Potions & Ingredients[edit]

Potions and their Ingredients are inseperable sides of Alchemy, and I think that heavy cross-linking between them would be a good thing. This requires that each ingredient and each potion get their own seperate page, instead of just the current 'list pages' (side note: why is there no Morrowind:Potions page?).

Those pages could contain (this list is just a brainstorm):

Potions

  • Description of effect
  • List of places/NPCs it can be obtained from (I realize the Cheap Restore Health list would be long)
  • List of Ingredients that can be used to create it
  • Perhaps additional info on creation, like how skill influences the strength of the effect.

Ingredients

  • A picture of the flower, creature or whatever (yes, I like a bit of useful eye-candy)
  • Description of effects (to some extent that's also the potions it can be used to create, though that doesn't include multi-purpose potions. Not sure if those have any place in the wiki, unless they already exist in the game)
  • Where to find the ingredient (Game and Area)

I just wanted to point out that heavy cross-linking does not require that every ingredient and potion have its own page. See, for example, Ingredients and Alchemy Effects, which are fully cross-linked. Those two pages use specialized templates to accomplish the links; there is also a non-specialized Template:Linkable Entry template is used on alot of other pages. If you'd like to start setting something similar up for Morrowind and need some help, feel free to ask! --Nephele 14:46, 30 November 2006 (EST)

Thanks, I haven't seen that template before, and it's definitely usable. However, my argument for having a seperate page for each Potion (or rather Potion effect) is that it increases the site's searchability immensely. When I started out using the site, I often had slight problems finding the information I was looking for with the search, and often had to resort to going to the Morrowind section and clicking my way through to the right topic, which is a slightly more arduous task, and not quite Wiki-ish - though I realize that this particular Wiki has some different design issues and decisions to make than the 'big' Wiki does. I'll take a look at the tables for now, as I believe it would still be a good idea to have the information presented in that way, in addition to having seperate pages for each, and I strongly dislike barging in and asking everybody to change direction, so I will save all that for later. For now, I'll focus on hitting the right keys in the edit history links ... :) -- Isak 15:16, 30 November 2006 (EST)
