Pronunciation Key[edit]

Hey, I tried to catch ya on the Community Portal page. I know I originally semi-supported this project, but now that I see what it looks like on the page, I'm not so sure. It looks a little distracting, and already there are inconsistencies in the system (Colin should be separated by syllable, Col-lin).

I think you should wait before continuing with the project. It was requested that there be a community consensus about it, and it seems you curently do not have one. Thanks. --Eshe 21:21, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

GOTCHA!!!!!!
I'll take your advice and wait.
         -[[user:Playjex

I have similar concerns - I'm a student of linguistics, myself, and while I think the pronunciation key is a good idea, I do think we should stick to the standards of the IPA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet) when actually inserting pronunciation guides. It doesn't seem like you're familiar with the IPA standard, and since American dictionaries' standards are so varied (regional as well as proprietary), perhaps we should wait until someone who's familiar with the IPA to step up before continuing with the project. --Kementari 18:52, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

We actually decided to go ahead with the project, despite several concerns along a similar line. We're doing the best we can with what little knowledge we have. Thing is, because there are so many ways it can be done, there's no way we're gonna make everyone happy, which is why the wiki format allows anyone to edit anything, including these pronunciations. If you like, I'd agree to looking at the IPA formatting, and I'm sure Playjex would look it over too, and we'll try to follow that as closely as possible. Honestly, I had the same concerns as you at first, but now I realize the wiki can't be perfect, and in fact I hope it never is--then what would I do with my free time? ;). Thanks for the link though, I'll take a look at it before I continue with my part of the project! --Eshe 18:59, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
Hi Playjex. I've been watching your pronunciation project for a while, and while I think it's a great idea, is it really necessary to tell people how to pronounce words like dull and penny? I can think of several different ways of pronouncing 'penniless' off the top of my head, and these come across more as titles than the NPC's actual name. --Saruuk 19:16, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
Eshe and Playjex -- I'd be willing to help out in converting pronunciations to IPA standards after the OPRP is complete, unless someone else steps up. Don't get the wrong idea - I think a pronunciation guide (particularly for some individuals who consistently have their names spelled and pronounced wrong - poor Vicente) is a great idea, but I'm the sort that'd rather see it wait than see it done wrong (especially on a wiki, where it could mislead someone). I'll step in as soon as the OPRP walkthroughs are under control. --Kementari 19:24, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, I kind of agree - giving pronuciations for common English words seems like overkill. For people like Imus the Dull, I'd just give pronunciation for "Imus", and leave the rest. Thus for people whose names consist only of common words like The Gray Fox or The Pale Lady, I'd say a pronunciation guide isn't even necessary at all. --TheRealLurlock Talk 19:48, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
A good point--I felt kind of weird writing out a pronunciation for things like "Black Nail." Again, I plan to look at the IPA page before I continue with my part of the project. If needed, I'll rework the ones I've already done, then move on. Goodness knows I'll fix any others that crop up too, as long as I feel like I have the knowledge to do it. Thanks again for the suggestion. --Eshe 19:58, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
It's taking shape now, but I'm not sure about putting "(not needed)" on people like Hauls-Ropes-Faster. I know why you're doing it, but it looks... odd.
ANOTHER thing that looks odd, is the fact that you don't leave your username. Though, you do have a good point. Hmmmmmmmm--Playjex
It's no biggy Rpeh. I'll change it immediatley. Oh yes, and I was only kidding about not leaving your name. I make alot of those mistakes too. Sincerely, Playjex

Even if you're not going to take the time to follow Kementari's suggestion and learn about IPA, would it at least be possible to try to follow some standards in the pronuncations you're adding? Many of your pronunciations are quite confusing, and are more difficult to figure out than the original words. And it seems like you're just making up a different way of spelling out a sound each time that you see it. Some examples of pronuncations where I don't think the pronuncation matches with how the word is actually pronounced:

  • "S-shyhon-ee" for S'shani. How does "sha" end up being pronounced "shy"-"hon"? Where does the extra syllable come from?
  • "M-aik" for M'aiq: How is "M" pronounced as a syllable all by itself? The construction set's suggested pronunciation is much easier to understand (and has documentation to support it): "Mike"
  • "Mone`t" for Monet: How is "t" pronounced by itself? Especially since the "t" is completely silent. This is a Breton/French word and therefore is not pronounced according to English expectations. Did you actually listen to some of the dialogues in game to hear how the voice actors are pronouncing this name? Or did you just make up a pronunciation by reading the word?

