Please help![edit]

Im really sorry to be posting this on your talk page, and im afraid it has nothing to do with UESP. Basically the problem is whenever I download a mod I save it, and it goes to my documents as usual. However when I go to copy in my data folder I noticed the logo is not the construction set one as usual but instead the internet explorer logo. When I click on the file it gives me the option to either find or save, so basically it wont let me copy the plug-in to my data directory. I would be really gratefull if you knew a soloution to this, thanks. - Jyggalag The Great Library of Jyggalag 09:32, 5 March 2008 (EST)

My guess would be that the mod is compressed using a program you don't have. A lot of mods are compressed using ACE, 7Z or RAR and Windows doesn't support those directly. You might try downloading WinRAR and see if that lets you open the mod. Beyond that I really don't know what to suggest I'm afraid. –RpehTCE 10:01, 5 March 2008 (EST)

Image qualities[edit]

Hi Rpeh,

Sorry about the size and brightness of the images I uploaded. I was planning to run the game and get better ones later tonight. The ones I uploaded were based on the the theory that a bad image is better than no image. But like I said; I'm going to get better in-game images now, so no worries. :) - Game LordTalk|Contribs 11:48, 8 March 2008 (EST)

That's fine. If you're uploading any others, could you use the standard image naming convention? On the Images Help Page page it describes how we prefer the images to be named. It's not a big thing but it makes it clear what's what. –RpehTCE 11:55, 8 March 2008 (EST)

Vaermina Revert[edit]

Just noticed your Vaermina Revert. If you're going to remove that one for speculation, the larger paragraph it's part of should also be removed as speculation (or perhaps moved to the Easter Egg page?). Both the old and new essentially say "portion x of this quest may reflect these events in y book". I don't like to make policy decisions like that as a rule, so I'm just posting here and I'll let you decide. :) --Robin Hood 13:10, 8 March 2008 (EST)

Yeah you're right. I was going to leave the other part but it's a really tenuous link and not worth keeping. –RpehTCE 03:09, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
My apologies. Feel free to whack the (duplicate) speculation over at A Shadow Over Hackdirt and Hackdirt. Bethesda´s homage is a bit less subtle, still, attributing it to Lovecraft is in the end simply speculation ;) Cheers, Scoo 06:12, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
On a more serious note, perhaps we then need community guidelines to point all trivia etc. to the appropriate easter egg page and simply link to it from the various articles in question? Cheers, Scoo 06:42, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
The Shadow over Hackdirt speculation is rather more clear cut; the name of the quest is a dead giveaway. Having two pieces of speculation about "The Horror! The Horror!" though is a bit much! I suppose it's fair enough for the Easter Eggs page though. –RpehTCE 06:45, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
That was quick :) It's been a while since I last read Lovecraft, but one of the main issues in the Dream Cycle stories was that one (who was a dreamer) did enter the dreamworlds for quite a long time, if I remember correctly, one of the protagonists ended up living in the larger-than-life dreamworld. Certainly it can be viewed as more or less far fetched, still I'd maintain that there's a strong possibility that it is a reference to Lovecraft's work (at the very least the connection struck me immidiately when I [or rather my alter ego] did the quest for the first time the other day). Freinds.[edit]

Hi rpeh, is it alright if i put you on my freind list. reply back Benny220 06:22, 10 March 2008 (EDT)

Stuff it. As you are not online at the moment then i will just add you. message me if you want me to take you off my freinds list. Cya Benny220 06:37, 10 March 2008 (EDT)
No problem - although I'd prefer to be on your "friends" list instead :p –RpehTCE 06:48, 10 March 2008 (EDT)

'Helpful' info etc.[edit]

Hello, I don't want to be perceived as a wanker, but why the (seemingly) double standards when it comes to providing additional help to players that have access to the console regarding items/spells etc. that the player might otherwise miss out on? My additions that were promptly reverted were more in-depth and short notices at the Umbra page. I don't see anything wrong with telling people that this can be obtained post-quest without any drawbacks. The same would go for the necromancer's amulet and bloodworm helm, though those items are gained upon finishing the mages guild questline if one use the unofficial patch (which I can imagine just about everyone use). True, one is supposed to have to make a choice regarding the Umbra sword, still the same apply to the Volanaro feller in the respect that one has to choose to whether or not to purchase the summon dremora lord spell or not before he's removed from the game world.

