Unkillable?[edit]

I tried to stalk this NPC around the city and tried to kill him.

His health bar would drop, but when it emptied he'd just buckle over for a brief bit, and then stand back up at full health and continue swinging at me. — Unsigned comment by 68.209.233.8 (talk) at 06:12 on 28 November 2011

He is an essential NPC, when you kill a essential NPC they do that. (Eddie The Head 12:26, 7 December 2011 (UTC))
Why is he essential anyway? No quests are mentioned on his page. Starbucksisevil 22:24, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
This is probably going to sound unlikely, but I think the developers made him intentionally unkillable because he's sort of "part of the environment" or a "prop". The Dunmer are all complaining that they're being treated very bad by the nords, maybe he was intended to represent that group? DelosFandas 19:04, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, representing that group is definetely his function, but it's pretty obvious people will want to kill him for it. I think I'll just console away his essentiality and see if any bugs appear. Starbucksisevil 20:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
He is essential because he is a possible target for Delvin's job The Fishing Job. You steal his Emerald Necklace.— Unsigned comment by 108.35.222.88 (talk) at 18:09 on 7 January 2012
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's radiant, it'll choose most anyone and most any item, that's not what makes him essential. It's probably because he represents the bigotry of the city, and his racism would make you want to murder him. (69.152.133.220 02:17, 9 February 2013 (GMT))

() Can I use him for Boethia's Calling as he becomes your friend? I really hate him and will feel no guilt in killing him AZButcher 18:08, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

If you can get him to follow you and command him to use the pillar, which I don't think you can unfortunately. RIM 18:10, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
It seems impossible (I tried with almost every console command and mod available), to make him as your follower. So then, pity pity pity, you cannot use it for the Boethiah Calling. — Unsigned comment by 93.38.95.114 (talk) at 19:12 on 31 October 2012

Glitch[edit]

I don't know why but Rolff Stone-Fist and Angrenor Once-Honored don't move, they are standing at the same place that I first met them (when they were insulting that dark elf). I've tried to wait days for them to move, but they are always standing there. This makes impossible to complete the miscellaneous quest "Fight! Fight!", because it looks like the option to start a fight with him is only triggered when he goes to Candlehearth Hall (someone told me this, not sure about it). Anyone knows how to fix it?— Unsigned comment by 177.40.209.39 (talk) at 05:30 on 3 January 2012

Try hitting them. This will incur a bounty, but maybe they'll start moving again. Wolok gro-Barok 12:48, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
I have the same glitch. I think that the event which triggered it for me was the fact that Windhelm got invaded by a dragon in the middle of their arguing, and since the scene couldn't finish, they're just stuck there. Aelyth 18:18, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
The same thing happened to me. A dragon invaded Windhelm, I went to kill it, then, when I got back, Rolff Stone-Fist and Angrenor Once-Honored were stuck on the scene. I tried everything to solve this glitch, but nothing worked. Is there a way to make the scene where they start arguing with that dark elf woman happen again?
An anonymous user showed me how to bypass this glitch. In the console type "Startscene 000CD91F". This will trigger their initial conversation and afterwards they will return to whatever they were supposed to be doing. Be warned, there may be some long term side effects. Friendly[edit]

This is probably standard behavior for all "brawl quest" givers, but this guy will say "good to see you again, friend" after you successfully punch his lights out and take his money. It's particularly amusing if you play as an elf. "Thanks for punching my racist face in, bro." Interestingly, once you win the brawl, you will also be able to take items for free from Candlehearth Hall. Probably caused by the inn being marked as his residence, but also amusing, as if everyone there is happy you beat the stuffing out of him. 71.178.115.32 16:00, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Inheritance?[edit]

I killed him by setting his NPC essential value to 0 and an arrow to the head. And one day later when I was in Whiterun the courier brings me an inheritance. Was this a scripted behavior or was it generated because I had 'befriended' him through the brawling quest? — Unsigned comment by Smizzy (talkcontribs) at 12:41 on 30 July 2012

