About cleanup/mundane/clutter objects deletion[edit]

Hey, I've been quite inactive on the Wiki for a month or so and I came back to find all of my OPRP pages edited by you. This is not a complaint, btw. I understood most of your edits since they were of syntax and grammar and I agree with you.

The only parts of your edits that I failed to understand were those relating to mundane/clutter objects deletion. I wanted to know which objects are classified as such so that you don't have to constatly go and edit the articles I edit because I keep on repeating the same mistakes.

Thanks in advance

I'd have to do some digging to figure out the exact definition of useful items used when first creating those pages. But the basic idea was that items which serve no purpose, have a negligible value, and can be found in countless places aren't worth mentioning on the pages. A reader is not going to go to a dungeon just to find a set of Scales, and probably isn't even going to go back through a section if he/she finds out that he/she missed picking up some scales. In my opinion, listing such items only decreases the value of the treasure lists: it becomes significantly harder for readers to identify what really is of interest if they have to wade through a long list of insignificant items. It's hard for readers to realize that The Argonian Account, Book 4 is worth grabbing (because it's worth 25 gold) if it's buried in a list of a dozen other books that are only worth one gold each.
In terms of figuring out what to skip, it's probably safe to skip: anything listed as Clutter or Dishes; any book that's described as "cheap" or "common" in its ID; most items that are worth less than 5 gold, unless they are useful. Or, alternatively, you could assume that if it's not currently listed on the page and doesn't have any purpose, you should skip it, because a consistent definition of what to include was already applied to all of the dungeons. --NepheleTalk 16:40, 6 December 2008 (EST)
Perfect! Thanks for that, I suppose it will make both of our lives significantly easier. --SerCenKing 06:11, 8 December 2008 (EST)
Hey, sorry to bother again. I noticed that of all the pages that you went through you missed the Fort Cuptor one. Since this was probably my worst-written page (in my opinion) I went ahead and did a major cleanup for it. Would you mind checking it out to see if I've done it right and in case I made any mistakes, as I probably have, could you please point them out? Thanks. --SerCenKing 07:48, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Thanks alot Neph >.>[edit]

Thanks for deleting my posts on The Ultimate Heist. Yes, that IP (24.226.23.56) is me. I was getting ticked off with the quest and was at the time, looking for help. Then again, you probably just thought it was vandalism. I guess you wouldn't care, but I finished the quest, and got the achievement. Thanks again for deleting my comments, try not to let it happen in the future ;) DaedryonTCE 02:40, 7 December 2008 (EST)

And again! Thanks for deleting even more of my contribs. That was a legit glitch, Baurus was stuck for awhile. That was not a personal story, thank you very much, that was a glitch. Quit stalking my effin' contribs for christ sakes. DaedryonTCE 02:42, 7 December 2008 (EST)
Perhaps if you would post comments that actually had some relevance to the wiki, then I wouldn't have to delete them and all of our lives would be simplified. The purpose of wiki talk pages is to discuss improvements that need to be made to the article, not to post free-association ramblings about everything that crosses your mind when you think of the quest. --NepheleTalk 02:45, 7 December 2008 (EST)
Blah blah blah. Meanwhile, on Path to Dawn, your comment was very...well...at a lack of a professional word at your level, it was wrong. The graphical glitch IS reproducible. I started a new save and did it a second time. By "loading-required door", I mean the doors to bring up a load screen. I walked through way before Baurus did. I went back to get him and he followed me through. When I came through after him, his arrow was way off my compass, and as it turned out, he was already 2 doors ahead of me. I then noticed when he walked around, he had no walking animation, he simply stood in place and slid around the room, with a noticeable bounce added as if he was walking. I decided to knock him out, as that usually works for most glitches of this nature, and when he got up, he had the most stupidest pose I have every seen. I wish I had taken a picture. When I did attempt to while moving backwards, he seemingly fixed himself and walked normally again. Therefore, after re-producing this glitch twice, I do believe you are wrong. Dissapearing Stuff[edit]

Hi! i got a problem, sometimes when I kill people and creatures on Oblivion that have weapons sometimes the weapons fall through the floor and im stumped. can u help me? (ps im on Xbox360)--Prince of Madness 19:07, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Please read the notice at the top of my talk page: I don't have the time right now to be answering non-wiki related questions. In general asking general gameplay questions on user talk pages is not a good idea, because it tends to annoy the user you ask and makes it unlikely that anyone else will answer the question. --NepheleTalk 19:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Lost Password[edit]