Some examples of pronuncations that are more difficult to understand than the original word:

  • "Fihlcchh" for Filch: is there any reason for adding a "h" before the "l"? Is there any significance to doubling the "c" and doubling the "h"? I definitely don't aspirate a "h" in the middle of this name, or draw out the "ch" at the end, which is being implied by your pronunciation.
  • "Gorhr-go grohw-Sshhyor-uh" for Gorgo gro-Shura: is the "o" in "gro" really pronounced that differently than the "o" in "go"? How is the "hw" in "grohw" even supposed to be pronounced? And "Sshhyor"?? Why are the "s" and "h" being doubled? Where does the "y" come from? I find it much much easier to figure out how to pronounce "shu" than "sshhyor".
  • "Lang-leigh" for Langley: "leigh" is a very awkard prononuncation to provide, especially for non-native English speakers, since the "gh" is not pronounced, and even the "i" doesn't really contribute to the sound.

Some basic standards that I think need to be followed are:

  • Each syllable is separated by a dash. Do not combine two syllables together.
  • The dashes should be located where the syllables actually divide. Generally, syllables will start with a consonant sound, i.e. if there is a consonant between two vowels, normally the consonant should be attached to the second vowel, not the first. So in "pronounce" the syllables are divided "pro-nounce" not "pron-ounce".
  • The pronuncation uses the simplest possible combination of letters that approximates the sound.
  • Extra letters should not be added unless they are sounds that are part of how the word is pronounced. In particular "h" should not be added unless the "h" is somehow pronounced.
  • If a syllable already is spelled with a simple, obvious pronunciation, don't change the spelling just to make it look different than the original.
  • The pronunciations need to be double-checked against how the names are actually being pronounced by the actors. Unless there's at least a bit of research being done to support the pronunciation, the project is not adding any real information.

Right now the pronunciations are not adding any value to the pages, in my opinion. For them to actually be a useful addition requires that some effort is put into making the pronunciations easy to understand, and ensuring that the pronunciations at least match the game's dialogues. You need to do more than what any reader could do for themselves just by looking at the name. --NepheleTalk 12:50, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

Oh goodness. I have a feeling we should not have gone ahead with this in the first place. I tried to do things the way you described just there, but quite frankly, it's rough. Maybe if I looked at the IPA guidelines that would help a little, but I think there's been enough of an uproar over this already that there will continue to be an uproar no matter what we do. I still think the idea of it was kind of cool, but I wonder if it's more trouble than it's worth. --Eshe 14:10, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
I agree. --Playjex

NEED A PROJECT!!!!![edit]

Somebody help!!! I have gone days without doing a project, and I don't know which one to choose!!!! Will someone recruit me on their vast journey of cleanings things up??!! I need work! --Playjex 10:41, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

Editing User Pages[edit]

I think I ought to point out that editing other people's User pages as you recently did with Nephele's is considered almost taboo on the wiki. They're the one set of pages that don't fall under the "anybody can edit anything" philosophy. I recently posted a message on Nephele's talk page about her newly-acquired #1 status so she's definitely aware of it. In future, I suggest you similarly make comments on people's talk pages. --RpehTalk 11:27, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

I apologize. Rpeh, you know how stupid I am sometimes. It was my mistake. I shall first scan the page to see these errors of mine. I will not edit anyother user page, unless it is a grammar error. --Playjex 11:31, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
I'm pretty sure even then you should just mention it on the talk page, if you feel you need to. In a place where everything else is free game, even I have to admit that it's nice to have a spot that's just mine. Trust me, I know it's hard...when I see mistakes on a user page I want to fix it too, but I restrain myself. There's tons of other pages out there that need work! --Eshe 12:22, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
True. very true. I'll keep my hands to my own keyboard, and fix other mistakes.

--Playjex 13:15, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

Vandalism[edit]

Playjex- My apologies to you and anyone that thought my changes to this site was considered malicious. I understand the need to keep people from creating wrongful articles, or making good ones bad. if you could tell me which edit you thought was vandalism so I know what not to do in the future, I would greatly appreciate it. (EDT)Ferocioustick 21:36 8/10/2007 GMT -06:00

