Hoar Father page[edit]

Hi, I was just curious to know : why did you changed the missing words I added to one of the quote ? I mean, they are verified just like other words. Is there a specific site to give as source ? Kahvozein (talk) 00:54, 30 March 2020 (GMT)

Where/how did you verify them? We don't have anything on the wiki that points to a translation for those words, so I assumed it was speculation. If there's an in-game text or official translation somewhere, that's what we're looking for. If you just got the translation off the web or from another wiki, that's not sufficient unless they're citing a reliable source themselves. If they are verifiable, then by all means, we can put them back on the page, though. We just want to be sure. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 02:11, 30 March 2020 (GMT)
Is the "Prima Games Official Game Guide: Skyrim Legendary Edition" a sufficient source? It contains a lot of official word translations that could help enhancing the site.— Unsigned comment by Kahvozein (talkcontribs) at 22:54 on 30 March 2020
Yes, the official Prima Guides are sufficient. There are still several places on the site where pages can be updated with information from there. However, you should still source sentences where information from the guides is used. --Ilaro (talk) 23:08, 30 March 2020 (GMT)

Question[edit]

Hello!

Just wondering, when I add the user to an unsigned comment, do I mark it as a minor edit? Werewolfvampirre  (talk)

If that's all you're doing, then yeah, that would be minor. If you're actually replying to a comment, then I'd consider it a normal edit. It's not a big deal if you get it wrong either way, though. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:30, 9 May 2020 (GMT)
Thanks! Werewolfvampirre  (talk)

Effect Cell Mechanic[edit]

Hello,

I'm working to help add/update pages for the new alchemy reagents and runes, and their effects that were released with the Greymoor chapter. Could you help me understand why, after creating what I believe to be a properly formatted stub article on the Timidity effect, does the reagent list on https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Alchemy_Ingredients#Reagents not display the appropriate color for an offensive effect (red) nor the ON-icon-effect-Alchemy-Lower_Spell_Resist.png icon for the Timidity effect?

Thank you,

-Nate

It appears to be working now. It may have just taken a while for the wiki to catch up to what you'd done. There can be a couple of reasons for this, but typically, purging the Alchemy Ingredients page would cause it to refresh properly. If you're not familiar with purging a page, you can do it either using a gadget (see the Gadgets page in your preferences, or by editing the page and then changing the action=edit to action=purge. Dragonborn page protection broke mod icon?[edit]

Hello!

I noticed that after the Skyrim: Dragonborn page was semi-protected, the mod icon in the header now appears to be broken somehow, at least for me. It now shows up as this icon instead of what it should. Not sure if the page protection broke the header somehow or if it's just a weird problem on my end, but I thought I'd point it out anyway. — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:03, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

That appears to have been temporary, or possibly someone purged the page to fix it. Either way, it's good now. The utility we're using to save page data like that was written back around MW 1.10 and updated as needed since then, but it could really use an overhaul to fix these sorts of issues. In the meantime, the best we can do is purge the page and see if things get fixed. If not, then it's likely a template issue or something. Robin Hood(talk) 22:10, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Actually, I just figured it out and fixed it. The Protected template was added after the Mod Header template and that was breaking the icon. I moved the Protected template to the beginning of the page and that seems to have fixed the issue. Unfortunately that idea occurred to me two minutes after I posted here. Anyway, it's all good now, thanks. — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:15, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Hmmm...in that case, that's something I'll want to take a look at to see what's going on there. Thanks for the info! Robin Hood(talk) 22:20, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Hmmm... this gets stranger... I just tried moving the Protection template back to its old position, and a Page Preview came up perfectly okay for me. Not sure what the heck happened there now. I think I'll just leave this here and stop trying to figure it out... — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:31, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
My first guess was correct, it was indeed the add-on that saves data that was the issue. It had been worked around previously and documented in the Mod Header docs, but apparently, I never fixed it on that page (or it got reverted at some point if I did). I'll have to see if there are any other instances like that. Robin Hood(talk) 22:34, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for figuring it out and clarifying! — Wolfborn(Howl) 22:36, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