If applied in its extreme, then perhaps quest articles etc. should be purged of 'helpful' hints such as "be certain to stock up on healing potions/repair hammers because the next part of said quest will be hard/long etc" that are rather subjective if one were to look on the issue from that angle. I prefer helpful pointers to players that perhaps find the console page a bit overwhelming, especially as it can be done discreetly in a 'notes' section in relevant articles. Cheers, Scoo 08:37, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

You're right about there being a bit of a double standard on this one but there is a reason. There was a discussion a while back about the console note on Volanaro's page (finally found it! here). Basically the consensus was that, because this is the only place to obtain that spell, it warrants a mention even though we don't usually go into details about the console. We don't mention the console without a good reason - game-breaking bugs and so on - because it just annoys people that can't use the console, but this is a special case. –RpehTCE 08:43, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
Suppose I stand corrected then. Scoo 09:01, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

Dredhwen[edit]

Regarding your recent note on Dredhwen requesting verification of her disappearance, I can at least give verbal (well, written, but you know what I mean!) verification, for what it's worth, as per the comments on her discussion page: I have had to manually retrieve her from the alternate "ordered" Passwall to bring her back to the Wastrel's Purse, so it does at least happen sometimes, and I daresay that her lack of essential status means that she could in theory be caught in the crossfire once the unpleasantness commences. However, I haven't actually trawled through the CS to back this up with any actual evidence, so I guess that further corroboration may be required...--Cbh 19:52, 16 March 2008 (EDT)

Right. Now we're getting somewhere. So she gets transported to the ordered world, isn't always killed, and can be brought back? That seems more like it. If you want to edit that up and put it back on the page, that would be great. –RpehTCE 02:48, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
I'm having a bit of a brain-ache today... I was thinking of changing it to something along the lines of "the game may leave her in the alternate "ordered" version of Passwall after the Retaking The Fringe quest; PC users may, however, bring her back using the moveto command." But I'm not entirely happy with the wording, so I'd rather somebody else gives it the once-over before I go splatting my vague meandering all over the article! Alternatively, the current explanation's already been changed to suggest that she's not always killed, so perhaps I should just leave it alone...--Cbh 09:22, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
It's not usual to include console codes except for game-breaking bugs or other important stuff (see previous topic!). I suppose she could be led back with a Command Humanoid spell though. Did you use the console then? –RpehTCE 09:28, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
I did, I'm afraid; both to find her in the first instance and then bring her back. I can't think of a way of doing the same on platforms other than the PC, so perhaps that bit shouldn't be included...--Cbh 10:52, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Fort Nomore[edit]

Hello Ralph, I apologize for the changes I kept making of the description. I actually saw (and read) the conventions just before you wrote me, and I of course will keep them in mind in the future. My original idea for the change really was that Fort Nomore is called "medium", but is a lot smaller than many other medium dungeons there are in Oblivion. But a definition is a definition, I understand that. Again, sincere apologies.

Thomas

No problem - we don't expect everybody to know everything about the site when they join. I'd recommend though that if you find an edit has been reverted several times in a row, you stop and ask why it happened instead of redoing it. There will usually be a good reason! I hope you enjoy the site. –RpehTCE 09:53, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Userboxes[edit]

Sorry for adding the Admin and Mentor Userboxes, I just copied the lot from someones userpage, can't remember who but i really feel stupid for it now! Volanaro 11:19, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Thanks[edit]

I just happened to log on during lunch... Thanks for tidying up after me. --Gaebrial 09:16, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

I got back from lunch to see you holding the fort on your own! Nice one. –RpehTCE 09:22, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Why Am I in the userbox category?[edit]

I have just noticed that my userpage is listed in the userbox category I'm baffled as to how it could have got there and I can't remove it, the same can be said for Benny220. what's going on? Volanaro 15:31, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

