Location[edit]

I noticed that when you use this template, it is smart enough to omit the current page from the location. For instance, if I am using an NPC whose location is "[[Morrowind:Cityname|Cityname]], housename" in a table on the actual Cityname page, then their location column will be rendered as "housename". But that trick does not work on a "People in Cityname" page. Is there any way of modifying this template so that trick works on a "People in" page too? --Brf 18:25, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to give up on the whole location thing. I tried many, many hacks and they just don't work because there are too many variations. For the moment, use skipLocation=1 and add on the location at the end after the template - like }}|| Outside. rpeh •TCE 18:38, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Cool. I figured it might be a little too much trouble to fix the template. Adding the location manually like that should work better for NPCs that appear on multiple pages, too. --Brf 18:44, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
At some point I'm going to have another crack at it, but right now it's more trouble than it's worth. rpeh •TCE 18:48, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Dunno if it'll help, but since you're pretty handy with Regex, if you haven't noticed it, we have RegexFunctions installed. Depending what all patterns you need to match, you might be able to use {{#rreplace}} to good advantage here. Robin Hoodtalk 23:28, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

() I noticed that a lot of the NPCs which have their own page use the "house=" parameter, rather than "loc=". This NPC data template does not look there when building the location for the table row. --Brf 21:57, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah... as I say, for now let's skip that param and do it manually. The idea was that we could use the #listsaved function to auto-generate a lot of these pages, but since the #listsaved function doesn't work, there's no point. Let's just KISS for now. rpeh •TCE 23:38, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Pages Missing Data (?)[edit]

I've noticed that this template sometimes does not "see" certain NPC details, in this example, Magicka.

Name Gender Race Class Faction Level Health Magicka Alarm Fight
Mivanu Andrelo Female Dark Elf Savant House Redoran Lawman(Lawman) 12 89 142 0 30
Nilos Talds Male Dark Elf Warrior House Redoran Hireling(Hireling) 14 161 100 100 30

I thought it might be due to the fact that these are Non-Relevant NPCs but it appears to be not the case for the following:

Name Gender Race Class Faction Level Health Magicka Alarm Fight
Vendrela Aravel Female Dark Elf Commoner 6 69 92 90 30
Veresa Salvani Female Dark Elf Commoner 7 76 94 90 30

Oh, I think I just saw it now, was it because of the faction? Hmmmn... how can I fill out the magicka column for the first two? Salamangkero (talk) 07:02, 18 November 2012 (GMT)

Editing the non-relevant NPCs is a bit tricky. In the search box, type in "Morrowind:Mivanu Andrelo", for example. This will redirect you to People in Ald'ruhn. Then, at the top of that page, just under the main title bar, you'll see "(Redirected from Morrowind:Mivanu Andrelo)". Click on the link for Mivanu Andrelo there, and you'll be taken to his actual page rather than being redirected. Once you're there, you can click "Edit" and you'll see the template that controls his data. Add a |magicka= parameter to that page, along with the value, and you should be good to go. You can see that there already is such an entry for Vendrela Aravel which is why it shows up there, but not one for Mivanu Andrelo, which is why it doesn't. Did I do it right? I, uh... I filled out the magicka field of the above NPCs (Mivanu Andrelo and Nilos Talds) but now the first table looks... screwed up. Salamangkero (talk) 07:26, 19 November 2012 (GMT)
Sorry, false alarm. I only had to re-edit this page/section and the correct rows appeared. It appears any modifications to the NPC page(s), though, affects all other pages that use this template. Salamangkero (talk) 07:33, 19 November 2012 (GMT)
Yeah, sometimes it takes an extra edit or purging the page to get the data to show up right. Everything looks good to me, though I don't currently have Morrowind installed to verify the actual values. Robin Hoodtalk 07:51, 19 November 2012 (GMT)