New template[edit]

Hey, I've been doing some work on the Tes5Mod:Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil namespace and wanted to ask a favour. Similarly to TR, which has Tamriel Data, Beyond Skyrim has BSAssets. I wanted to start add some stuff in that namespace too and wondered if we could create a new template akin to ? Ideally I'd like XYZ being a link to Tes5Mod: Beyond Skyrim: BSAssets/XYZ (I'd like to keep for the Atmora release). Is this something you could help with? Thanks! --SerCenKing (talk) 20:24, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

That shouldn't be a problem. I'll have a look at it later tonight. Robin Hood(talk) 23:51, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
All done! Let me know if there are any issues. Robin Hood(talk) 00:34, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Looks perfect, thank you very much! --SerCenKing (talk) 20:00, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Another Broken Mod Header Icon[edit]

Hi Robin

I noticed that the Mod Header icon for the Markarth DLC is not displaying properly; it shows this: instead of the icon (as seen on this page, for example). I can't for the life of me figure out how or where to fix this, so I thought I'd give you a heads-up. — Wolfborn(Howl) 00:33, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

I've fixed the template to not spit out code. As for the icon itself, it needs to go in between the two bars in on the redirect page. Robin Hood(talk) 01:11, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. This template stuff is still mostly Greek to me, but I think I sorta kinda see what's going on here. Cheers! — Wolfborn(Howl) 02:21, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
LOL, it was to me too for the first several years I was here. Then, one day, I just kind of decided "Okay, I need to learn this." The basics were surprisingly easy, but counting the number of curly brackets is maddening to this day! Robin Hood(talk) 02:28, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello sir[edit]

Now that you are over 50 I should call you sir, hopefully you remember me :/ after all these years I'm back, kind of. Nostalgia drove me to play TES 4 and some 5, better yet, to come back to editing this pretty place, get ready to clean after my mess ;) How are you? hopefully well awaiting your reply--Wizy (talk) 04:23, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

Wow, now there's a name I haven't seen in a long time! I'm not doing all that great, tbh...a lot of health issues. Setting those aside, though, I suppose things are well enough. How have you been? Hope you're enjoying TES 4 and 5! Robin Hood(talk) 05:23, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
Sorry to hear, I was really hoping your health would be better now, I have been very good, I left because I didn't have the time. As for the games I'm so rusty I can't play them on max difficulty anymore, I'm shamefully playing them on medium difficulty this time around and.. still dying alot. :P glad to see you are still rocking this site. Item Data Template[edit]

Hey, I've been working on some Beyond Skyrim items pages and wanted to use the Item Data template in some tables. I've come across a small issue though: is there any way to overwrite the template's default of linking to Skyrim pages? For one item, the tempering is by using a new ingot added by the mod, but the template won't accept the link (see here). Any ideas? Thanks! --SerCenKing (talk) 15:37, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Okay, done. It works exactly the way you did it in the second example. Let me know if you need anything else! Robin Hood(talk) 20:25, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Ah brilliant, thank you so much! --SerCenKing (talk) 14:09, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Account Creation[edit]

I’m having trouble creating an account. It repeatedly didn’t accept user names or information then eventually it gave me a error message saying my IP address had already created an account and a second could not be created in 24 hours. However I have no access through log in and did not receive any emails stating one was created. What can I do to get an account activated at those point? My email is Rodney.Hurtig@gmail.com

This seems to happen on rare occasions to some users, but we're not sure why, since most users have no issues at all. Just let me know what account name you'd like and I can get it set up for you. (Or, if I'm not around, any other wiki admin can help you. Most of them can be found on our Discord, if you want to speed the process right along.) Robin Hood(talk) 03:27, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Apology[edit]

Hi Rob! I notice you added your signature to a recent CP post which I had tagged as unsigned. I hope I didn't offend you or break an unwritten rule by doing so--I must admit it felt weird to be adding an unsigned tag to one of your posts. If I did cause offence I apologize--I didn't mean to do so or to step on any toes. If there's a different procedure for informing admins that they forgot to sign a post, please let me know. Thanks! — Wolfborn(Howl) 01:48, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

