Naaslaarum and Voslaarum Translation[edit]

Since you're a draconic translator, can you work out what these dragon names mean or is it not that simple? Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 14:32, 7 September 2013 (GMT)

There are several users on this site who consider themselves Draconic translators. The problem is, no one can figure out what their names mean. So to answer your question, it's not that simple. I know Jeancey had this question for Bethesda for either at PAX last weekend or at some other event. •WoahBro►talk 14:36, 7 September 2013 (GMT)
How can no one figure it out compared to Alduin or Odahviing's name? Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 14:39, 7 September 2013 (GMT)
I don't know, I'm not a translator myself. My best guess would be that there aren't any small words that make-up their names like other dragons. Ex. Odahviing's name contains the words "Snow Hunter Winged" (Od Aah Viing). For Naaslaarum, there are no entries for the word 'Naa' or 'Naal' making translating very difficult and all speculation. I'm pretty sure that the community has accepted that the only way we'll figure what these names mean in Draconic is from Bethesda themselves so it's probably best not to worry about it. •WoahBro►talk 14:48, 7 September 2013 (GMT)
WoahBro is correct. Believe me, I've tried translating their names, but most dragon names are composed of two or three draconic words, and these two names aren't - their names include words that don't exist in draconic. Unfortunately, that means I can't translate it. • JAT 20:54, 7 September 2013 (GMT)

Ogrim[edit]

Hey Jak, have any more info on that new ogrim ESO image you uploaded? I was wondering if the updated model deserves some kind of mention on Online:Ogrim. —Legoless (talk) 19:08, 1 November 2013 (GMT)

The only thing we have is what was posted here, which reads:
In one of our previous Creating ESO articles, we showed you the Ogrim and talked about how this Daedric creature was brought to life in ESO. Since then, we’ve revisited the Ogrim’s look. This is something that happens frequently during development, and we wanted to share its new art with you. Take a look and let us know what you think!
It looks like they just updated the visual model and decided to make an official news blurb about it and release the new image. • JAT 23:33, 1 November 2013 (GMT)
Cool, thanks. In that case, I think the gallery speaks for itself. —Legoless (talk) 23:46, 1 November 2013 (GMT)

Lah word wall?[edit]

Hi there. Just curious, I saw you added the translation of a word wall for Drain Vitality a while back. Where did this Lah word wall translation come from? The only two full sized new word walls I recall in DG were in Dimhollow and Arcwind - The one in Forgotten Vale was just a stone with one word on it. --Jimeee (talk) 11:11, 10 December 2013 (GMT)

It was a while back, so I don't remember exactly how, but I'm guessing I either found the Forgotten Vale word wall first or last. (Since I didn't add the last inscription, I'm guessing it's the latter). Even if one of the word walls is set to only display one word, because the word shown is dependent on what order you find them in, there will actually be two different sets of "walls", one with just one word and one with a full inscription. At least, that's how I remember it - it's been a long time since I've transcribed one of those. • JAT 17:38, 10 December 2013 (GMT)
Ok, I think I get what you mean. So it seems the only way to actually see the full inscription of "Lah" is to read the full wall in Dimhollow (or Arcwind) first (to reveal Gaan) then the full wall in Arcwind (or Dimhollow) second (to reveal Lah). If your second reading is the stone in the Vale, you only get the single letter "Lah" instead of the full wall - which in turn will give you a full inscription of "Haas" at the final wall. I must have done Dimhollow > Vale > Arcwind in my playthrough, which is why I didn't recognize the Lah translations. --Jimeee (talk) 18:12, 10 December 2013 (GMT)

Item Data/Quest Item[edit]

Since {{Item Data}} is your baby, I just wanted to check: is the saved data for Item Data being used anywhere other than {{Quest Item}}? I'm thinking that given that Quest Item is only used on a couple of pages, we might be better off just scrapping it and then not saving any data at all in Item Data, just using it as a row template instead. I notice Item Data itself isn't used on all that many pages, but it's certainly used a lot on those pages...should I be looking for other pages where it could be used, or did you complete that after you designed it? Robin Hood  (talk) 05:59, 21 December 2013 (GMT)

The original purpose of that template was to give us a standardized way of displaying quest-related item info within walkthroughs (whether it was a required item or a reward). Apparently it didn't catch on (I'm not sure most of the editors were aware of its existence), so if no one else minds I wouldn't be opposed to having {{Item Data}} being replaced by {{Item Info}} which does all the standard displaying of info without saving anything. I might ask Krusty and a couple other editors if they have any use for such a template before scrapping it. • JAT 18:37, 21 December 2013 (GMT)

Sidebar[edit]

