Shortcut?[edit]

I've just done this quest and i stayed up on the platform you spawn into the main room on and started thinning the numbers with a bow while sneaking. I took out 2 necromancers below me and 2 dragur. Then started taking pot shots at someone walking around on the platform at the same level but opposite me. Not sure whats just happened but everyone in the place became a red blip on my map, then 10 seconds later there all gone, the swirling mist goes and i get quest complete dialogue and to return to the quest giver. Not sure if this is repeatable but worth a try maybe. I'm actually considering loading my last save because it was a bit too easy. (Killerchronic 20:10, 24 November 2011 (UTC))

- Slight update, there were 2 necromancers left and the dragur lord, got up top and the 3 necromancers that should of been there were just piles of dust in the spot where they would of been channeling. Only thing i can think of that possibly did it was that i fired some arrows into what they were summoning.
Also at level 33 i got 1000 gold, the same at level 34 (tested both as i missed that i had a levelup available.

The quest completes once you kill the "Ritual Master", or something similar to that. As for why everything else was "gone" that's strange, I had to kill about 7 Necromancers, 2 Necromages, a few Restless and normal Draugr, a Draugr deathlord and a Draugr Scourge from memory, same level as you. 124.178.142.112 04:01, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I have managed to get the cave cleared without ever going up to the ritual tower. I think that there's a faction mismatch between the Ritual Master and some of the draugr in the cave, it looked like there was some in-fighting after my potshots caused the NPCs to converge on one location (from investigating the noise). Playing on Xbox, no way to verify though. 70.112.232.71 05:52, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Came here to check on this, had the same thing happen to me. The last 4-5 dudes around the top of the Ritual circle took each other out for some reason while I was still way down below, finishing the quest. Just wanted to make sure my game wasn't getting hosed again... Perko 07:10, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Same happens with shooting some fireballs from the cave balcony to the top of the tower - or probably any AOE Spell. Beeing so far away, they don't even spot you at 50 sneak Garak 23:41, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I've done this several times. Shooting an arrow towards the ritual sets everything hostile. The necromancers just stand there while a dragur proceeds to kill them all. --50.70.145.198 16:31, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

Caption[edit]

I just want to say that the caption on that picture made my day. It's more or less what I thought when I entered the room. --24.143.54.221 22:59, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

It's been listed on the main page already, but is there any way to work around it on the PS3 or Xbox versions of the game? I wanna punch the ugly prick in the head because I waited like 3 hours last night for him to go and start the dialogue with the Jarl. I've been to the Winking Skeever, and the guy there already told me of the rumour, and I have a misc quest objective "Head to the Solitude Court", the quest marker points to Falk Firebeard. Kind of pissed there's no way for me to get the stupid house now because of this bug. 120.145.27.105 04:25, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Same guy as above post here, I finished the Main Quest and returned here and it played out like normal. I think it may have something to do with Elisif the Fair being one of the attendants of the SPOILER peace conference held at High Hrothgar between the Stormcloaks and Imperial Legion. Perhaps the bug is only present during that portion of the main quest and not before, or after it? 120.145.27.105 16:58, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
If the dialogue does not commence, try going through all of Falk's dialogue options. If you then speak with the Jarl, there may be an option to ask about Falk dealing with a cave, and then speak to Falk again. There should be an additional dialogue option about the cave now. I'm not sure if this is a solution for the same bug you were having, but it solved my problem. There was a quest arrow above Falk's head, there were no remaining dialogue options, and nobody would talk to the Jarl. It seems as if that was because the conversation had already happened and I had simply missed it. — Unsigned comment by 24.186.193.115 (talk) at 17:59 on 24 February 2012
Playing Special Edition on PS4, I had started the Bard's College quest Tending the Flame. Had the bug trigger. Finishing that quest released the quest to start. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 21:02, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Bug finally resolved?[edit]

The bug in which the initial dialogue necessary to begin the quest may be fixed by completely finishing Skyrim's main story line. After the initial failure of the quest to begin, I continued to check back in periodically. In between each attempt, I continued to further other quest lines. After completing the main quest, I returned and the dialog began without any further hitches. — Unsigned comment by 184.15.128.212 (talk) at 02:18 on 18 December 2011

- bugged for me, no matter what. started fights, continued quest lines, finished main quest. did everything possible except restart the whole game.
this is an inexcusable bug of many. i am selling my copy of skyrim unfortunately. this is ridiculous. — Unsigned comment by 69.152.36.231 (talk) at 07:45 on 5 January 2012

The pit os sealed????[edit]