I just had to look through Ferocioustick's edits about a dozen times to make sure I wasn't missing something. Because I don't see anything in what Ferocioustick has done that in any way justifies insulting him (her?) as a vandal. Playjex, whether or not you like an edit is never the standard used to decide whether or not an edit is vandalism. An edit must unambiguously be made in bad faith to be called vandalism. If there is any possible doubt, then you should assume that the editor simply is new to the site and is not yet familiar with wiki standards. In this case, the editor was adding relevant content to the article; there was nothing offensive or insulting that would in any way suggest there was bad intent behind the edits. You should also have made a quick check of Ferocioustick's contribution history before jumping to conclusions.
I tried to emphasize some of these points to you previously when you asked on my talk page about "vandal hunting". To directly quote what I said there:
Although some vandalism is easy to identify, there are also cases where apparent vandalism is just an accidental mistake made by a new editor (for example, deleting an entire article can easily be done by mistake). Being overly zealous about dealing with vandalism can end up driving away new editors, so it is best to be very cautious about calling an edit vandalism. Always Assume Good Faith.
I also recommended that you read through the guidelines at UESPWiki:Vandalism. In other words, unlike Ferocioustick, you cannot claim to be ignorant of the site's policies.
I would much rather occasionally welcome vandals to the site, than ever insult new editors by mistakenly calling them vandals; I would also much rather have to clean up a few extra edits by a vandal occasionally than have to take time to apologize to a new editor on behalf of the site. No matter how much you dislike vandals it does not justify being rude to and scaring away legitimate editors. If your stance of being "very strict about vandalism" is leading you to violate the site's policies about vandalism, then I would suggest that you need to re-evaluate your standards and motivations. --NepheleTalk 01:12, 11 August 2007 (EDT)
I do not mean to be rude with this comment at all, but how do you think I was trying to insult him/her?! I apologized, I undid the warning I gave Ferocious, I have no problem with him/her. I Understand your point about having to read the guidelines, but don't you think it's a bit over the mountain to accuse me of purposely insulting him/her? What reason do I have to insult them? I really do NOT mean to be rude by saying all of that, and I relly did NOT try to insult/harrass Ferocious. Ferocius isn't a new editor, for he/she has been apart of this site for over a month. I'm a bit confused right now because I went onto UESP right now only to see that I wasn't logged in. Was I blocked somehow? I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO GET INTO A HUGE OUTRAGE WITH THIS BECAUSE I DID NOT INTENTIANALLY (spelling?) MEAN TO BE RUDE and/or INSULTING. With best regards Playjex 13:13, 11 August 2007 (EDT)
First, no, you have not been blocked in any form. Absolutely nothing has been changed about your account. Please don't go jumping to rash conclusions just because your browser glitched.
Second, most people consider being accused of vandalism an insult, which is precisely why the guidelines recommend to be very cautious about identifying any edit as vandalism, let alone posting a vandalism warning on a user talk page. There are many other, more appropriate ways to go about making suggestions to another legitimate editor on the site.
Finally, I do not see anything in your comments to Ferocioustick that I would interpret as an apology. Any apology would have gone a long way towards helping to improve the situation. --NepheleTalk 13:59, 11 August 2007 (EDT)
Uh...not to stick myself in the middle of something (which is exactly what I'm about to do), but as an outsider to this whole thing, I'd like to make a few observations.
I think mistakes have been made on both sides here. I recommend taking the warning off of Ferocioustick's page entirely, as that REALLY stands out, and I'd be offended as well if someone did something like that to my talk page. That sort of thing should be reserved for major problem-users, not for a casual warning.
On the other side of the coin, knowing you a little bit, Nephele, I realize that your intent was to inform, but reading your comments to Playjex twice, I got two very different impressions of what was being said...the first time it sounded rather demeaning; the second I thought no, it's intended to be informative and just came across wrong. But either way, it too seemed to jump the gun a bit.
All in all, I think when "higher-ups" have disagreements, they should go private whenever possible and leave that sort of thing out of the public space. Of course, that's a little hard when one of you hasn't specified a private e-mail address (hint, hint). :P (Sorry, forgot to sign this last night.) --Robin Hood 12:57, 12 August 2007 (EDT)
I'm really sorry if it seems like there is a conflict here, because at least from my point of view there isn't. My only intention was to make sure that the policy in this situation was understood. Having done that, I thought that this situation was over with. I'm not too sure what else there is that needs to be done. And I'm definitely not trying to somehow hold any of what happened against Playjex. I haven't made any other actions or decisions based on these events, and my apologies if somehow seems like I have.
Furthermore, I did not intend my comments to be demeaning. If what I said was at times strongly worded, the main reason was that I knew I had tried to make some of these points before, and I wanted to be absolutely sure that the key points were not misunderstood this time around. My followup was meant to clarify some points that still seemed to be subject to some confusion. I'm sorry, Plajex, if you felt that my comments were overly harsh. Again, I realize that I emphasized things pretty strongly in my comments but at the time it seemed to me that level of emphasis was necessary given that my previous comments did not seem to have been fully understood.
I'd been assuming that we were all just moving forward and that this issue was resolved and behind us. If, however, there are any other actions that anybody feels I've overlooked, please let me know what they are. --NepheleTalk 00:59, 12 August 2007 (EDT)
I don't want to restart the argument but I feel I ought to say that I agree with Nephele here. I was about to post almost exactly the same message when I saw that she had already done so. Yes the initial message was quite strong but then falsely accusing someone of vandalism is quite a serious matter and I think the tone was entirely justified. As far as keeping these messages private is concerned, I get your point but I disagree. If somebody makes a mistake regularly they ought to be told about it, and doing so publicly means others can benefit too. I've been... let's say chided... a couple of times on my talk page and it's certainly helped me become a better editor. I hope others benefited too. --RpehTalk 00:57, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
I really think that this whole thing has been more of a misunderstanding. I would like to make it clear that Ferocioustick’s edits were not vandalism, and they never should have been marked as such. The edit was made as part of a series, and while it did violate our generally accepted style guidelines by introducing a personal opinion into a wiki article, but that is not vandalism. I have no problem with someone being tough on vandalism, but I’d rather see 100 vandals go unwarned than to warn a legitimate editor for a legitimate edit.
Now, Playjex, I really do suggest that you read through UESPWiki:Vandalism if you haven’t already. When you’re looking for vandalism, look for what the editor intended to do to the article. If there’s any evidence that they were attempting to improve the article, most likely it isn’t vandalism, especially when they’re a repeat editor. --Ratwar 01:55, 12 August 2007 (EDT)
I read you all and clear Ratwar. I am also sorry Nephele (my apology is on your talk page). For now, it seems that everything is lined up into place, but as Ratwar stated " as that REALLY stands out" I really thought that I deleted it from his/her page. I will go double-check. Okay, thank you Nephele for your concern of this problem that I started, and I would also like to thank Ratwar for his concern in this also. This was only a mis-understanding, to me atleast. Thank You for everybody's help, it is HIGHLY appreciated. --Playjex
Actually, it was me that said that it really stands out, but close enough. :) --Robin Hood 12:56, 12 August 2007 (EDT)