No, not offended at all...more embarrassed. You did exactly what you're supposed to do. That's why the template is there, and while it's unusual for long-time members to forget to sign a post, it happens. Some will leave the template in place, others won't. I'm in the latter group, so once you'd pointed out that it was unsigned, I just updated the signature. Your other option would've been to ping me on Discord and let me know I goofed, but in this case, it wouldn't have done you any good, as I wasn't around at the time anyway. Either is perfectly fine. Robin Hood(talk) 02:00, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Floating a suggestion[edit]

I'm working with the template

Showhide

So naturally I thought of you.

Some examples of possible values the button's float parameter would be helpful.
Known

float = right (the [show/hide] button floats as far to the right as it can. Current default.)

Unknown

float = left (I can see no difference - does header text erase it?)
float = center (I can see no difference - does header text overwrite it?)
float = adjacent (does not exist? - button would immediately follow the text of header)
float = below-left (does not exist? - button follows text of header on a new line below, prior to but not necessarily above content)
float = adjacent:Read/Done (does not exist? - a way of changing the button's text)
float = adjacent:Tell_Me/Got_It (does not exist? - again a reason to change the button's text)

I've tried Nephele's suggested link, and I get:

"Wikipedia does not have a template with this exact name."
Our site does not support the Wikipedia.org template I did find
Hidden begin XXXX Hidden end

I'm sorry, but I don't know the app or code used to make Templates or I would attempt to change it myself.

I'm hoping for a reply like: "Hey Kal, try this [link] for method and coding."
Or easier for me: "Here's a list of possible values, good luck."
Or easier for both: "Here's a link to possible values."
Or best for everybody: "We now support the template: Hidden"

Kalevala (talk) 15:35, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia probably moved their template, so the link is now broken. I've added some basic documentation and pointed at where to find more information. The short of it is that all those values correspond to CSS properties. For some of them, documenting the full set of values would be beyond the scope of the template itself. I'm hesitant to link to a specific site for CSS documentation, as links tend to break, but I think what's there now should cover the most common needs. Robin Hood(talk) 16:26, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! Kalevala (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Gallery is OK, I'm not.[edit]

RH, I am so sorry. I had a major brain fart. Let me trace it. I went to

Category:Map_Images
Category:Skyrim-Map_Images
Category:Skyrim-Map Images-Interior

on which there were 192 images. Something seemed wrong. There should be more with just under 680 interior pages, I went to:

UESPWiki:Skyrim Map Design#Interior Maps Status Report and opened up the Interior Maps Cells List [show]

I transfered it to a spreadsheet and got a count of 195. Where was the discrepency? I concatenated a list of URLs for the 678 pages. Then I wrote a Visual Basic routine to check each URL for validity. I noticed that page for Kagrumez wasn't in

Category:Skyrim-Map Images-Interior

But the URL was valid. The page is old enough, but when I pulled up the page, there was no ==Maps== section. So I began searching for others, but somewhere along the line I confused: UESPWiki:Skyrim Map Design#Interior Maps Status Report with being the category rather than dependent upon the category. My bad, I'll revert them to <Gallery>. The real culprit was omitting the ==Maps== section.

Again, my apologies. Kalevala (talk) 03:47, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries! BTW, normally if someone messages you on your talk page, you should respond there, to keep the conversation together. The assumption is generally that they'll be watching for any replies. Robin Hood(talk) 03:50, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Is this worth pursuing?[edit]

I actually use the following code to place pogs on a map, I was wondering if this or something like it would fit onto UESP? I would like to share it, but if there is something taboo, I won't press the matter. What do you think?

