Mortar and Pestle Locked Up[edit]

In my game, The Mortar and Pestle is always locked up. If I get inside, Frida tells me that I'm trespassing.

I'm posting this here to confirm that this is a bug that affects more than just me before updating the main page.

Yes, I have this issue too. This is not the only store which does this to me either. (174.97.194.85 00:43, 28 November 2011 (UTC))
I'm also having this issue. I Googled it and it seems to be everybody (on console at least...) — Unsigned comment by Truefallendark (talkcontribs) at 00:42 on 29 November 2011
The store, like at least some others, may be locked during normal business hours. I've been able to solve this issue at several merchants by fast travelling away and returning to the town/city. If the shop is unlocked during abnormal hours, do not go in (you will be trespassing). So far, I have always been able to resolve it by fast travelling away and back. Sometimes I have had to try doing this to/from several locations before shop hours are set correctly (around 8am-8pm). Fast traveling does not seem to fix it with the latest (1.3) patch. I traveled to every hold in Skyrim and back and it doesn't fix the issue; note: I reloaded in between each fast travel attempt. Perhaps its more broken now in 1.3 than it was in previous patches or possibly some merchants have some days off where they just aren't open? though opening in the middle of the night does appear to be a bug. If you're friends with the merchant they automatically forgive the trespass, give you gold and also trade with you. I assume you can just lockpick their stores if you are already friends. 75.80.97.155 06:33, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Hmm... That's interesting. Before patch, I found this situation first at Acacia's Cauldron in Whiterun, I tried a lot of things and I guessed that it was the fast travelling that got things back to normal. Not sure, though. It happened again some time later at the Mortar and Pestle. That time, I traveled away and back once and things were back to normal. I've been playing on 1.3 for a few days now, and haven't encountered it again. If I see anything more about it, I'll come back and write here. — Unsigned comment by Jreynolds2 (talkcontribs)

mortar pestle is still locked[edit]

im playing on 1.4 and its locked I don't know why but I think it has somthing to do with the update Bethesda please fix it. — Unsigned comment by 72.10.31.185 (talk) at 23:48 on 9 March 2012

This appears to be a bug that first occurred at least several patches ago, and apparently continues, though it must be somewhat rare. I cannot find anything about it, even after a moderately comprehensive online search, except one mention on another site of it occurring (without any potential solution offered).
At the risk of recommending the obvious: 1) can you reload any earlier saved games and see if you still have the problem? I think it would be useful to know, even if you decide against reverting to an earlier saved game; 2) fast-travelling out of the city and back to it, from several different areas of the map; 3) Try waiting for long periods. This can mean patiently and repeatedly waiting for the maximum amount of time. It has been suggested that this can resolve some problems with the game, because some data stored about "world information" can "catch up"; on the downside, some such data can also be "lost", for example, some NPCs and factions attitudes toward you can be "forgotten", etc. This was proposed as a sort of "general solution" to many problems with the game by an executive at Bethesda some time ago, when it first became apparent that there were significant problems with the game, especially on the PS3; 4) try combinations of fast-travelling and waiting. In my own experience, I was just about ready to give up on resolving this, and then suddenly, everything was back to normal and has been so for a long time now. I am not sure how or why it resolved for me, but I did all of the above things so they are my best guesses at possible resolutions. Are you playing on a PC? --JRTalk E-mail 04:25, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
I've had this happen lots of times with different characters for arcadias cauldron. I broke in at the back door and she was working normally, ie no trespassing. I do this every time now and it has always worked. Don't know about dawnstar if there is a second door. The Silencer 03:33, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
By "breaking in", do you mean you picked the lock or used a console command to open the door during normal business hours? Could you also do the same thing at the front door? As I think has been written, if a merchant's disposition toward you is sufficiently favorable, "breaking in" is no problem. --JRTalk E-mail 10:43, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I picked the locked (PS3), but I think I have always completed salt for arcadia, making her nice to me. I'll try front door without friendlyness soon. The Silencer 14:58, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
How about front door with friendliness? Does the door matter? Obviously, I have a strange obsession with this issue. I guess because I struggled with it for so long when I first encountered it; because others are reporting it; and because there is little info out there on solutions or workarounds. Thanks. --JRTalk E-mail 02:38, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

() I am on PS3, its easy enough to start a new game where she is neutral, but the shop refuses to lock now, except between 8pm&8am. Youll need a PC user who can force the conditions needed, but I don't know if that would even work for this is a bug. The Silencer 18:43, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

they missed the door flags at package start and package change (dawnstarapothecaryservicespackage8x12)--Lampuiho 05:52, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Disposition[edit]

I did the Ring of Pure Mixtures quest, yet it seems that I can take only the most minor items from the store - I can't, for example, harvest the garlic braids, etc, hanging from the roof, although I can in most other stores where I have befriended the owner. Likewise, most containers are still marked "Steal from" rather than "Take from". Is there more to do to raise her disposition towards me, or are those items incorrectly flagged, or what? 203.206.100.132 16:31, 27 May 2014 (GMT)