Inventory - Really?[edit]

I noticed you've been adding inventory lists to the Morrowind NPC pages. Don't you think that's a bit much? Particularly when you list every article of mundane clothing and armor they're wearing... Personally, I don't think that's really necessary, and it just ends up cluttering the page, besides the fact that it'll be a TON of work to do for every page, without much real benefit. If an NPC is carrying a particularly noteworthy item, sure, it can be listed under the Notes section on their page. But listing every single useless thing they're carrying just seems like overkill. --TheRealLurlock Talk 22:55, 10 August 2007 (EDT)

True very true. I guess I'll stop. --Playjex 23:00, 10 August 2007 (EDT) P.S. Morrowind is awesome....

Images[edit]

May I ask why you're running about tagging every single image as requiring a clean-up? Most of the images look fine the way they are, and aren't excessively large. --Saruuk 02:00, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

I was going to ask the same thing. I'm now using my dodgy work monitor and almost all those images look fine. Please can you use the description facility of the template to provide more details (as you did here for instance. --RpehTalk 03:39, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
Last night I asked Lurlock if any of my images were good, and he said that they were all bad. I'm only going by what Lurlock said, but I do not mean to put him on the spot. --Playjex 09:29, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
They might well be bad - I'd just like to know why you think they are, that's why I'm asking for more information using the facility Lurlock provided in the template. I'm definitely not sure what the problem with the Wretched Aia picture is though. "Too close"? I'm not sure what you mean. I thought that one was a decent "action shot", unlike (say) this or this. --RpehTalk 10:59, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
Oaky, I'll start placing reason next time ;). The reason I put that flag on Wretched Aia was because her face was too close to the screen (in my opinion) and her face is blue. I'll just edit it out. Good Luck with the project --Playjex 11:08, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

"Editors" Story...[edit]

Well, to you, then, I'll reveal the true nature of my plan. You see, I want to make the Editors stories into a fanfiction universe, with writings from any editor on the wiki who wants in. That's the overall dream--to make our community immortal through story and song. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe not. What think you? Somercy 12:12, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Jaw Drops, and Playjex weeps in happiness. YOU'RE NOT CRAZY!!! That is a GREAT idea, I'll join once you have everything planned out. We should go over this with Nephele and and the Biggy Administrators first before you make the "Universe". Well, I don't mean for it to sound like it's my idea, cuz it's not. YOU take all the credit, and I'll just be the guy who likes your idea and will help you get it running. Okay? What is my command officer Somercy? lol --Playjex 12:17, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
And I know Rpeh writes, too. He was the one to get the answer to my first challenge, earning him 1,000 points. Well, well. I think at some point, we need to draw Nephi's attention. And Daveh's, because they're two major characters right now. Most of the characters I'm using, I've gotten permission to use--Lurlock, Robius, Wylliam...Gaebrial and Wars-with-Rats when I add them...but the admins, not so much. Ah, well...knowing Nephi, she's already aware. And Daveh, I'm afraid to ask; I've never talked with the man-in-charge. Thanks for the offer of support! I'll definitely need it! Somercy 12:23, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Heyla, Darling![edit]