Hey Jak. As a mini-project, I've switched to the Vector skin, and over the next little while (or long while, who knows?), I'm going to try tweaking our Vector CSS so that it's relatively consistent with the Monobook appearance, and is a viable option. First thing I noticed, though, apart from all the white, is that your sidebar breaks in some weird and wonderful ways, with the dropdown menus collapsing some items, but not others. For example, in the collapsed state, I see Skyrim (the main header), *Hearthfire, *Dragonborn, while in the expanded state, I see Skyrim (the main header), Skyrim (the sub-header, in tiny print), *Dawnguard, *Hearthfire, *Dragonborn. And yes, I'm literally seeing the asterisks, not bullets. The other games are similar, with some entries having asterisks and in normal print, while others have no asterisks and are in small print, with no apparent rhyme or reason to which one shows which way that I can see.

Also, the "Other Games" link doesn't show up at all. Robin Hood  (talk) 04:49, 2 February 2014 (GMT)

Yeah, I'm not surprised - my sidebar code is heavily tweaked to line up with Monobook. I'd probably have to build the sidebar from scratch (which wouldn't be too difficult) to get it to work with Vector, which I know is fundamentally very different from the other skins. • JAT 06:01, 2 February 2014 (GMT)

Want to edit, but text isn't there![edit]

So, I was trying to edit General Tullius's Skyrim article because I noticed that one of the verbs in the first few paragraphs was using the past tense instead of the present tense, which is used by the rest of the article. However, when I tried to edit this, the text I wanted wasn't there. All that I could find was a note: " { { L o r e : T u l l i u s } } " (remove the spaces) which seems to be some sort of code to use sentences from the lore article, because when I tried to use it on this page without the spaces, I got those same sentences! Indeed, when I go to the lore article, it is almost exactly the same wording, except that there, it is all in the past tense. So, my questions are: What exactly is that code? What does it do? And how can I make my edit? Bookwyrm1357 (talk) 19:13, 22 March 2014 (GMT)

You figured out most of it. What it does is transclude the words, that is it copies the words from one page to the other without typing them twice. If you go to edit the lore page you should see some {{Tense}} coding, inside these are the words that change from one page to the next. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:22, 22 March 2014 (GMT)
(edit conflict) The article is transcluded, if you're seeing that instead of the text. To edit it, you need to go to Lore:Tullius, though since it's a lore article, the tense is accurate. The tense is the Skyrim namespace is just how it has to be by the nature of transclusion.
Unrelated: Jak, y u no talk to me? D: -damon  talkcontribs 19:23, 22 March 2014 (GMT)
Can I just type out the wording in order to make my edit (to the Skyrim specific article)? Or is there a policy that it needs to be transcluded? Also, part of what puzzled me was that the tenses were not just different, but were not uniformly changed. That implies some sort of word-by-word specification of tense.Bookwyrm1357 (talk) 20:14, 22 March 2014 (GMT)

editing[edit]

Ok well this is a really dumb question, but I'm pretty new to all the editing stuff on this site; I've looked at the editing guide stuff but still don't quite understand how to edit pages like the bestiary, places and people kind of editing. I would like to help but don't want to mess anything up. So can you tell me? Lorenut (talk) 22:55, 18 May 2014 (GMT)

EditsPerDay sandbox[edit]

Hey Jak. If you're still around, can you clear out your User:Jak Atackka/EditsPerDay sandbox or put it up for deletion, please? I'm working on cleaning up any #save/#load data that doesn't need to be there. Thanks! If I don't hear back from you in a couple of days, I'll just do the {{Sandbox blanked}} thing on it so you can always go back to it if you want. Robin Hood  (talk) 03:41, 9 August 2014 (GMT)

Oops, I completely forgot about that sandbox. I marked it for speedy deletion, since I don't need it anymore. • JAT 20:27, 13 August 2014 (GMT)

Sandbox 9[edit]

I've blanked it because its calling a couple of links multiple times and the effort to replace them all doesn't appear worth it. Those links are being placed for deletion too. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:32, 24 August 2014 (GMT)

Fine with me. Since I'm pretty much inactive, feel free to do whatever site maintenance needs to be done with my sandboxes. Everything is saved in the history anyways, so nothing gets lost if you have to modify or blank it. • JAT 00:56, 25 August 2014 (GMT)

Mentor Notice[edit]

Hey Jak. This is an official notice to let you know that you no longer meet the qualifications for the mentor program. While you've technically been active in the past three months, you've been off the list for over 6 months now unopposed. I'll be removing the userbox from your page once the ten days have passed, unless you'd like to be re-added. —Legoless (talk) 23:44, 3 April 2015 (GMT)

I went ahead and removed it. Thanks for the notice. • JAT 08:13, 4 April 2015 (GMT)
