Patroller[edit]

Sure, I'm fine with that. I was thinking of nominating myself a while back, but I wasn't entirely sure if I should try to take on much responsibility in the community, as my interest might suddenly fizzle out. Potters?[edit]

Sorry, I had never heard that term before. Is that British slang? I assumed the author meant "putters" because, though it's usually used with vehicles, the general definition is "Occupy oneself in a desultory but pleasant manner, doing a number of small tasks." While the only proper use of the term "potter" is "one who makes pottery."Minor Edits 23:59, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm unsure of its origins, but from what I understand it means to ramble around the house doing odd jobs and the like. Not an Oxford definition, but like I said in the edit summary it's probably localised. Legoless 00:03, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
This page (scroll down to World English Dictionary) says the origin comes from "[C16 (in the sense: to poke repeatedly): from Old English potian to thrust; see put ]". I've certainly used the word in the sense Legoless describes, but I've never heard "putters" used to describe the same action. Edit: Correction it is a English word for Alley, out of curiosity I looked at the Wikipedia article for Alley. It's not even so widespread to be an English word for "alley" - in my experience it's almost exclusively a northern term. Being from Lancashire, I've heard and used the word all my life, but when I used it after having moved to London I just drew blank stares. I hadn't heard those alternative versions though.
Lest we move off into totally forum territory, it's probably a good rule of thumb that if somebody expresses confusion about a word (eg putter/potter), that the offending sentence be rewritten as a matter of course. Obviously if somebody starts trolling ("Table? What the hell is a table????") then that's a different matter. rpeh •TCE 01:05, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Deleted Comment[edit]

Hi there. You deleted a comment of mine, labeling it "rambling (...) has nothing to do with the subject at hand" (Jyggalag discussion section). I am not going to question your widespread experience and good intention on removing a pathetic hater's rambling if it seems inadequate to you. But I posted my response because I thought it was not pointless "rambling" and actually had something to do with the subject at hand and because I am not a pathetic hater. If I wouldn't think it was appropriate, I would never have posted it, believe me. Sure, starting out with a little joke was a bad idea, even if it was meant to make an occasional reader smile a bit, but that wasn't the point of the section. Other than that, I don't see why it was not fitting for your taste. But if one starts something then finish it properly. Make sure to check the very few comments in some discussion sections I made so far (because I wouldn't dare to deface the main pages, especially from now on) and remove everything if it is not fitting. I am new here so probably made many mistakes in a very short time in spite of my intentions. Guess I shouldn't take this personally. It is your job to watch over things among others, anyway. Surely, I shouldn't write things like that it seems. I accept it. Feel free to delete this one, too. It probably looks awful on your page and is really not fitting here, either. Corprus (Morrowind: Diseases)[edit]

The original description was added via copy/paste by me right from the Construction Set. It's one of two descriptions, the other one being "Corprus is a deadly disease that attacks a victim's mind and body. Victims grow mad and violent, and their bodies sprout wild, revolting growths. This disease comes from contact with corprus beasts or other blight monsters" but since that is a variation only told by one Ashlander Wise Woman while the other version is the opinion of several persons including an apothecary and a healer I thought of it as the more medical appropriate summary ;) Shimenawa 22:41, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Camp 2[edit]

Hey there! Just because I took a brief break and you archived the discussion doesn’t mean I have forgotten about our CAMP project! :D What is in my sandbox now is probably very close – but we still need :