This relies on Javascript to put the pogs on the map, so while it would work for most, it wouldn't work for everyone. Given that we already have templates that do the same thing, even if not very efficiently, it's probably best to just continue using those. Robin Hood(talk) 04:00, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Appreciate your insights.
Ok! And thanks for the quick feed back!
Sorry, didn't mean to make a new section. Kalevala (talk) 04:13, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Template temperance[edit]

At the risk of becoming a nuisance:

I went exploring into the Template: name space. Wow, there are 2,263 templates as of today: May 20, 2021. This year, if it continues, will see a total of nearly 900 templates, and will approximate 1/3 of all templates ever produced. It is not an exaggeration to say the template growth is currently on an exponential scale.

Then the sad news, I went to some of templates and there is virtually no documentation as to what they do or how they might be used. The contrast is stark when you look at the Template: NewRight with its explanation, parameter listing and examples from 2009, and also from 2009 the Template:Chart/cell!b which offers no information nor is there much of a hint in its name as to how it might be used.

Perhaps we need a template saying something to the effect that "This template lacks documentation and may be removed unless the editors using it offer some documentation or can point to instances of its use." Of course, I would prefer they provide some documentation, but implementing such a template would be a policy decision above my pay grade.

Let me add that I am thankful for Help: Templates page, but this proliferation of templates may warrant a review of this page with an eye toward what really useful new templates ought to be added (if any.) This is the basic problem with any large aggregation of data, how does one find what is really meaningful.

Thanks! Kalevala (talk) 00:15, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Most of the templates that don't have documentation are actually subtemplates (which you can tell, for the most part, because they have a slash in the name, just like any other subpage). Template:Chart/cell!b, for example, is part of the Chart template, which has over a hundred different subtemplates for the various permutations of lines. It would be redundant to document them all. A better way to tell which templates need documentation is to use the Wanted Templates page. The ones ending in /Doc are the ones that need documentation. As you can see, there are only three of them (at least as of when I wrote this). The one limitation to that page is that if a template doesn't transclude a documentation page at all, it won't show up there. Take Skyrim Settlements, for example. It has no documentation. But then again, it hardly needs it; it's obvious what it does. I suspect the same can be said about most, maybe even all, other templates that don't specifically transclude documentation pages. If you do find one or more templates that are non-obvious and where the base template isn't documented, feel free to post about it in the #wiki_technical channel on Discord, or you can always post to the talk page of whomever seems to be the most active editor for the template on its history page. If that person isn't around anymore, let me know and I'll look into it. Robin Hood(talk) 00:55, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Just FYI, a quick check of our database says that there are 1164 base templates, out of which 649 of them have explicit documentation. About 140 or so are navboxes which I assume don't have/need documentation. I have no easy way to tell what the rest would be, but it sounds like we're not doing too badly. (edit: list, if you're curious) Robin Hood(talk) 01:16, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Looks like I have some of work to do! LOL Thanks for the list. Kalevala (talk) 03:26, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
The documentation changes to the chart subpages broke charts across the wiki. I've reverted for now. If you are adding documentation to templates, please be sure to follow how it is done on other templates by placing it on a doc subpage (e.g. <noinclude></noinclude>). —Legoless (talk) 10:46, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
I am sorry to have broken things, thanks for the reversions! There is another part of me that wonders; shouldn't really important templates such as this be protected from the likes of me? Something along the lines of "This page is currently protected so that only template editors and administrators can edit it." followed by your /Doc subpage advice on documentation edits? It would be great to have such a template to defend important templates. Again, my apologies. Kalevala (talk) 20:16, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
We do indeed have that ability and a template to indicate it, but page protection has to be done manually by an administrator, so we tend to reserve it for only the templates that are used on thousands of pages. Chart didn't used to be popular enough to qualify, though it's possible that that's changed, since I believe some of the popular ESO templates use it. We do have to periodically re-evaluate what's popular and what's not. (TBH, I hope Chart isn't that popular yet, cuz I don't fancy manually protecting 100+ subpages.) Robin Hood(talk) 22:05, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

() Forgot to follow up on this earlier, but I went through our top 100 templates earlier and protected any that didn't already have it. Chart didn't come close to that, though it's still used on a couple of hundred pages, most of them in Online space, which is why it was noticed so quickly.

