Oblivion:Custom Classes

Okay, seriously, there's by my caluclations 1,279,935,820,800 possible combinations of skills, attributes, birthsign, and specialty out there. Do we really need to cover every single one? This page may have a lot of edits, but they're mostly poor quality, and this info if anything belongs on User pages, not as an encyclopedic article. Just because a page is popular doesn't mean it deserves to exist. There is pretty much no useful information on this page. It's just a big gallery of "look how cool my character is", many of the entries being nearly identical, just with a different name. There's simply no benefit to having this page on the site, no matter how many people edit it and add their super-cool idea. --TheRealLurlock Talk 19:02, 14 August 2007 (EDT)

  • Delete: I only make it 126,977,760 combinations but then it's been a long time since I had to calculate that sort of thing. We've not managed to come up with a better way of dealing with this page and I think it's time to kill it. There's already good information on how to create a custom class on at least two other pages (Oblivion:Classes and Oblivion:Character_Creation so there's no need for this page at all. It's dragging the quality of the site down. --RpehTalk 05:08, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • (For the record: 21x20x19x18x17x16x15 for the skills, x8x7 for the attributes, x13 for birthsign, x3 for specialization. I suppose you could also multiply it by x10 for race and x2 for gender if you really wanted to cover all options.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:23, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • I think that's permutations, but the order in which you pick the skills and attributes doesn't matter. I think the calculation is 21C14 x 8C2 x 3 x 13 => (21! / 14! x (21-14)!) x (8! / 2! x (8-2)!) x 3 x 13 => 116280 x 28 x 3 x 13 = 126977760. See the Wikipedia page on NCR for more information. --RpehTalk 02:42, 18 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Delete: Not only is there good information on creating a custom class on other pages here, there are also plenty of other sites that give advice and examples. If anybody wants to advertise their particular favourite custom class on this site, they should add it to their user page. --Gaebrial 05:55, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Delete: I concur; popularity is not a good indicator of relevancy. Many of the so called suggestions are merely clones of one another. Would this be the first stage of a 'clean up' sort of thing around the site? There are plenty of other virtually un-moderated and equally useless pages such as useful enchantments, useful spells, (both of which, ironically, are not actually very useful) roleplaying, gripes and glitches. — Unsigned comment by Saruuk (talkcontribs)
  • The difference here is that useful enchantments, useful spells have the potential to have useful information on them, stuff you wouldn't necessarily figure out on your own. Like for example, how many people would've come up with the Breach1/Breach2 combo on their own without this page? If we restricted those pages to just non-obvious tricks like that, they'd be much more useful. Custom Classes, on the other hand, is completely obvious. There's no "hidden" tricks here involving custom classes. It's just a matter of which Skills, Attributes, Birthsigns, and specializations you want to use, all of which are more than adequately covered on existing pages. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:23, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Delete: This page has too much opinion. The whole point of the Custom Class option being added to the game is for players to have independent choices that suit their opinion best- this page is trying to make people follow other peoples opinions. It is also huge and messy- It would take AGES to sort out. Although i disagree with the supporter above me in some matters (I think useful enchantments and useful spells are great pages, except a little messy) I do think that this page should be disposed of.--Willyhead 08:31, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Delete: It's time for Custom Classes to go. If people want to put their ideas on their userpages, that's great, but it's a waste of time to have to keep dealing with this mess. --Eshe 13:56, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
  • Keep: I don't see why this page should go, it's out the way, a nice list, and helps others that are stuck for what to do, Imean, we have a list of things to role play, why not a list tohelp people pick what they want. And also, why flush alot of uses work away, it's doing no harm.--sixth308
  • Delete: This page should be cleaned up, if not deleted completely. Maybe have 3 or 4 for stealth, magic, and warrior and have that be it.--Jyggalag
    • Consensus: Delete. Given the person who gave the one "Keep" vote has just now blanked the page, I think that means this is pretty much unanimous. (6-1) 10:16, 3 September 2007 (EDT)