  • An overview of camp containers/sacks (like this)
  • Info on respawning containers – and detailed info (percentages if the inhabitant can be a dog and archer ect ect, like in the dungeon pages. I realize that the bandits can steal your loot from the containers, but I’m not entirely sure how we should handle that one. Otherwise, I’m confident this is the way to go. --Krusty 16:54, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Welcome back. I haven't a clue what to do about the containers - it looks like it needs to be extracted from the CS by a bot. I have the percentage chance of each type of enemy appearing (quoting the archived discussion, " 50% chance of a melee bandit, 25% missile bandit, 12.5% magic bandit and 12.5% dog"). I wasn't aware of the bandits taking things from containers, and that would need to be noted if any of the containers are safe for storage (similar to NPCs taking your ingredients).
I'd like to bring up the topic of clutter as well. Because many camps are practically empty, I think clutter should be worth noting. Your sandbox currently mentions the two tan bowls present (although I couldn't figure out which exact one to link to). The general rule seems to be to disregard anything below 5 gold or something like that, but I think the camp pages would be an okay exception. What do you think about it? Nice work! Now we just need to figure out how to determine the damn chests- and sacks. Can you see ANYTHING special in the CS when you're looking at different camps? You know, different types of chests, stuff like that? And does the chest at Trossan camp respawn? --Krusty 16:35, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
The chest is called 'DungBanditChestCampLoot'. It respawns. It can contain a few gold coins (50% chance), a repair hammer (10%) and some random valuable clutter (75%). A quick look in the containers section also shows a 'DungBanditSackCampLoot', but those are the only special camp containers that I can see. I have no idea why they weren't included on Oblivion:Bandit Dungeons, as they're right beside the rest of them. I could (probably) add them by hand if needed. Looking at some other camps, other containers are often used as well (a middle class clutter sack and a bandit dungeon food sack are two that I noticed). I'm not sure if generic "household" containers are listed anywhere, nor do I think there's a need to, so those that don't have a link should have their percentages on the page. I think I see now why they weren't added in the first place. The loot tables are definitely not designed for such petty treasures - the minor gold and clutter couldn't be listed. I've added the containers anyway, as I don't think it will be a problem. Three coins and a silver pitcher aren't relevant to the player in most cases. Legoless 17:14, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Good. I just found jewelry in the chest, so it can't be that bad. Right now, I'm testing whether or not the bandits will EVER loot what you store in the chests (poisoned apples), just to see how intelligent this game really is. If the bandit is still alive in an hour we don't have to mention it. Hm, you're right. At high levels I'm seeing gold nuggets and jewellery. Looking at the levelled list, it contains another two lists for just these items. Both are 100% chance. With 21 others items in the list, that would be a 4.5∞% of either showing up. Arrows are also there, with only a 75% chance of appearing when picked. That would be roughly 3.4%. I have been thinking about the camp stuff: based on our two “experiements”, we need to decide exactly which headers to use; while Trossan Camp works perfectly, Carbo’s Camp looks a bit awkward because of the lack of any treasure. I think we should be consistent about this, so here are my suggestion(s):
  • Occupants
  • Contents (includes chests, sacks and bedrolls)
  • Flora

I think it would only be important to mention if they didn't respawn, so that people could use them for storage. All of the ones in your sandboxes respawn. Although I'm still interested to see what bandits do with things in containers. Looking at a few AIs, none of them seem to have any packages telling them to pick up items - only a few sleep packages. I guess if they had an eat package they might go looking for something, but I've never witnessed that before and there's no evidence in the CS to support it (that I could find). I have now had a bandit wandering around food sacks with poisoned apples for two full in-game days. Nothing. Itis safe to say that the bandits will NOT suddenly sit down and eat. Brilliant work in #1, mate - and excellent writing as well. If you look on the original page it becomes apparent just how much this improves the pages. Throw on some stats and lets launch it! Lore:Dragonfires[edit]

Yep. I be ragin. ;) No, but in all seriousness, I do have a question (not an argument). I believe that the book does say that Alessia lit (or received) the first dragonfires. Exact quotations: "So long as you and your descendants shall wear the Amulet of Kings, then shall this dragonfire burn..." and "But should the dragonfires fail... then shall the Empire descend into darkness..." Does the fact that "dragonfires" is not capitalized change something? Just figured I'd ask so you don't have to undo TWO possibly insignificant edits. Thanks. --Kalis Agea 00:56, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

I was supposed to post about this on your talk page, but I must've forgotten - sorry! Yes, it looks like the dragonfires were created from Akatosh's blood. Go ahead and make that edit if it isn't on the page. However, there is very little evidence of any "past" dragonfires (before the time of Alessia), apart from the last line of the book saying something about a re-kindling (which is what I assume you based your edit on). Wikitables[edit]

Hey, Legoless. I am currently working on a draft for my Lore Pages Redesign Project as I plan to bring up the need for such a project on the Community Portal. I am putting the finishing touches on it today and tomorrow, and was just wondering: is there a Template page for Wikitables (like the one of the Septim Dynasty)? I was going to simply show it there, but figured that A) It would clog up the page. and B) That we probably have a page for it anyway. Lore:Bestiary Iron Golem[edit]

It is true that my addition is mere speculation, but due to the sketchy depiction of arena's creatures and how they barely fit into the rest of the elder scrolls it seems very likely to me that the Iron Golem was some sort of prototype to the dwemer Steam Centurion on part of the game designers. It is after all a creation of men or mer and it shares many elements with the dwarven construct like the spiked mace on its right arm, the huge pauldrons, and so on. Interpretations like the speculation the Homunculus might be related to imps seem way more specious to me due to the lack in visual similitude and yet it is one of quite a few to be allowed to stay in the article. And I stated on purpose that they MAY be related ;) Please, at least compare both creatures yourself - you will find both golems to be stunning alike, not necessarily in their coloring (goblins were yellow back then as well, so...) but in overall shape and many many details ;) ! --Shimenawa 23:34, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