I haven't seen you around lately...Anyway, I'm looking through your usedboxes, and the PO'ed one really amuses me. Do you make these on your own? Can you teach me the art? Somercy 09:50, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

Teach you the art? Well, just use the regular userbox formatting code, and type in anything, and it will come up. MAGICAL!!! And sorry I haven't been able to been on lately. I try. --Playjex 18:12, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

Why you were removed from the Mentor Program[edit]

This is a courtesy message to inform you that your user profile has been removed from the list of mentors at UESPWiki:Mentor Program, and also to request that you remove the "Mentor" userbox on your user page. If this userbox is not removed within one week from the date of this notice, an administrator will remove it. Please visit the Mentor Program page to see the new expectations of mentors. If you believe you satisfy the expectations of Mentors, then please contact the user who posted this message. The reason you were removed from the list is: "Mentors are expected to have the email function enabled or to be a regular participant in IRC."

Playjex has now enabled email, so I've restored his entry on UESPWiki:Mentor Program. Playjex, you can go ahead and put the userbox back on your page, too :) --NepheleTalk 12:32, 8 November 2007 (EST)
Oh why thank you so much! I feel like a kid with a brand new bike, well actually, I feel like a kid whose bike got stolen then got it back =]. Thank you very much. And yes, I'm trying to be more active than I usually am. During December I'll be as active as I was in the Summer. Cheers! --Playjex 12:37, 8 November 2007 (EST)

Welcome back[edit]

DF-creature-Rat.gif

You have been given a rat!
Welcome back! (Even though I don't know you!) Have some diseased vermin!
--Timmeh Talk 01:24, 16 December 2007 (EST)

Haha, thank you Timmeh! It's true that I don't even know you either. But thanks for welcoming me back. --Playjex 08:02, 16 December 2007 (EST)

Periods on Figure Captions[edit]

Hi Playjex! Your edits, in particular adding periods to NPC figure captions, have prompted a discussion of whether or not such periods are necessary and/or appropriate. If you'd like to contribute to the discussion, feel free. However, until that discussion is resolved one way or another, would it be possible to refrain from any more edits that consist solely of adding periods to figure captions? Thanks :) --NepheleTalk 12:46, 22 December 2007 (EST)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Nephele. I will most definately take place in this discussion. Thank You. --Playjex 09:46, 23 December 2007 (EST)

In Need of a Mentor[edit]

Playjex, my name is Palos and I'm a new editor. I am a huge Morrowind fan, also with a little experience in Oblivion, but zero editing experience. So I need a mentor. Looking through the different mentors, you seem to be closest to my elder scrolls style. --Palos 04:07, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Well, welcome to UESPwiki! I hope you will enjoy being an editor. So, what did you have in mind that needs help? Have you ever worked with "Wikipedia?" Thanks and good luck! --Playjex 09:48, 23 December 2007 (EST)

Cool, so now I am ready to learn. I have used wikipedia a lot but never edited it. So that's a no. And I'm not really sure what needs help. I'm sorry, I'm not very prepared. But I will help you out with anything. First I'd like to learn some basic editing, maybe starting by learning how to make templates and such on my user page. Also, you said you were listing all of Jabasha's rare books in Morrowind- if there is any project similar to that that you have, like playing the game and obtaining any information, I'm all over it. I play Morrowind GOTY all the time and am ready for any quests you may give me ;) --Palos 19:34, 23 December 2007 (EST)

I know I'm not Playjex, but a good idea would be to try messing around in the Sandbox and get the hang of edits. Maybe open a few pages, look at their code, and see what you can make. Just have some fun with it :D. Welcome to the Wiki btw. --Timmeh Talk 22:17, 23 December 2007 (EST)
Yes, what Timmeh said up ^^. Good Luck. And no, I won't give you any "quests." Just if you find a spelling mistake, correct it. Then you'll get into the more complex things, such as Templates, and Uploading Pictures. Good Luck. Leave me a message on this page if you need help. --Playjex 08:57, 24 December 2007 (EST)

Thankyou[edit]

Thankyou for thanking me for those screenshots. You can remove them from the talk page when the desired one is placed on the appropriate page. Ask me for any more screenshots that are needed and I will supply them within the week.

