthrough. All of the others on the list are alive and well, and I haven't attacked any of them. Sorry this info wasn't more helpful. Minotaur (talk) 20:53, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

() Well, I'm at a loss, then. I'd guess it must be somehow reactivating from Dirge being dead, but I have no idea how. I'd forgotten about this issue entirely, but since more than one person has had it happen, I'll add it to the page before I forget again! :) Robin Hood  (talk) 00:31, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

Stub[edit]

Should this page (sort of) be considered a stub? It only has a few sentences for the "Detailed Walkthrough" part. Dragon Guard (talk) 20:02, 27 December 2014 (GMT)

There's a bit of a judgement call as to whether something should be a stub or not. For articles that don't require a lot of detail, they can be small without needing to be marked as a stub, since they're as complete as they're ever going to get. I think this article falls into that category. How much more can be said about getting kicked from the guild and needing to pay to rejoin? Robin Hood  (talk) 21:01, 27 December 2014 (GMT)
There are three important reasons why this should...wait...maybe this shouldn't be a stub...maybe it just needs cleanup. Do stubs require most information, practically all information? Because I've been told in edit summaries that if an article has most information it isn't a stub, please clarify...? I'll start again...there are three important reasons why this article needs a massive cleanup (even though it never asked for one hahaha). One, the "Detailed Walkthrough" demonstrates a lack of formal language. At a first glance, it looks to me like a very hastily constructed walkthrough. Two, it lacks various parts critical to the quest such as how much gold you have to pay. Three...well...this page could do with another image or two, like...one where Dirge is dead with a caption along the lines of: "Don't do this. Killing a fellow guild member will get you expelled from the guild." As for a second image, we could maybe... (if tfc can be taken out as an exception), we could maybe put an image, in 1st person view, of the cursor over an item in the Ragged Flagon area, along with a caption along the lines of: "If you steal anything from the guild you will be expelled." If there are no objections by all means go along with my idea(s). Dragon Guard (talk) 21:30, 27 December 2014 (GMT)
If you feel that you can expand on what's here, by all means, do so. That doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to be marked as a stub. As you said, an article should really only be marked as a stub if the information on it is significantly incomplete. The points you mention are certainly good ones. You might consider the {{Cleanup}} or {{Incomplete}} tags instead if you feel the need to tag it, but we encourage editors to add to an article themselves rather than just tagging something, if they're up to it. Robin Hood  (talk) 18:46, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
On another note do quest pages have to include their dialogue? I know A Knife in the Dark does, but many others don't share the concept. Dragon Guard  (talk) 20:09, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
Quest pages don't need dialogue, and this one doesn't need the images you've requested. As I've said on the request page, your image suggestions aren't necessary, and including the mouse in an image goes against our standards. Additionally, the language used in the detailed walkthrough is fine, and I can think of nothing that needs to be added to this page. —Legoless (talk) 20:54, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