It's your Troll Hunter userbox. It looks like you've copied and pasted it from somewhere and taken the category with you. You'll need to remove the code [[Category:User Box Templates|Troll Hunter]] from your page to take yourself out. –RpehTCE 15:33, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
Hmm I can' see a troll hunter box on my page, what does it say? Volanaro 15:40, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
It's the yellow one with the "WD-40"-esque logo. Scoo 15:45, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
thanks, that sorted it Volanaro 15:48, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Quick question[edit]

Hi, you may think I am silly for asking, I am kind of new so I don't relly know, but what exactly is a subpage?-Goblin lair 08:49 21 March 2008 (EDT)

It's easiest to answer that with an example or two. My user page is User:Rpeh but I have a subpage at User:Rpeh/Photo Album. Likewise, we have Oblivion:Fort Nomore and there's a description subpage at Oblivion:Fort Nomore/Description. It's that simple! –RpehTCE 05:12, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Thanks!-Goblin lair 10:22 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Quick question 2[edit]

Now when I have my subpage, I have another question: is it ok to have links to discussionpages from my own userpage or my subpage? -Goblin lair 10:46, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Yeah. No problem at all. I do it myself. –RpehTCE 05:57, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Ok thanks again, then I can start now. -Goblin lair

does this IP need blocking?[edit]

I think this IP is a nonsense bot, not sure Volanaro 11:01, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Nope. Not a nonsense bot, just somebody messing around. I've given the standard deletion warning for now. Thanks for doing the reversion. –RpehTCE 11:19, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
Ok, just curious considering that as well as deleting contenet the person added three g's for no apparent reason. HOwever when it comes to something like this I'd probably trust your judgement more than my own! Volanaro 11:22, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
It is odd, but the nonsense bots are quite easy to spot when you get used to it. [1] and http://www.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Tamriel_Talk%3ASload&diff=180777&oldid=174245 were the first two nonsense edits we encountered but there have been dozens since. –RpehTCE 11:36, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

tall images ?[edit]

Hello! I happened to stumble upon your User:Rpeh/Sandbox/9 and wonder if there really is a problem with taller images (eg. on npc pages). On my browser it renders nicely from a window width of 800pixel upwards. Well, please tell me and I can reissue the pictures that I made. -- Adjego 13:01, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Some are fine, some aren't. If you're viewing the site with 300px-wide thumbnails, some of the NPC images scale to take up a huge amount of screen. More than that, it's useful to be able to see some of the NPC's environment so you can see what's going on around them. I don't know how many of those are yours, I'm blushing more at the number of them that are mine! –RpehTCE 13:05, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
Ok :-) Generally I like to show people in their environment and do not like the upper torso closeup pictures, but that often means to have a tall image. Well, please send a note if I can help. -- Adjego 14:15, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Quiuck question 3[edit]

Those Descriptions of you on your page like: this player is an artist. Can anyone have descriptions like that on their page? -Goblin lair 8:10, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Yep! Those are called userboxes, and anyone can use them. Most of them. The first three are restricted to certain groups of users, but the rest are free game. You can even make your own if you want! Have fun ;) –Eshetalk03:32, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Ok, then I know, thanks. Sorry that I am asking so mutch, hope you don't think I am asking too mutch. -Goblin lair 09:05, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Thx[edit]

Thank for your welcome my friend and yes the main reason why i sign up this site because i'm an officially new fan member of TES series behind Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Final Fantasy :). Rickengothic 23 March 2008, 3:18 utc

I'm sorry[edit]

Well I am sorry if you think I have done to mutch to my page. (Thanks for telling.) Now when I know I won't make my page grow more than necessarily. As soon I find anything to inprove the articles I will start editing them.