No problem, just make sure that you leave messages on my talk page haha. --Playjex 22:43, 25 January 2008 (EST)

Template[edit]

Playjex, the finished template is on Rpeh's talk page, but you've seen it already, judging by the generous comment on my Sandbox's talk page! Thanks for the help. What's up with "Golden Penny Racers" anyway? Seems rather odd, but then giving someone a Moonwalk is no better... --HMSVictory 11:38, 13 February 2008 (EST)

Haha, well in reality I hate penny racers. I meant to make it odd, but not an insult. If you put a penny in it, it doesnt go straight, it curves off the table. Good Job! --Playjex 13:31, 13 February 2008 (EST)

Fanfiction[edit]

Hi Playjex! I just corrected the grammar and formatting on your Egg Rolls? fanfiction. Just so you know, I didn't change the content of your story; I just fixed the typos and grammar. If you don't like any of the changes, go ahead and change it back.

P.S. Eggrolls appears to be one word and not two.

--Michaeldsuarez (talk· contribs· email) 22:59, 29 February 2008 (EST)

Argh. I apologize for sounding angered. It's not because you changed anything. I'm fine with that (and thanks for it ;)). It's just I FIXED EVERYTHING ON IT, and I saved, then in the middle of the save the "New msgs" msg came up and I accidently clicked on it, and my hour's worth of editing was deleted haha. I'm stupid. thanks anyway dude! Keep it up! See ya. --Playjex 23:07, 29 February 2008 (EST)
Oops. Sorry for that. Thanks! Michaeldsuarez (talk· contribs· email) 23:16, 29 February 2008 (EST)

Thanks for the Welcome[edit]

Did you by any chance send a message to 89.242.254.75, welcoming them? That was me. How did you send the message?

Haha, yes that was me. I saw that you were an editing machine, so I welcomed you. Here is how you do it: (click the link) Welcome Messgage. I personalized (spelled it right) it a little bit. Keep your good edits goin! --Playjex 11:43, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Thanks for welcoming me![edit]

Hey, er, I'm kinda new to this whole thing, so if I'm not supposed to post things like this here, I'll gladly edit it out. I've got a pretty good knowledge of Oblivion, so if I see anything that I feel needs to be updated a little, I'll try to edit it and make it so that it's as up to date as possible.

Once again, I'd just like to say thanks for welcoming me, and hopefully I'll speak to you again soon :)

Haha, wow. My 2nd "Thanks for Welcoming me" msg. Anytime. Have fun editing. I guess I'm the town crier! Good luck, and enjoy! --Playjex 22:58, 1 March 2008 (EST) P.S. -- Yes, you put this in the correct spot ;)

Just a few queries...[edit]

Ah, so I assume it's okay for me to talk to you here then? That's okay. Got a little confused is all.

Also, I've added to the Mehrunes Dagon article, stating that if you attack him with a weapon, it will stun him for a short period of time. This wasn't included, and I know a few people who have got confused with thinking they are hurting him by doing this, so I thought I better indicate it.

Also, I edited "The Unfortunate Shopkeeper" article a little aswell. I tried your Frenzy tip not too long ago, and it worked, but he started attacking citizens instead of his comrades, so I thought maybe that would be important to state aswell.

Again, if you think these are too useless / minor, I'll go ahead and remove them.

Thanks ALOT for being so helpful :)

P.S - In one of your messages up there you'd made two spelling mistakes. I just corrected them for you :)

Thanks for correcting me. Thank you SOOOO much for being so respective to me. It is HIGHLY appreciated. Hehe, and oh yes, I didn't give you a frenzy tip, maybe it was another editor. But thanks anyway bud. Keep editing, and HAVE FUN! --Playjex 23:11, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Your welcome! :D[edit]

You're very welcome for my respect. I'm just a little confused and it's nice to have someone who's understanding. Perhaps you would like to chat on "My talk" sometime? Mine is rather baron at the moment :P

Also, what I ment when I said you gave me the frenzy tip is the website's info. I just said yours because you're a big part of the website's functioning.

Also, don't thank me for something so silly as correcting a few spelling mistakes. Typos annoy me anyway :P It HAD to be done XD

Have I got the hang of it?[edit]

So, I tried doing what you said. Using the colon, etc. and putting the signature. Is this right now?

--Southsam 23:30, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Yes sir. --Playjex 23:32, 1 March 2008 (EST)
That's alright then. Oh, also, where would I go about putting Poetry?

--Southsam 23:28, 1 March 2008 (EST)

You can put poetry here. I put a story there called "Egg Rolls?" the other day. I wrote it years back though. Check it out one day. --Playjex 23:39, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Just to say thanks...[edit]

Thanks again for all the information you gave me earlier :) It's really helped me to get to grips with the site much easier.

