Arena Debugging Controls[edit]

Can you elaborate on this addition, please? I tried it on my game, and unless I'm misunderstanding something, it didn't work. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 19:34, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

You need to press all three keys simultaneously. KShrimp (talk) 22:46, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
I tried that. It did nothing. Which version of Arena are you using? Robin Hood  (talk) 01:26, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
GOG 1.07 and Floppy 1.06. Works in both of them. KShrimp (talk) 09:44, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
I'm looking at the map on the 1.07 CD version, and hitting QBX at the same time does nothing. Have I misunderstood what I'm supposed to be doing? If I am, please let me know what I'm missing; if I'm not, then we should note that it only works in some versions. Robin Hood  (talk) 22:20, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
Try it in game, not on the automap screen. KShrimp (talk) 23:16, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
Makes no difference. I also tried downloading the 1.06 official download, and it doesn't do anything there, either. Can you take a screenshot of it, at least, so I can be sure of what I'm looking for? Robin Hood  (talk) 01:57, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

() Wait, I thought you meant the main map screen. How do you get a minimap? Or is that what the QBX is supposed to give you? We have no documentation of there being a minimap, and Google doesn't return any results, either. I can't even find any screenshots with a minimap on them. Have you downloaded any other utilities or anything like that for Arena that might be adding this feature? Robin Hood  (talk) 19:46, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

Q+B+X toggles it. Because it is not documented, I filed it as a debugging feature. It was [discovered by accident a long time ago]. KShrimp (talk) 20:28, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
At the very least, it should be explained in the notes how to get the minimap, because I doubt if most people are aware of the old Russian page, or even older English page that it links to. It's not mentioned on any Cheats sites that I looked at, so it's obviously not widely known. Robin Hood  (talk) 23:00, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Do you find "Q+B+X" is not clear enough for pressing 3 keys together? KShrimp (talk) 01:03, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
That part's fine, but as I understand it, you still have to activate the minimap in the first place by shooting spells at a wall a bunch of times. QBX on its own does nothing unless the minimap is already activated (or so it appears...I never got as far as activating the minimap, my only character doesn't have a lot of magicka). Robin Hood  (talk) 01:12, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
To activate it, you need to press these 3 keys. Do you have a QWERTY keyboard? KShrimp (talk) 01:16, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
I just this minute got the minimap by casting spells at the wall. QBX still does absolutely nothing. And yes, I'm on a QWERTY keyboard. The QBX trick isn't mentioned on either the Russian page you linked to or the English that it links to. Where did you find that? Robin Hood  (talk) 01:22, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
In the game files. So unless you have a different executable than one everyone else has, the issue is on your side. KShrimp (talk) 01:32, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

() Where in the game files? I've got the standard 1.07 CD downloaded from our files section, as well as the Bethesda-released 1.06 floppy version. QBX doesn't work in either of them. Nobody else anywhere I could find has ever mentioned this key combination. Is there some kind of command-line option or setup that you're doing that might explain it? Robin Hood  (talk) 01:34, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

I've just installed 1.06 from the files section and launch in in DosBox 0.74. The QBX combination worked. Therefore I don't see a point in discussing it further. KShrimp (talk) 02:10, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Could you still tell us where in the game files you found it? Because you seem to be the only who ever documented this shortcut, which is quite interesting if we can get it to work. --Ilaro (talk) 02:28, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Can you get it to work? Please don't tell us you are unable to press three buttons together too. KShrimp (talk) 02:45, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
KShrimp: I did the exact same thing last night when we were trying to figure it out, so I think we can rule out EXE issues...we're obviously using the same files. I can't see why it would make a difference, but what platform are you running on? I'm on Windows 10 Pro.
And yes, per Ilaro, can you please tell us where you found this? If you'd rather, you can find me on Discord and we can chat there. It might make this a bit faster, if nothing else. I'm a programmer, so I have pretty much all the tools one could ever want in terms of tracking things down in the game files. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:51, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
For a floppy version, it is toggled at seg000:4b48, for a CD one @4b6a. KShrimp (talk) 03:13, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Okay, we have a winner! I was able to confirm that the Alt-F5 debug combo right above the BQX one worked, but BQX itself did not.
Seeing that it was using Interrupt 9 to scan the keyboard, however, gave me an idea. I'm working on a laptop. Different keyboards are known for not always scanning the same way, especially for modern laptop keyboards and/or when it comes to unexpected key combinations (like three letters at the same time). So, I went to our server computer, unplugged the full-sized USB keyboard and plugged it into the laptop. The shortcut works perfectly from that keyboard.
Given that, I think we can restore the info on the Controls page, but add a note to it that this doesn't work on all keyboards. While we're at it, we may want to document that Alt-F5 thing as well, but I haven't played Arena through, so I don't understand what it's actually doing. It might make more sense to document both in their own section, though. Do you have any thoughts on that?
I apologize for this being such an arduous ordeal, but our job as patrollers and admins is to verify the information on the wiki, and you were introducing something new that nobody else had documented before, and not providing any evidence to back it up. In those circumstances, I had no choice but to revert the addition when I wasn't readily able to confirm it. I'm glad we were finally able to figure it out! thanks[edit]

Thanks for updating the Daggerfall Mobile Types! Uniblab (talk) 17:26, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Daggerfall Lycanthropy 1.22% source?[edit]

From your edit summary on the Daggerfall:Lycanthropy page from 2018, you say the 1.22% is the corrected value. What's your source? From searches everywhere else it's 0.6%, even the UESP pages of Daggerfall:Werewolf & Daggerfall:Wereboar also has it as 0.6%. The only place that has it as 1.22% is from your edit to the Daggerfall Lycanthropy. So yeah I'm kinda skeptical & want a source. Clyde BlueSnake (talk) 06:07, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