Hi! i typed my password in to log in but it said inncorrect password! i tried it tons of times and it didnt work and I havent changed my password. help me.... --124.177.132.210 19:22, 8 December 2008 (EST)

If you want someone to help you, it really is useful if you provide some amount of necessary information to make it possible for that person to help you. Such as perhaps, your user name? After wasting too much time on this, I was able to figure out that you're probably Prince of Madness.
But in any case, there is nothing on the wiki that would have happened to mess up your password, especially not in the four minutes between your last logged-in edit and your first anonymous edit. If you've forgotten your password, the only way to find out your password is to use the "email my password" feature on the login page.
And since you've bugged me, may I also point out that edits such as this one are completely unacceptable? Editing other people's user pages is rude, and replacing people's user pages with ugly comments is particularly disrespectful. If you continue to make such edits, it will lead to an official warning and, if necessary, your account and/or anonymous IP will be blocked because harassing other members of the community will not be tolerated. --NepheleTalk 20:06, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Userpage vandalism[edit]

That was not me. I only have 1 IP. 24.226.23.56 is me. Thanks for reverting. DaedryonTCE 20:53, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Also, I don't know if you noticed this, but the guy who made the above comment about his lost password, aka, "124.177.132.210" is the guy who vandalized my page, so do me a favour and block him. DaedryonTCE 20:54, 8 December 2008 (EST)
Nevermind just read above, you did notice. DaedryonTCE 20:54, 8 December 2008 (EST)

SO srry!! i was looking at ur userpage when i left for a bit and my brother came in a had some "fun". ill make sure it never happens again. srry! --123.211.235.225 21:46, 11 December 2008 (EST)

I don't believe that for a second. Many have tried the "it was my brother" excuse on me back on Wikia and Wikipedia, and it always ends up being that the person was lying. DaedryonTCE 13:59, 12 December 2008 (EST)

Userpage Link[edit]

Hi Nephele, concerning my edit to this, are you aware that there is an external link on that page? I dont think anything to do with the image being there and judging by the username and the fact there has been virtually on explanation for the page content i stick by my original decision to mark the page for speedy deletion. Feel free to correct me but i still have concern that this is nothing more than a spammer. --Volanaro Talk 02:35, 13 December 2008 (EST)

Links to external sites are not automatically considered spam. As stated at the vandalism policy, spam is "the addition of any inappropriate links to articles for the sole purpose of advertisement". There are two external links on that user page, both of which lead to the same image that is shown on the page (and both of which I checked before removing the speedy deletion tag). msplinks.com is simply a MySpace tool that creates redirects for links included in MySpace comments (a tool introduced specifically to combat spam); in this case the redirect points to photobucket.com, just like the displayed image. There is nothing nefarious about posting external images on user pages. Furthermore, this user is not going to benefit financially from somebody following either of the links, nor is the user going to benefit from any increase in the google rankings for photobucket.com or myspace.com. So it is not obvious to me why the links qualify as spam, in particular in the context of a user page, where it's pretty hard for a link to be "inappropriate".
The even more fundamental problem, however, is that I do not see why the page qualifies for speedy deletion. In order to be speedily deleted, a page must meet the criteria for speedy deletion. This isn't a minor bureaucratic requirement. The whole basis of speedy deletion is that a few specific cases have been identified where there is never any possibility for a page to be mistakenly deleted. This provides some justification for bypassing the usual wiki feedback and accountability mechanisms -- mechanisms which are an integral part of a community-controlled wiki. Imagine if you were a new user who posted a user page only to find out an hour later that it had been speedily deleted: not only is the page gone, but you haven't even been given an opportunity to ask why it was deleted; you can't pull up the page history to see what discussion preceded the deletion. Having recently been the victim of a server glitch that deleted some content I had posted to a work-related forum, I know very well just how frustrating it is to have your content removed without any explanation.
The reasons you posted for the speedy deletion were "spam, nonsense". Spam is not listed anywhere in the speedy deletion criteria, even if the page could be considered to be spam. The nonsense and test page criteria do not apply to user pages, because users are encouraged to use their own user pages for experimenting with the wiki. In short, as I said in my edit summary "Does not qualify for speedy deletion. Although the picture may be annoying, it's not spam and this is a user page." I'm still not aware of any information to change that assessment. --NepheleTalk 12:32, 13 December 2008 (EST)
Very well, having seen the reasons i admit now that i may have been a bit harsh in marking the page for deletion, i guess i just wasnt thinking straight art the time. --Volanaro Talk 13:30, 19 December 2008 (EST)

Code tags[edit]