Stop by my talk sometime, It'd be nice to have a chat with you :)

--Southsam 07:14, 2 March 2008 (EST)

No problem dude. --Playjex 08:46, 2 March 2008 (EST)

You any good with Mages?[edit]

Hey again Play.

Well, I've looked around the site for information regarding a mage, and it's great and all, but I really don't know what to DRESS my Mage in. At the moment I'm considering getting some robes and just enchanting the full robe set with Shield Enchantments, but I was wondering if maybe you could help me out a little?

(By the way, I'm requesting help for TES IV: Oblivion)

All help is really appreciated, thanks matey :)

--Southsam 13:12, 2 March 2008 (EST)

Sure I'll Help! Okay, I bought my Mage the "White Mages Robes" at "Rindir's Staffs" in the Market District of the Imperial City. And for advice on being a pure Mage, check this out. Oh yeah, and sorry for not responding quicker. My computer was running slow and wouldn't save my reply before. Good Luck! --Playjex 21:41, 2 March 2008 (EST)
Ah, I see. Well, firstly, after posting this last night I headed to Vilverin, and killed the Necromancer in there. Do you think they would be any good? I wouldn't mind being a Necromancer, my only concern is making a character who is decent at fighting with Magic.

Secondly, I don't see how that page helps? It's all about Roleplaying? I need to know what weapons and armour to use, not how to look like a Mage. XD

Maybe I didn't put it forward correctly, but that's what I ment ^

--Southsam 15:52, 3 March 2008 (EST)

Oh I'm sorry. Okay, Mages Never wear armor unless you are a Battlemage. Mages always where robes. Mages only use spells, and carry a side-arm (such as a dagger) just in case their Magicka runs out. Mages are always respectful to other Mages, and do not harm the innocent. That's the best I have to say; I never play with Mages, so I don't really know that much about them. But if you already created him/her, what are their major skills? Thanks. --Playjex 14:24, 6 March 2008 (EST)

Read[edit]

Know this, Pley Ploy Playjex. I am on Youtube. There, I am NOT Dagoth Ur, Mad God. I am Umbra611. Here the link. Dagoth Ur, Mad God (talk· contribs· email)

Fanfiction Opportunity[edit]

Playjex, as one of editors of this site who I feel deserves this opportunity, I am offering you a chance to have a character request in my new Fancfiction project, Rise and Fall (details here) I am only offering this to a few users, and you have been selected! (how corny was that?) Anyway, if you would like me to add your character idea to the story, just let me know. I'm currently in the planning stages, so there's plenty of time. --HMSVictoryTalk 12:23, 20 April 2008 (EDT)

Haha, sure. Make the character Jex, a 6 foot tall Bosmer (Wood Elf), who comes out of his house for short periods of time, then goes in for several months for personal reasons. Maybe someone can enter the house and find a bunch of drawings (cuz I'm a Graphic Designer teehee). that's only an idea. Make him mysterious, and have bad spelling. Sorry, I'm just trying to base this off of myself haha. Thanks for choosing me, even though I've been inactive for a while. Thanks. --Playjex 13:18, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
No problem. The project is on hold untill I have responses from everyone I picked (about five other editors). I'll have some presentable work up by mid-May at the very latest. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:20, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Right, the start of the first chapter is up, and can be read here. Can you tell me how accurate the description of Jex is? If it's wrong in any way, I'll gladly correct it for you. --HMSVictoryTalk 11:38, 20 May 2008 (EDT)
Oh, it's marvelous. Though, only slight changes I request without being a pain. Could you please just add that he has a scar under his left eye, from unknown reasons, that he is weirdly taller than other Bosmers, and also has dark brown hair, usually mistaken as black hair. That's it! Keep it up, and thanks for selecting me. I'd buy this book so far.

--Playjex 14:55, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for that. I'll edit it now. Unfortunately, because the project is so large, and there are so many other characters to include, we won't be seing Jex again after Awakening is finished until I write Traitor General which will involve a congregation of all the characters in a climatic finale. Thanks for the feedback, anyway! --HMSVictoryTalk 14:59, 20 May 2008 (EDT)
WOO! I can't wait for Traitor General! Thanks a lot! --Playjex 18:26, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

Fanfiction[edit]

Hey, we've been reformating the fanfiction pages and moving them from the General namespace to Userspace. I was wondering if you could update the links on your User page for us (We don't like to mess with user pages without permission). Specifically, the following links need to be changed:

General:Egg Rolls? -> User:Playjex/Egg Rolls?