First off let me say that I can see the resemblance clearly, there are many details physical characteristics that are similar for both of them. However we dislike speculation unless it is absolutely completely obvious that a connection was supposed to be there. If you could find an example of a Dwemer Steam Centurion being called a Golem it would clear up enough doubt for me to consider this a good note, but until then I don't see the other editors agreeing with this edit. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:06, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately the dwemer animunculi are hardly ever mentioned, and when it happens not once by their in-game designation BUT while it does not mention the Steam Centurion per se, the Chimarvamidium refers to all dwarven robots as golems. In fact, Jnaggo the armorer (the protagonist) goes so far as to claim “A Dwemer child of eight can create a golem, but only a truly great warrior and armorer can pretend to be one.” In "Response to Bero's Speech by Malviser, Battlemage" even the Numidium is seen as a golem, and I am sure we both agree that no child whatsoever could build the Brass God ;) That makes it somewhat obvious to me that arrogant Imperials simply think of any kind of dwarven creation with consciousness as >golem<. Truth is, while I am absolutely certain that at least some connection between Arena's Iron Golem and the Steam Centurion exists, I would not bet my life on it that the Iron golems are the "real deal". Edwinna Elbert of Ald'ruhn's Mage Guild is/was able to recreate all kinds of animunculi if provided with the right schematics. Maybe those Iron Golems were just a clumsy attempt by a dabbler who was lucky enough to find some dwemer plans of his own? While I can not give you a 100% guarantee that the connection exists I hope you could still consider to let the note stay. Though we both might come to different conclusions as to why those creatures look that stunningly similar, the remark serves as a hint to readers and might aid them in finding their own solutions to this little mystery. And just between the two of us: I highly doubt the guy who wrote on the "Arena:Monsters"-page that the Medusa could be related to the Lamia of Daggerfall had two books to back up his assumption ;D --Shimenawa 01:34, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Please feel free to add this interesting find to Arena:Monsters, as that seems to be the style of the page. But in lore terms, the iron golem is the same as any other golem: a construct animated by magic. See also Iron Atronach, which is a more correct term for the creature as it is newer (although perhaps more confusing given the elemental daedra being called atronachs in recent games). And remember that even if the evolution of the series seems to support issues such as this, speculation should always be avoided unless glaringly obvious. If any of the other lore entries for Arena monsters ignores this rule, they need to be fixed. Legoless 13:25, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I should have specified. I added the verification tag for someone else to check it out in the CS again, which wouldn't usually be done during the project's usual course. I scanned through Irene Metrick's schedule and found her to be a member of the Bruma faction, but couldn't see anything about a trip on the 5th. Unmarked Camps[edit]

I'm not sure I get the purpose of Oblivion:Two Decker Camp and Oblivion:West Weald Camp. They're both orphaned at the moment but I'm not sure how to fix that. The idea was to make pages for each unmarked camp - and in the end (if we succeeded) link to them from the normal Campsite page, maybe under a separate "Unmarked Camps"-section, maybe with a simple (unmarked) after the camp name. When we're done (Lego had some exams to attend to), they will probably disappear from the Unmarked Places page - unless it still needs a brief mentioning for easier access to the new pages. --Krusty 13:35, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Krusty pretty much nailed it. The unmarked camps are just as substantial as the marked ones, so it's better to have them on their own articles where all the info can be listed. Legoless 15:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Lore Redlinks[edit]

I'd urge you to consider whether we really want pages for Dyus, Haskill, Relmyna Verenim and Vitharn in Lore space. All four of those links are only likely ever to be relevant to the Shivering Isles, so I'm not sure they should be created elsewhere. Consider: we don't have Lore pages for the nobility of Cyrodiil, the Ashlander rulers, or any similar NPCs. In general, where we have Lore articles for NPCs (eg, Barenziah, Helseth) it's because of their importance elsewhere. Looking through, there really aren't many times we mention NPCs, and I think it's clear why. Ditto Vitharn. Yes it's an important ruin, but then we don't mention any of the others.

I'm not trying to stop new articles being created - quite the opposite, one of the things I keep meaning to start is to get a list of all people mentioned in the books and work out whether or not they need mentioning - but in cases where the only mention of a location or a person is likely to be in one game, a Lore-specific article is not necessary. I see your point. A section on the list page is what I had intended for Relmyna, so I guess the redlink there probably isn't useful unless used as a redirect. However, Vitharn has a bit of history behind it from books, much more than most cities have, so I think a full article would be appropriate. As for Dyus and Haskill, they have a bit of OOG background over at TIL, which obviously can't be mentioned on their game-specific pages. I think this warrants a separate article from the list, as well as the fact that the two are (or, were) very high-standing figures. Legoless 17:22, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
