Tumblr[edit]

Hey, Dave. The UESP's tumblr's been neglected since October. May I have that added to my list of networking pages that I can manage, so that I can share our Featured Articles and Images, news, and all that jazz like I do on Twitter and Facebook? My email for Tumblr, so that you can invite me onto the blog, is ericsnowmane@gmail.com.

Also, I noticed Alarra has a UESP domain for her wiki-related e-mails, and I am jealous. What are the requirements for one of those, do I satisfy them, and may I have one too? Please and thank you on both requests. -damon  talkcontribs 05:45, 22 January 2015 (GMT)

You certainly can have a UESP e-mail if you wish. I assume that "damon@uesp.net" would be fine? I'll forward you the Tumblr info today. -- Daveh (talk) 12:22, 22 January 2015 (GMT)
Some of the other moderators on the forum had also offered to help pick up the various social media pages; I believe AKB has sent a message about this to you in the past, Dave. What should they do if they wish to gain access? - Alarra (talk) 09:03, 22 January 2015 (GMT)
Simply e-mail me their request would be fine. -- Daveh (talk) 12:22, 22 January 2015 (GMT)
Both emails received. Thanks again, Dave. -damon  talkcontribs 04:25, 25 January 2015 (GMT)

Sent You An Email[edit]

Hey Dave, I sent you an email a bit ago and didn't get a reply. Just wanted to let you know that I sent it, since it might be in your Spam folder (I hope not!) ~ Ad intellige (talk) 19:21, 9 February 2015 (GMT)

I did reply to your e-mail and have been busy with other things. I may get to it this week if time permits. -- Daveh (talk) 20:49, 10 February 2015 (GMT)

HotnBOThered Temporary Admin Permissions[edit]

Per this discussion, can you temporarily give HotnBOThered admin permissions, please.

Also, while I can access all of our content servers for reading, I no longer seem to have write permissions on them. Robin Hood  (talk) 16:54, 26 February 2015 (GMT)

Admin permissions updated and I fixed your permissions on content1/2/3 (I forgot to add users to the uespadmin group). -- Daveh (talk) 13:26, 27 February 2015 (GMT)
The bot is done now, you can remove its Admin rights again whenever you have a moment. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 17:52, 27 February 2015 (GMT)

Justice and Champion Systems Images Update[edit]

Hey Dave! Lots of new images and text from Update 6; loading screens, maps, UI elements, icons, etc. Please and thank you!

Also there are some bugs with UespLog (more than just the API version update) that have come about as a result of the patch.

Thanks again! --Enodoc (talk) 13:49, 7 March 2015 (GMT)

Thanks for the reminder...will be working on both tomorrow. -- Daveh (talk) 01:29, 9 March 2015 (GMT)
Finished the exporting and processing all of the files and images.
Will be updating our ESO map with the new/updated maps in the next few days as well as working on the plugin. -- Daveh (talk) 17:34, 10 March 2015 (GMT)

Sent You An Email[edit]

Hi Dave!

Let me begin first by saying how much of an honour it is to "speak" with you...

I have followed your career on and off since I was a wee lass who loaded her first copy of Daggerfall years ago, and found your tools to mod it and lessen the CTD's D-fall was/is (in)famous! I even tried to contact you years ago, when Andel Crodo's Daggerfall Gallery on ~m0use.net (I think that's correct) was in its waning days, to thank you for making a buggy, unplayable game a bit more playable! You were/are my Daggerfall hero! **FANGURL MOMENT**

May I ask you please check your email? Tiebrakre (talk) 09:26, 28 March 2015 (GMT)

Thanks! I got your email and will be replying shortly. -- Daveh (talk) 15:21, 28 March 2015 (GMT)
Thank you for the quick reply, Dave! Sent reply with UESP proposal to the issue at hand. -- Tiebrakre (talk) 09:23, 29 March 2015 (GMT)

ESO Item Link[edit]

Hey Dave, I was wondering if it would be possible to configure <esoitemlink> to take inttype, intlevel and link inputs in addition to itemid, level and quality. The changes to provisioning recipes and ingredients in Update 6 are such that the items use the same id, but a different internal subtype. For example, the "Ash-Slake Ale Recipe", itemid=45977, inttype=1, was changed to "Rye-in-Your-Eye Recipe", which also has itemid=45977, but has inttype=3. Once the database is updated with the new items, the only way to link to the new versions of the recipes will be by using inttype or the full item link, otherwise it seems it will link to the old version. Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 20:45, 6 April 2015 (GMT)