Thanks.--Ratwar 14:19, 5 July 2008 (EDT)

Yes sir, I'll try. It's been awhile since I've done this. --Playjex 10:10, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Do you mean changing the link on the "Fan Fiction" section of my page from User:Playjex/Egg Rolls? to User:Playjex/Egg Rolls??. And just in case, you're allowed to edit my userpage for reformating reasons of any sort. Thanks. --Playjex 10:17, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
As Ratwar said:
General:Egg Rolls? -> User:Playjex/Egg Rolls?
So the full link would change from [[General:Egg Rolls?|Egg Rolls?]] to [[User:Playjex/Egg Rolls?|Egg Rolls?]]. --NepheleTalk 10:43, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
Okay, thanks. Done. --Playjex 01:45, 18 July 2008 (EDT)
I've made a few edits to this page to relink to the correct versions. Please ask if you have any questions. –RpehTCE 13:25, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Maiq wishes he had a stick made out of fishies to give to you. Sadly, he does not.

A Plate for You[edit]

You have been given a plateful of cookies!

Thanks for the all the effort you put in to clean up the recent vandalism. It seems there's somebody with deep emotional problems out there –RpehTCE 00:49, 1 February 2009 (EST)

Thanks! I'm just glad I had this in my mind "Hmmm, I haven't logged onto UESP in awhile, let's see what's new!" That was all quite frustrating though. Thanks both of you! --Playjex 08:48, 1 February 2009 (EST)

Welcome back[edit]

Hi, Playjex! Good to see you around the site again.

However, could I just remind you about this discussion you started asking for feedback on whether to welcome editors who are using anonymous IP addresses? I still don't think it's generally a good idea. If anything, I'm more opposed to it than previously -- in part because over the last few months we have had one or more trolls/vandals who have repeatedly used IP addresses to edit the site (via open proxies). The edits made by these editors are often not obvious vandalism (especially if you're unfamiliar with recent patterns), for example, this edit, therefore it would be very easy for you to mistakenly give a welcome message to someone who most definitely is not welcome to edit the site. Furthermore, these problems have led us to be more proactive about immediately blocking open proxies (as discussed here) -- but blocking the account would be far more awkward and hypocritical if the editor has just been welcomed and told that he/she should "feel free" to edit. In short, adding welcome messages indiscriminately for anonymous editors is even more likely to cause problems than in the past, so I'd really recommend against doing it.

Also, on an unrelated topic, we've been trying to get rid of pointless sentences like this, and get rid of other awkward elements of NPC pages, such as unnecessarily stating that every NPC is male or female. You may want to look over some of the related discussion, for example Gender on NPC Pages and the Oblivion NPC Redesign Project. --NepheleTalk 18:09, 14 April 2009 (EDT)

Thank you for the welcome message! I see your points on not welcoming users anymore. I won't anymore. The only reason I welcomed that one user was because he/she seemed to be editing in the "good" way. I feel old, I've been inactive for awhile and didn't realize you were trying to get rid of those sentences. I thought the site wanted them. Should I capitalize the class name? I'll check out those pages. Thanks Neph. --Playjex 20:49, 14 April 2009 (EDT)

Sorry[edit]

Sincerely, my apologies for vandalizing your page a while back. =)

Hehe thanks. --Playjex 18:25, 2 June 2009 (EDT)

Why you were removed from the Mentor Program[edit]

This is a courtesy message to inform you that your user profile has been removed from the list of mentors at UESPWiki:Mentor Program, and also to request that you remove the "Mentor" userbox on your user page, if applicable. If this userbox is not removed within one week from the date of this notice, an administrator will remove it. Please visit the Mentor Program page to see the expectations of mentors. If you believe you satisfy the expectations of Mentors, then please contact the user who posted this message. The reason you were removed from the list is: "Mentors are expected to be active on UESPWiki within the last three months." --GKTalk2me 06:06, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Wow, I haven't been active on the site in a LONG time! So, if I start editing again, I will be placed back into the program? Thanks. --Playjex 19:54, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
If you return to editing on a regular basis, then sure, go ahead and become a mentor again. In the meantime, would you mind removing the userbox? It's only that we want to make the Mentor Program as useful as possible, and ensure that an editor looking for a mentor would find someone active and able to assist. --GKTalk2me 23:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Spam[edit]

I know it's your userpage, but using it for commercial purposes is not allowed. Since you've got a long editing history here I'm not going to warn you, but if you repeat that kind of edit a warning is the very least you can expect. rpeh •TCE 18:54, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Rpeh, I truly do apologize. I must also add that I was planning to immediately remove this "spam" within a couple hours. As this was part of a contest, I had to take a screenshot of that banner on a website. I did, I will now remove it and hope that I will never have to do such a thing again. As before stated, I truly do apologize and hope you can see I meant no harm. --Playjex 03:28, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