As for documenting subtemplates, I don't think it's really necessary. The Template Subpages category pretty much tags any of those as being what they are, and any necessary documentation will be on the main template page. If you want to look through the list to see if there's anything there that needs documenting, though, we'd definitely welcome that. Even if you do nothing more than pruning out the obvious navboxes and messages that don't take parameters and therefore don't need documentation, that would be a huge help in itself. You're welcome to edit my sandbox to get rid of those entries, if you feel up to doing that. Robin Hood(talk) 06:10, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Subpages always have a basic breadcrumb to the main page unless overwritten, so anyone who stumbles upon a subtemplate should be able to navigate to the main template to hopefully get a vague idea of what its purpose is. Additionally, I'm of the opinion that Doc pages should list its ancillary subtemplates, which I've done with my own template documentation (e.g. Template:Blades Creature Table). I don't, however, see much use in subtemplate documentation. Most subtemplates serve a very technical purpose to their main templates and are not intended to be called like normal templates. The standards we have for normal template documentation exist to serve the editor who may use it, i.e. informing on the parameters and the template's intended usage. Anyone who is looking for the more technical information can/should crack open the template code via "edit". I do not think there is a sizeable population of people somewhere between "editor" and "templater" who would benefit from that kind of documentation. However, my previous navigability suggestion would be a great improvement to at least display where a user could go to dig deeper. Dcsg (talk) 06:42, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Category:Template Documentation (not working correctly)[edit]

Go to Category:Template Documentation. A, B, C, seem to be correct but D has things from all over the alphabet. Then if you click next it begins at D with the first entry "Artifact Summary". If you click it again, it throws up the exact same non- alphabetic list and you make no progress into the 651 entries.

I looked at the <catpagetemplate> and I could make some sense of parts of it, but concluded that correcting it was beyond my current skills. You were listed in History as the most recent editor so I thought I would alert you. Kalevala (talk) 19:42, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Here was my attempt to break up the code and look at it logically. Any mentoring comment would be appreciated. Kalevala (talk) 20:54, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Catpagetemplate is useful for formatting, but I don't believe it's able to do anything to the sort order. To be sure, I temporarily stripped the catpagetemplate altogether to see if that had anything to do with this or not. It doesn't.
Oddly enough, this appears to be MediaWiki's fault. Their documentation clearly states in several places that default category sorting is based on the page name without the namespace. Testing it a little more deeply, however, it seems like it's based on the sub-pagename. This means that most of our /Doc pages get sorted as just "Doc", thus putting everything under D. I've been removing the sortkeys when they matched what I thought the default was for ages now, and I apparently never checked that this was actually the case. I want to confirm that what I'm observing is actually correct, but once I've done that, I'll probably run a bot job to fix the various Category:Template Documentation calls so that they sort as expected. Robin Hood(talk) 22:08, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
Apparently, this is back to being our fault. UespCustomCode—one of the site's extensions with (as you might imagine) a lot of custom code for our site—implements a customized DEFAULTSORT that's based on subpages. I would assume that this is for the various mod-spaces, so for now, I've disabled the customized sorting outside of gamespace. That seems to be working as expected (meaning MW's docs are correct as written). Robin Hood(talk) 22:36, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

HoodBot[edit]

So I know nothing about how this works but when does it make pages, namely, when will it make the Set pages for Waking Flame? Oath2order (talk) 01:14, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

I have to run it on my end. I usually wait until someone bugs me about it, cuz I don't pay close attention to ESO and even though Dave posts updates, I like to give it a little time in case anything goes wrong. Some of the ESO jobs require checking and a little work beforehand, so I'll see if I can get to them later tonight or tomorrow. Robin Hood(talk) 02:10, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Dope, thanks. Oath2order (talk) 02:25, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Okay, everything should be available now. Robin Hood(talk) 22:56, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi, sorry to bother again. Bot seems to have missed Pillager’s Profit, Perfected Pillager’s Profit, and Steadfast’s Mettle. Oath2order (talk) 01:10, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
I haven't had the chance to run the bot lately. It needs a few updates, so I'll make a point of checking out those pages when I get back to the ESO stuff. Robin Hood(talk) 01:25, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism?[edit]