Ah, sorry about removing the code tags from the Timescale thing, it just didn't look like an inputtable code to me, but then again, I don't know anything about the console. DaedryonTCE 23:41, 21 December 2008 (EST)

New Maps?[edit]

You may have noticed that I uploaded some ZIP files today. They contain the various zoom levels for three possible new maps - Pale Pass, Paradise and Painted World. I've run the artifact-remover over them but I haven't done any kind of listing of items or creatures. If you think it's worth having these, one of us can do the location info. If not, feel free to speedy-delete the ZIP files. –RpehTCE 13:20, 22 December 2008 (EST)

Yes, I noticed them. I agree that adding them would be useful -- but the problem is how to do it. The options that I can come up with are:
  • Create a whole new map link for them, e.g., uesp.net/maps/ppmap/ppmap.shtml. Which also means behind-the-scenes a whole new database just to keep track of the icons displayed on the Pale Pass map, a new Daveh/ subpage to allow cartographers to edit it, etc. On top of all that ugliness, it would just be incredibly awkward for anyone to use the maps. We'd have to customize any maplinks that point to the ppmap/pamap/pwmap/whatever versions of the page. Users on the obmap who do a search on "Pale Pass Fort" would be confused when it says no such place exists. About the only advantage is that it would require minimal coding to implement.
  • Stuff the new maps into corners of the Tamriel map. Means most of the images you uploaded would need to be redone -- along with most of the existing Tamriel tiles. And it would still be a kludgy hack. In particular, there'd have to be some ugliness to translate a submap's real x/y coordinates into a fake set of Tamriel x/y coordinates. Not to mention, I'm not sure if the submaps would all fit into the available empty spaces -- especially if we later decide that the other worlds (in particular, all of the Oblivion worlds) should also be added.
  • Do it properly. Have a world option on the main obmap that specifies which worldspace should be shown. Have a dropdown box to allow users to select which world is displayed. When doing a search or centeron command, have the obmap select the correct worldspace to display the requested location. It's not a major amount of coding... but getting into redesigning the overall map interface (necessary at least to add in a dropdown selection box) makes me want to also tackle a handful of other updates based upon requests and common problems users have with the map (and also inspired by seeing a Fallout 3 google API map -- which in some ways has more problems than our map, but also adds some features we could benefit from). Basically, there are multiple reasons to reorganize the UI, and I'd rather do it all at once instead of coming up with temporary hacks.
In other words, I'm leaning towards option 3, but as with everything I just can't say when I'll have a chance to do anything. --NepheleTalk 20:33, 3 January 2009 (EST)
I'd been thinking about option 1 but I'd agree that 3 would be best. I guess you mean the Planet Fallout FO3 map. The facility to turn things on and off is quite nice, and the mouseover balloons could be useful (at least, if the comments were more coherent than the ones on that map), but I think they've tried to map too much stuff and evidently don't understand the difference between fixed and random events.
I've extracted the city maps too, so we can eventually get high-res maps for those, but I still have the problem that my copy of the CS doesn't output all the detail on the map map. That means I can't add the city maps, remove the lines and dots, or fix that annoying blank tile. Until I can get my hands on a set of accurate DDSs (or ideally, BMPs) for the map, I'm a bit stuck on that.
While we're looking at this, what do you think about doing the Oblivion Planes maps too? That would pretty much complete the set (I don't see anybody minding if we don't map AnvilCastleCourtyardWorld or BloatedFloatAtSea. –RpehTCE 07:56, 11 January 2009 (EST)

Cold Flame of Agnon[edit]

Could you take a look at that page and see if anything is out of place? An IP edited it several times, and I can't seem to figure out if he replaced everything after he vandalized, or if the guide is messed. Thanks! DaedryonTCE 14:57, 23 December 2008 (EST)

2=[edit]

So you mean add "2=" to the {{Columns|2, for example {{Columns|2= DaedryonTCE 00:48, 26 December 2008 (EST)

No, right after that. So {{Columns|2|2=...}}. --NepheleTalk 00:55, 26 December 2008 (EST)
That's weird. It seems to cancel out the first ":" . See here. DaedryonTCE 01:04, 26 December 2008 (EST)
I took the liberty of making the necessary change directly on your sandbox page. The explanation of why it works gets into even more obscure details of wiki templates -- so hopefully just the fact that it works is enough explanation for now ;) --NepheleTalk 01:25, 26 December 2008 (EST)
Thanks! :D I luff you :D DaedryonTCE 01:26, 26 December 2008 (EST)