//Goblin lair 07:47 24 March 2008 (EDT)

Hi I just got a question: How do I delete subpages that I don't want anymore?--Goblin lair 07:51 24 March 2008 (EDT)

At the moment, I don't think you've done too much to your page - I'm just letting you know it's a good idea to do more on the site than just edit your own page. If you want a sub-page deleted, put this at the top: {{speed|reason}}. Replace "reason" with a bit of text explaining why you want it deleted and that will let an admin know that you want the page to be deleted. –RpehTCE 03:20, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

Thanks! I really needed to know that.--Goblin lair 08:20, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

This user is in love?[edit]

Congratulations to you and Eshe!!! :) — Unsigned comment by Kementari (talkcontribs)

Thanks! I still think she's mad, but then she says the same about me. :) I hope your wedding was great! –RpehTCE 01:57, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Oh, I just realized I had already placed those bits we were discussing on the fanfiction site. It shouldn't get worse than that! Kementari 05:59, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Ah! I read that and thought it was superb. Except of course it's a pain given that I need to get Thief of Darkness up to the same standard! –RpehTCE 06:51, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Well, tonight's new chapter was added, but the "harsh" part I talked about was the bit with Lucien. It shouldn't get worse than that. Kementari 06:58, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Yeah that was quite graphic, but I don't think it went too far. That's probably the best bit of writing anywhere in the fanfic section so far. –RpehTCE 07:57, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

Brucinater[edit]

This user's page seems a bit inaproriate and i'm concerned some people may take offense to the "picture of their mum", what do you reckon? Volanaro 05:29, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

The picture is fine. It's not nice, but it's fine. I've deleted some of the more offensive stuff though. –RpehTCE 05:42, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

Deletimication[edit]

Cheers for the deletion. :S It appears that templated sigs don't work over on this wiki. I think it's missing one of the templates I use on the Urban Dead one. -- DurradanIV 10:17, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

I'm not sure what you mean by "templated sigs", but there's nothing in the code of that Urban Dead one that wouldn't work over here. In fact, let's try mine and use a subst to add my date template in... –RpehTCE
A templated sig is a signature that is contained on a user's subpage. The means that when you sign a post, your signature consists of {{User:Name/sig}} so that any changes you make to that page (i.e you change your sig in some way, adding a link etc) will be reflected in all instances of your sig that used that template. -- DurradanIV 10:34, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Ah. No, it always changes to a subst rather than an inclusion. –RpehTCE 10:41, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
In English that means? :S -- DurradanIV 10:44, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
It means that the contents of the Sig page would be copied to the page being signed rather than being dynamically included. –RpehTCE 10:48, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Ahha. Gotcha. So basically, this is going to take some figuring out? -- DurradanIV 10:50, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
I know a few users in the past have tried to use /Sig subpages, but I'm not sure where the concept comes from. I can't see anything in mediawiki that is set up to automatically support such pages, and I can't see any extensions installed at Urban Dead wiki that would introduce such a feature. As rpeh found, any attempt to use a template within a signature will get automatically converted by the wiki software into a substitution (copying the page, not a dynamically updated version), and that has been part of the wiki parser function since at least mediawiki version 1.6.8; in other words, mediawiki has had this disabled for years. Finally, even if we could identify what's being done on other wikis to introduce that feature, I'm not sure it's something we want to start doing. Wikipedia forbids any use of templates within signatures and provides some pretty good reasons why such templates are a bad idea.
All in all, everything I can find says that using the "my preferences" option to provide a non-dynamic customized signature is the method adopted by mediawiki a long time ago, and is a better way to be doing signatures. --NepheleTalk 13:01, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

I'm Offended[edit]

Why did you mess with my userpage? How is Meatspin offensive? It's an online meat shop, you ignorant fool! You'd better not make nonsense edits like this anymore, or you could very well lose your place as an admin!

--Brucinater 21:37, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

Though it's against my better judgement, I'm going to give you an informal warning regarding your behavior before resorting to an official one.
First of all, there is absolutely no call for personal attacks. We do not tolerate disrespectful treatment of others here, so don't do it. Secondly, rpeh has done nothing to compromise his good standing in this community. The reason for his edit to your user page is readily available on your own talk page. We allow users a lot of freedom with their user pages, but not when the content is offensive or contains personal attacks.
In the future, please make an effort treat other users politely and with respect. –Eshetalk22:00, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
My years of forum moderation are at war with the Good Faith law. Troll-eradication response rising... --Kementari 22:02, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Wow, you guys are intimidating. I could just write "tool" all over your user page and what the hell are you gonna do? Ban me? And I am no troll, I feel it was a stupid edit, if someone knows what meatspin is, I think they can handle the word itself, it's not like people cringe whenever they see the word sexual. And Volanaro, since you seem to be Rpeh's bitch, and I'm sure your looking at this, I'm sorry about the zombie thing "not being nice." You should all grow up, offended way too easily :) --Brucinater 22:58, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
Since you now have an official warning, were you to vandalise my user page - or any other page - I would indeed block you in accord with our Blocking Policy, on which you should also read the sections on personal attacks. As for the zombie picture, I'm actually offended more by the idea that people still find "Yo momma" jokes funny than by the picture itself. –RpehTCE 01:51, 26 March 2008 (EDT)