I just played the game again and started this task. When i got to the cave a group of bandits were there attacking the necromancers. I killed those who survived and wen to fave the Drauger that is in the room with the pit. I killed it and wanted to jump in, however, there is something looking like brigs covered in snow sealing the pit and preventing me from jumping in..... Is there a way around this??--86.146.123.187 01:27, 21 December 2012 (GMT)

I'm also having this problem. The pit is always sealed when I go to get this quest dealt with. Assistance would be appreciated.74.107.97.226 03:13, 22 December 2013 (GMT)

Sybille offering Vampire side job[edit]

I just wanted to mention that though it says in the article that you can get a favor request from Sybille AFTER completion of this quest (her disposition will be higher then) I got the job before starting this quest by investing in her store. Thought the wording might be modified a little to reflect that it is not, in fact, necessary to complete this one in order to do her favor. --Scribbles (Crayolamanic) (talk) 11:40, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Moved from the article[edit]

After the quest stages the following text was found:

However, when entering the cave but not discovering the summoners (by not jumping down the hole in the ground), and reporting that the bandits have just been killed, the quest stage of 83 is set (this may have had to do with the ongoing Stormcloak/Imperial fight). Completing the fight will permit using the setstage ms06start 50 to resume the quest again. All quest stages shown as having been active upon completion include 5, 10, 15, 50, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 83, 90, 100, and 250.

together with a verification request:

Is this accurate? Is console required to get any/all of this?

If this is related to a bug it should go to the bugs section. But it is not clear to me what this is about. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:55, 31 December 2013 (GMT)

weird bug[edit]

I don't know if this bug is related to the quest or not, but after finishing the quest, and leaving the cave I noticed two glowing blue dots just under my eyes. I think I've attached a link to the picture. If not, let me know, and I'll try again. http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/572273303453308313/99328473D3BA709FE643047D06B39C8BA24B649E/1024x640.resizedimage KaidaThyme (talk) 16:04, 24 July 2014 (GMT)

Do you have any mods active? I've never seen anything like that. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 12:28, 25 July 2014 (GMT)
No, none at all, from anyone. Unless you count Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire. KaidaThyme (talk) 12:41, 25 July 2014 (GMT)
I just found a bug listed on the Aura Whisper shout page that there is a bug that causes the player to get stuck with Draugr eyes after using the shout. I use that shout a lot. Could this be that bug? KaidaThyme (talk) 23:44, 4 October 2014 (GMT)
It just happened again! Same quest! How do I make these blue eyes go away? KaidaThyme (talk) 20:54, 10 October 2014 (GMT)

Incorrect Quest Stage for Bug[edit]

The main page has the state necessary to initiate the scene as 15 but I have triggered it by setting the stage to 5. I'll take a look at the quest in the CK later but it seems more likely that 15 was meant to occur after the scene espeically given the description of that stage. Stage 0 teleports the player to right in front of the guard at the base of the stairs, interstingly enough. Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 17:21, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Minor scene bug[edit]

A minor scene bug in my playthrough caused Elisif to skip her first line when replying to Varnius.

This is caused by MS06StartAppealForHelpScene, Phase 7, Action 18, having a condition whereby Elisif will only say the line if Quest DA02 (Boethiah's Calling) is under Stage 50.

So essentially, Elisif will only say her first line if Boethiah's Calling is not completed. Probably related to cut content?

Deleting the condition and saving/loading the change as a new ESP using the CK resolved this minor bug. Not sure if any patches already do this. Cheers. -Deltahost (talk) 10:47, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

Finishing the War First[edit]

Does the introductory scene still happen the same way if you've won the war for the Stormcloaks before entering the Blue Palace (and therefore Elisif should have no legions to send)? -- Zzedar (talk) 15:34, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

  • The opening conversation between Varnius and Elisif will not change even if not witnessed until after the Stormcloaks have taken Solitude. Elisif will still mention Captain Aldis, who would have already disappeared from the game, and Sybille Stentor will still claim that Dragon Bridge is under Imperial control. The name of The Winking Skeever's bard[edit]

Her name is Lisette, not the one that is listed. Also the reference for her to start the quest and/or be related to it are nowhere to be found in her personal page. The correct NPC it's the one here, where no reference to the quest exists: Skyrim:Lisette

I have no idea how to change the page, so please, someone that has idea do it. Right now the quest page incorrectly points to a market vendor for start it. — Unsigned comment by 85.48.21.213 (talk) at 01:25 on 16 July 2019

Thanks. We don't list rumor givers as quests starters unless its the only way to start the quest, but they do get mentioned here. PS, the links for innkeeper and bard already pointed to the correct page, the attempted clarification was doubly-bad. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:13, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
