Maybe not entirely necessary[edit]

I did not get this quest but was allowed entry instantly. Maybe this has to do with finishing the Kolskeggr Mine quest, where one Ork is affected and says he will talk about you to other Orks, thus putting you in a good light even before you met any Ork Strongholds. --Ulkomaalainen 00:14, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I was able to get entry to Orc strongholds without doing Forgemaster's Fingers by clearing the spiders from the mine at Shor's Stone then talking to the orc there, and on another game by defeating the Silverblood Mercenaries at Karthwasten and talking to the orc there as well.--RumblePen 08:18, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

My Problem & Solution: Getting the quest to activate[edit]

On PS3, I couldn't get the quest to activate when telling a stronghold guard I would go after The Forgemaster's Fingers. The way this was resolved was by going through the dialogue again and saying I wouldn't go after them now, and then redoing the dialogue and saying I would -- this time the quest activated properly.

I also could not get the quest to activate (PC). However, after agreeing to do the favor, I was granted access to the orc camp. I then had a dialogue with another guard who offered the same quest. I tried the refusing first workaround, but this did not succeed for me, with either guard. Jreynolds2 05:31, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
I also found repeated failure to activate quest after saying i would find the fingers even when reloading. I got annoyed with said orc so on yet another reload chose the "i go where i please, orc" dialogue option and then "i don't have time for this" dialogue option, this allowed me to initiate the quest on talking to the orc again without reloading and asking "how can i convoke you to let me in?". Perhaps i had to lower his disposition to me? — Unsigned comment by 94.13.220.182 (talk) at 10:23 on 8 March 2012
I can confirm that one of the fixes works on the current wiki page: "Alternatively, after you go to one stronghold and try to accept the quest, go to another stronghold and try to accept the quest again." I'm playing on the Xbox 360, version 1.9.31.0.8. I could not get the quest to trigger from either guard in Dushnikh Yal, but I traveled to Narzulbur and followed the same dialogue with the first guard I talked to and it popped up under Miscellaneous in one of the nearby radiant dungeons for Narzulbur. It's worth mentioning this, though it might not have caused my glitch: when I first discovered Dushnikh Yal I was fighting a dragon, who died right outside the gate. All the Orcs came running out of the stronghold to gawk after I absorbed the dragon soul, and that's when I asked to get in. Perhaps something about the gawking script interfered with the quest triggering. Then again maybe not. 68.200.221.151 06:00, 12 November 2013 (GMT)

possible bug in Mouhulakh' longhouse[edit]

when I enter to return the the Fingers, one of the other Orcs calls me an intruder and they become hostile. Is it something I am carrying?— Unsigned comment by 190.148.59.97 (talk) at 03:52 on 23 June 2014

It's probably because you're trespassing. Try returning the fingers when the chief is outside the longhouse.Jadebrain (talk) 00:10, 13 November 2014 (GMT)

Bug: asking to become blood-kin after finishing the quest[edit]

If you become blood-kin by completing Forgemaster's Fingers you'll still be able to ask any orc NPC how to become one and all of them will have this inconsistent line forever stuck in their dialogue menu. It can be fixed using console command setstage RelationshipOrcs 100, which removes the inconsistent dialogue. Unofficial Skyrim Patch v2.0.4 also fixes this. Maybe it can be added to the Bugs section? Defqon1 (talk) 17:15, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
