Page editing etiquette[edit]

Hey all, relatively new here, I only started visiting the site about two months after Skyrim came out, and it's the only site I'll use for it now, as I've found it amazingly useful. I'm not a registered user, but I would like to contribute whatever I can, even if it's just reporting new glitches about the game. But before I haul off and go editing pages left and right, I'd like to know what kind of etiquette is involved for my type of situation. For example, if I found a bug in the PS3 version which prevents Farkas from giving dialogue options for work to do, making it impossible to start his Purity quest. What would you consider to be the most appropriate thing for an unregistered user to do in such a scenario? Is there a guideline for it? If not, should there be? Is it best to just leave it be for a registered professional and report it to them? — Unsigned comment by 216.186.185.107 (talk) at 15:10 on 7 April 2013

Our basic policy on editing is to "be bold" (i.e. don't be afraid of editing). In terms of bugs, they are generally best placed on the talk page of the article they apply to, in order for someone to confirm that it is not confined to your disc/save file (i.e. a one-off bug). There is a Bug template that can be used to make a bug as unconfirmed ({{Bug|This is a bug|vn=1}}) if you believe that it is not confined to a single disc/save, that puts it in a category of reported bugs that need checking. Registered users have no more right to be right than unregistered users in terms of editing pages. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 15:27, 7 April 2013 (GMT)
In addition, if you have questions you'd like a wiki regular to answer, you can ask a mentor or the people on our chat channel.
All editors are treated the same here, whether anonymous or registered. We do suggest that, if you plan to edit a lot, you create an account so we know who you are (since IP addresses change), but it isn't required by any means. As Silencer said, be bold when editing--other wiki users can fix up any mistakes you make. Vely►t►e 16:20, 7 April 2013 (GMT)