Hi - I just noticed you'd reverted an "inappropriate comment" on my talk page way back on 8 August 2021, without further details available. I'm curious: since I've been fairly active with location and other page edits over the past couple years, were there any specific related questions/concerns raised by the user as part of the reverted comment, or was the comment solely another attempt by a rando oddball to deface the wiki (as I've seen occasionally, and as I suspect)? Thanks for all your work! - Mikeprichard (talk) 08:10, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

I just checked and it was an IP user disparaging the site as a whole. They made reference to your edit, here, but what they thought was wrong about it, they didn't say. Robin Hood(talk) 14:47, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

About Creation Club content[edit]

Hey man! I find that locations added to the map as undiscovered by the Creation Club is features, not bugs. I already changed one to reflect what I think. I personally think they were intentionally left by the developers. So I think they are features, but I may be wrong. I am editing in good faith. Cody9867 (talk) 16:49, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

I'm not the one who added that, so it's not me you need to talk to. :) I can see why someone would call it a bug, especially since most or all creations now have a specific start-up event that triggers them. That's the point at which I would expect a map marker to appear. I'm pretty sure it's not the only one to show up on your map right from the start, though. If I recall, Hendraheim does that as well. So, it could go either way, really. And you don't need to worry about whether people think you're editing in good faith. We always try to assume that. Robin Hood(talk) 19:04, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

Broken Redirect[edit]

Hi Rob! I was just looking at the Broken Redirects page and noticed that Template:Mod Icon Data/Doc redirects to Template:Mod Data/Doc which you deleted about a week ago. Presumably this redirect can be deleted as well, since it now points to a non-existent page. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up. Cheers! — Wolfborn(Howl) 09:13, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Deleted. Thanks for letting me know! Robin Hood(talk) 10:41, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Undo[edit]

Why'd you undo my comment on my nomination? From what I can tell, comments from nominees seem to be allowed, I was using the precedent of Tyrvarion's recent nomination where he left a comment. I feel as though mentioning that I have, indeed, technically been editing since two years ago is helpful to my nomination. Overall though I'm not mad in any way, just curious so that I don't make the same mistake again, if there is one. Mindtrait0r (talk) 13:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Sorry about that. It was completely unintentional. Probably an accidental click that I never even noticed. Robin Hood(talk) 20:17, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
I just looked at it a little more closely to figure out what I'd done wrong. It's clearly a case of hitting the "rollback" button, which is (unfortunately) a one-click button that admins have, intended to revert bulk spam. You can tell that that's the case because there's no reasoning provided, which I definitely would have done had I been reverting deliberately. Given the timing of it, my guess is that I clicked on it accidentally while moving my mouse/keyboard around just before bed, which is why it took so long for me to realize my error. Sorry once again! Robin Hood(talk) 20:26, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
No problem! I'm sure it happens every now and again, one-click and all. Thanks for addressing it and keep up the good work! Mindtrait0r (talk) 21:02, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

One-Eye's Guard Dialogue is considered vandalism and obsecenity[edit]

I was trying to put in an additional dialogue line that female guards would say if they caught you committing a crime. It was considered vandalism, which I don't know why. The word c o c k y is considered vulgar.