Yup, that should be no problem. That reminds me I'll have to do another item dump from the game which will take a while but should be mostly automatic. -- Daveh (talk) 21:13, 6 April 2015 (GMT)
Done! As you might guess the parameters are intlevel, inttype, and link. I've also created basic documentation for the item link popup format with examples if you need them. Basic tests show it working but if you run into issues just let me know. You may need to do a force-reload on the site to get the link JavaScript updated. -- Daveh (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2015 (GMT)
That's great, thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 16:47, 9 April 2015 (GMT)

() Hi again, I was just wondering if you'd made any progress with updating the itemlink database with the new items from Update 6. Also, would it be possible to add a link to ESO Browsing Mined Items from ESO Log Viewer? Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 09:48, 22 May 2015 (GMT)

If you're tinkering with esoitem, there's also a slight typo at the bottom of the page: "This content is made available the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP)." —Legoless (talk) 11:26, 22 May 2015 (GMT)
Thanks...its at the top of my list after the wiki upgrade today. -- Daveh (talk) 11:36, 22 May 2015 (GMT)

() Hey Daveh, long time no see. I've been making a few pages and ran into a bug that I suspect is on your end at esoitem.uesp.net. Compare the following links:

The first one is correct, but the second one is not. By the looks of it, this only shows the wrong item at level V14 (64) and quality 4. If I change the quality or level, it shows the correct item. Any idea what's going on? • JAT 18:51, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Strange...the data for the item looks fine so it is either a parsing error on my part or the item is bugged in the game. Once the servers are back up I can check the item data in-game and see. -- Daveh (talk) 12:08, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Email[edit]

Sent you one. :) —Legoless (talk) 18:54, 28 April 2015 (GMT)

Got it, thanks for the reminder. -- Daveh (talk) 18:21, 29 April 2015 (GMT)

Maximum upload size[edit]

As a result of this discussion, I discovered that our maximum upload size is currently limited by PHP instead of by MediaWiki. If there's no specific reason to do so (e.g., the forums or blog), whenever we next upgrade, can we use the MediaWiki setting for it instead? It's more customizable, a fact we might actually want to take advantage of to limit IP uploading. There's no particular hurry, so the next upgrade makes the most sense to me as the time to do it. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:03, 4 May 2015 (GMT)

Yup, no problem. -- Daveh (talk) 19:04, 4 May 2015 (GMT)

Sent you an email[edit]

Sent you one a couple days ago, regarding me uploading images to the forum. ~ Alarra (talk) 22:52, 4 May 2015 (GMT)

ESO map[edit]

Hey Daveh! It seems the Stonetooth Fortress map is erroneously listed under "Glenumbra" world, instead of being a part of the "Betnikh" world, and it cannot be fixed without your help. Could you take a look please? Thanks!  ~Shuryard (talk) 14:48, 13 May 2015 (GMT)

Thanks for the note, will fix shortly. -- Daveh (talk) 14:49, 13 May 2015 (GMT)

Search Help[edit]

I've received a notice that the article General:Elder Scrolls Off the Record does not appear in search results, ever. I've tried to get it to show up myself, and it's true, it just will not appear as a search option. It won't appear as either an automatic suggestion, or in the search results. I assume that our search function only adds links occasionally, not instantly, but how long should it normally take? Is there a way for this to be fixed? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:56, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

This is related to the issue with search we've been having with the Online namespace. I've been trying to fix it but nothing has worked so far. I'll continue to work on it and hopefully I'll figure something out soon. Thanks! -- Daveh (talk) 19:01, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

ESO Item Database[edit]

Hey Dave, I was having a look through the item database and I see there are 4 "Unknown" item types. 54, 56 and 57 are unnamed in-game, but they basically correspond to "Fish", "Contraband" and "Crown Store" respectively. Type 55 is named in-game as "Crown Repair". I was also wondering if there is any way to mine the items that are stored in Collections, like pets, mounts and upgrades. They have tooltip popups and icons in the same manner as the inventory items, but I don't know if they have Item Links in the same way. There's also the Quest Items that only appear in the inventory during their respective quests. Finally, I was wondering whether it would be possible to add a direct link to http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewMinedItems.php in the text at the top of http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewlog.php, since that's the more common landing point. Thanks! -- Enodoc (talk) 10:47, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the info and suggestions! The collectible items used to be regular items but they seemed to have removed them after changing them to a separate system. Even the old costumes which are now collectibles don't seem to be valid in the game anymore, but I'll double-check to make sure my item mining code works correctly to identify "bad" items. The quest items should be in there somewhere but I'd have to look for them. I should be updating the item database next week hopefully and will look into things then. -- Daveh (talk) 12:27, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
I made the easy changes. It seems they did something to the quest items at some point as their format is different than the normal item link: |H1:quest_item:4053|h|h for example is a Rag Doll. I'll have to modify uespLog to recognize these style of links and change the mining code as well. It will get done eventually but I still have a bunch of Orsinium related things to do. -- Daveh (talk) 15:33, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

UESP Translation to Portuguese Project[edit]

Hi.