You can inherit money from any NPC in the game.I think it might be because you befriended him.--Skyrimplayer 13:44, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, this is because you are his friend. Vely►t►e 18:00, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Brings a knife to a fistfight[edit]

There is a brief mention on the page of him using a knife to brawl, but I see more than just that:

I've loaded my game about half a dozen times, and every time I get him to low health in the brawl while playing at Master difficulty, he says "You want a real fight eh?" and pulls a knife on me. When the brawl is over, he wanders off without speaking to me, paying the wager, or befriending me. If I have a Familiar out when he pulls his knife on me, the familiar aggros onto Rolff even after the brawl ends. If I set Rolff to non-essential during the brawl, the familiar will kill him shortly after the brawl ends; then a guard will run over, kill the summon, and then wander off. (I receive no bounty this way.)

If I set the game difficulty to Novice instead, none of this happens; he grudgingly admits that I won and pays the 200 septims.

I am, of course, playing with a lot of mods; does anyone else see this behavior? — Unsigned comment by 50.131.243.230 (talk) at 21:14 on 27 May 2013

I did a search for this behaviour, and the only thing in common the few times this has been mentioned, is mods. I can't trace which mod is doing this, it seems intentional though. I have never experienced this on PS3. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:54, 28 May 2013 (GMT)
Happens to me to, can't find what mod it is either. — Unsigned comment by 174.54.13.253 (talk) at 08:08 on 13 July 2013 (UTC)
It might be the same problem that also affects other NPC's as well; mid-brawl they pull weapons and it becomes real combat. FWIW, I'm using this unofficial fix (Brawl Bugs Patch) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24020/? --174.17.37.227 17:28, 21 May 2015 (GMT)

His relation to Galmar[edit]

Is there any direct evidence in-game that he's Galmar's brother (they have a same last name, sure, but more distant relatives can also have it)?87.224.188.167 16:52, 16 January 2014 (GMT)

There is RolffGalmarSiblings to be found in the game data. But I'm not sure there is in-game evidence, those game data relationships sometimes contain contradictionary information too. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:03, 16 January 2014 (GMT)

Angrenor and Rolff bullying Suvaris Atheron[edit]

Any objections about changing the word "Bullying" to "interrogating"? The word "Bullying" seems a tad bit harsh considering the fact that both parties was asking a legitimate question to the female Dunmer. It didn't seem as if Angrenor and Rolff was picking on her, but aggressively interrogating her out of their own suspicion of her and the other Dunmers being an Imperial spies due to lack of contribution to the war effort.

--Raijin (talk) 17:42, 26 June 2014 (GMT)

This is a quite clear example of racial bullying, it's even described as "angry, bullying" in the game data. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:45, 26 June 2014 (GMT)
Yeah, it doesn't seem like interrogating at all to me. They're making baseless assumptions instead of simply asking why the Dunmer don't help the Stormcloaks, and they even threaten to stalk her. —<({Quill-Tail>> 07:02, 27 June 2014 (GMT)

Secret Scroll[edit]

I can’t believe I’m the first to say this, but I’ve been trying to play the Blood on the Ice quest as deeply as possible, and noticed that Rolff Stone Fist holds (when pickpocketing him) a “Secret Scroll”, the same kind found on the body of the victim you find in the graveyard, and like the one you find on the killer in the market. This has to be something related to the quest. Unfortunately I forget at what point in the quest I found this. Thing is, he is essential right? The court wizard being the killer is more likely, since his journal talks of being in the college. But he’s essential too. I found no other way to finish the quest, but it almost looks like the killer sends other people to do his dirty work. I’m intrigued but I’ve found nothing else. Did no one else notice this? — Unsigned comment by 107.77.204.196 (talk) at 01:19 on 11 March 2020

Since there is no page titled Skyrim:Secret Scroll, that must have been added by a mod of yours. See Skyrim:Blood on the Ice for the real solution to that quest. --Ethruvisil (talk) 01:29, 11 March 2020 (GMT)