Here is the original dialogue:

"Don't you get (word that is considered nonsense or obscenity) with me, criminal! Pay your fine or face my wrath!" — Unsigned comment by 99.229.138.52 (talk) at 22:45 on 12 March 2023‎
Fixed. You may now use "cocky" to your heart's content without the abuse filter bothering you. Thanks for the report! Robin Hood(talk) 23:42, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Links, Tables and Templates, Oh My![edit]

Hi Rob

I was trying to add quest links to the "Quest Related?" column in Oblivion's Ayleid Ruins table and have run into a problem. If I change the first line of the table from:

to

the link shows up all right, but the word "Yes" changes to lower-case (i.e. "yes") rather than being capitalized. I've tried to figure out why, but the reason has so far eluded me. I'm thinking it most likely has something to do with the table using the page sub-template. Since you're the template guru and the person who converted the table to the template format, I thought I'd ask to see if you can help me out. Any help, explanation, clarification, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! — Wolfborn(Howl) 01:16, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

The good news is that I can explain what's happening. The better news is that I've modified the template to allow what you want to do, though it removes the safeguards, so you're on your own to make sure it's cased correctly.
What's happening is that it takes the entire second parameter, converts it to lower-case (yes), then converts the first character ([) to upper-case. You can see why that's a problem. :) I've added a questrel parameter now, though, that allows you to put in whatever you want for the second field, so just add questrel= before the second parameter and you should be good to go. Robin Hood(talk) 02:20, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation, and for tweaking the template; it works like charm. :) Someday I'll really have to exercise my brain and wrap my head around this template stuff. Cheers! — Wolfborn(Howl) 04:49, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Namespace(ish) question[edit]

Hi Rob, hope you're well. I'm looking to create some info pages for the Beyond Skyrim Morrowind - Bonemold Weapon Pack (e.g. here, here and here) but I paused when it came to nomenclature. Given the mod is a minor release from the BS Morrowind team specifically, I think it'd make more sense to use Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind/ABC than e.g. Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind - Bonemold Weapon Pack/ABC for things like the NPC and Items pages. For the "main" page though I was debating whether it should be Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind - Bonemold Weapon Pack or Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind/Bonemold Weapon Pack, with my preference with using the former (and treating it a bit like a "quest" for the Morrowind project). Is either preferred for either consistency across other namespaces and/or for templates to work properly? If I then wanted to redirect Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind to Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind/Bonemold Weapon Pack like we do for Cyrodiil and Bruma, would that cause any issues (guess it's a bit circular)? Thank you! --SerCenKing (talk) 13:45, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

I think, from what you're describing, the best bet is to create a BSM space on its own, which'll give you the Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind/ABC style of pages you're looking for. For the main page, you can create it wherever makes the most sense to you, but if there's any chance that there'll be more BSM content in the future, then we obviously don't want to have trouble disentangling the Bonemold Weapon Pack from everything else, so I'd suggest the following:
 • Create the main page at Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind - Bonemold Weapon Pack, like you want, and create a permanent redirect to it from Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind/Bonemold Weapon Pack. Wares of Tamriel does something similar where Beyond Skyrim:Wares of Tamriel/Main Page is a permanent redirect to Beyond Skyrim:Wares of Tamriel.
 • For the time being, also create a redirect from Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind to the BWP main page. Then, if we have additional BSM content in the future, it's easy to replace the Beyond Skyrim:Morrowind redirect with a proper page and everything else will just keep working like you'd expect.
Does that make sense? Robin Hood(talk) 16:06, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
PS, I just created the Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind (BS5M) pseudospace, so feel free to start experimenting with it and see if it works out. If not, we can always adjust it as needed. Robin Hood(talk) 16:10, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Great, thank you very much! I'll have a play around now with redirects and the like, and get back to you if anything breaks :) --SerCenKing (talk) 19:55, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Asking for confirmation[edit]

I was trying to fix one of the references on Lore:Dagoth Ur (I hadn't realized my previous edit accidentally duplicated the reference dubbed "Dagoth Ur's dialogue with the Nerevarine in Morrowind") but it told me something like "due to repeated abuse edits from this range have been rate-limited" and I was told to contact an administrator and ask for confirmation. Can I like, ask for that, or is that a special people thing? SAT0rii (talk) 14:49, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

It's very much intended for people to ask. It's pretty much for anyone who's running up against our vandalism filters but isn't actually a vandal. I've given you confirmed status for a month, by which point you should be long past the auto-confirmed status anyway. Robin Hood(talk) 15:34, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! SAT0rii (talk) 15:36, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