I recently created a topic in the UESP forums, asking if i could translate the Wiki. The admnistrator Legoless suggested that i should talk with you about that. I was thinking about make a mirror site of the UESP, translated to portuguese, like in wikipedia. Do you think that is possible? I would love if i could help the brazilian and portuguese fans of Elder Scrolls.

Thank You. — Unsigned comment by Jörmungandr (talkcontribs) at 20:03 on 19 November 2015

Translations of the site are fine so long as you keep the content under the BY-SA 2.5 license and attribute its source (see Copyright_and_Ownership). -- Daveh (talk) 14:44, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, i know. But what i really want to do is creating a second session on the wiki, in portuguese, like in wikipedia: https://www.wikipedia.org/
Do you think that's possible? Jörmungandr (talk) 18:11, 20 November 2015 (UTC)Jörmungandr

Email problem - emails not arriving[edit]

Hi Dave, we've been seeing an issue on the forum - which might be affecting the wiki as well - where emails (registration confirmation, "you have a PM/new reply on the thread you're following", the Email a User button, etc) are not arriving for a lot of users. I think Musicman had messaged you about this some time ago. It mainly seems to be affecting Hotmail users, like the issues we had about a year ago. I wonder if it's affecting the wiki too: a user messaged the UESP Facebook page saying they never received the password reset email, and they have Hotmail. Could you look into that? It's definitely a problem when it's keeping some users from registering and locking others out of their accounts. ~ Alarra (talk) 15:28, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

I made some changes earlier this week that "should" have fixed things but I haven't been able to test it fully. Can I get some users with Hotmail addresses that I can try sending some e-mails to for testing? -- Daveh (talk) 16:24, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
I also just made one more change which "should" help things but will be up to 24 hours to take effect. Once I get some guinea pigs I'll test it out on the weekend or next week. -- Daveh (talk) 16:51, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
So, for reference there seems to be 3 things going on:
  1. Missing reverse DNS entries for the UESP servers.
  2. Missing SPF entries for the domain.
  3. Hotmail is blocking mail being sent from the UESP servers.
1 & 2 are easy fixes and have been done. 3 is trickier as it out of our hands other than submitting requests to Hotmail to unban our servers. It may be they blocked us for missing 1 & 2 previously, or we may have been caught up in a wider block by someone else. For example, our content1 IP is 67.205.78.100 but 67.205.78.99 and 67.205.78.101 are different sites and if they "misbehave" Hotmail might just block the whole class C address block including us.
I'll monitor the e-mail logs over the next few days and see how many, if any, are still blocked. -- Daveh (talk) 17:27, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! You can use me as a guinea pig; I have a Hotmail account. I can check on the forum too and see if anyone else is willing. ~ Alarra (talk) 18:00, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
The test one worked! Thanks, Dave! :) ~ Alarra (talk) 22:29, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

E-Mail sent[edit]

Sent you one, to discuss my project, if you don't mind. --Jörmungandr (talk) 16:37, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

E-Mail sent[edit]

Sent you one more. I only want your permission to create the UESP-BR, all by myself. With all the credits, obviously. Jörmungandr (talk) 23:58, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Like I said in the last e-mail, we don't have the resources to host the translation wiki ourselves. If you wish to take on the task you can so long as you abide by our Copyright_and_Ownership. Essentially it involves attribution of the translated article to the UESP and keeping the content under the by-sa 2.5 license. -- Daveh (talk) 16:45, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, i understand it, i can use the content under the license, but can i use the name UESP, the logo, the theme, all these kind of stuff? And can you send it to me? Anyway, really thanks mate, i'm really happy to know that is possible. Jörmungandr (talk) 08:55, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for not getting back to you. We'll be having a discussion on the Administrator_Noticeboard about translation projects like this and how to handle them. Hopefully we'll be able to decide something to get you started in the new year. -- Daveh (talk) 14:40, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

uespLog on ESOUI?[edit]

Hey Dave, I see you've uploaded uespLog at the Nexus, and was wondering if you were considering uploading it at ESOUI as well. That seems to be the primary location for ESO add-ons, and there's already a following for EsoExtractData over there despite that not actually being available outside of UESP. On that note, perhaps there would be a case for uploading "EED" (as they call it) at ESOUI as well. --Enodoc (talk) 00:51, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Ah yes, good idea on both counts. Not sure how I overlooked that. -- Daveh (talk) 01:07, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