I notice you haven't even replied to Brucinater's stuff yet, choosing to ignore him as you have no answer you ignorant fool. And hence you will warn me because you have no answer to this and then you will get all your little admin buddies to help you, oh yes this person has an opinion different to us let's warn him! Graxx 17:32, 27 March 2008 (EDT) I AM NEPHELE

I replied to him as much as I'm prepared to. As you can see from the other replies, I'm not alone in regarding his posts as childish and offensive, and I have absolutely no doubt that if I hadn't warned him, one of my "little admin buddies" would have done so. The same can be said about the warning I've just given you. It's not personal, it's not a last resort because I can't beat you in an argument, it's a necessary response to a vandal trying to disrupt our site. Just to be clear, read our Blocking Policy so you won't be surprised about the next step. –RpehTCE 17:41, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
You ignorant fool, you don't have a clue about UESP, if you really knew about it then you'de stop acusing me of being gay. Graxx 17:45, 27 March 2008 (EDT) I AM NEPHELE

Rameiz[edit]

I notice that User:Rameiz has the mentor userbox on his page, despite the fact he has been removed from the mentor program and was asked to remove the userbox several months ago, does anything need to be done about this? Volanaro 06:04, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

Good spot. Just removed it. –RpehTCE 07:12, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

Mentor[edit]

hey, I now have the email function enabled like you suggested, so what should i do from here? Volanaro 13:44, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

Well you meet the criteria so feel free to add yourself to the mentor page and put the userbox on your user page. Good luck! –RpehTCE 13:49, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
Done, you don't know how good this feels! :) Volanaro 14:00, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

Mentor Mark. II[edit]

Hey Reph. You'll probably decline this request, but I was hoping that I would be able to become a Mentor sometime soon. I appear to meet all of the requirements (I have E-mail enabled, but I have never visited the IRC chatroom. In fact, I don't even know how to set it up), and I hope that you will consider this. The reason that I posted this here is that I cannot find a Nominations page for the Mentor Program. Sorry to bother you with this just after another request; I have wanted to be a Mentor for a while, but I had completely forgotten, until Volonaro's edits on the RecentChanges jogged my memory. --HMSVictory 14:09, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

It's not up to me to decline such requests, and I wouldn't do so even if it was! There's no nomination process; if you want to be a Mentor, add yourself to this page and put the box on your user page. That's it! See? We told you you'd get to this point before long :) –RpehTCE 14:15, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
Thankyou! I know I could most certainly be a better editor, but I feel that my grasp of manners, etiquette and overall friendly-ness are adequate. I also get a great sense of satisfaction from aiding new or inexperienced editors. Thanks again! --HMSVictory 14:20, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
Hmm. Actually you don't seem to have email enabled at the moment. At least, I can't email you using it. –RpehTCE 14:32, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
What? I'm sure I enabled E-mail. I'll check that now. --HMSVictory 14:34, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
Yup, it's working now (I think). --HMSVictory 14:36, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
A triple-post? Now this is becoming really shameless. Anyway, you know that Userbox "holder" on my page, very similar to the one on yours? How do you change its colour? I am aware (and have a list of) the FC Web Colours - so no worries there - but what parameter must you insert? --HMSVictory
Looks good now! I've just sent you a test. –RpehTCE 14:49, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
Haven't recieved it yet... I think I should replace the captials in my E-mail with lower case letters. Try it again in a minute or so. --HMSVictory 15:06, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

Spam Bot[edit]

Think we've got a spam bot here, what do you reckon? --Volanaro 07:35, 30 March 2008 (EDT)

It might not be a spam bot, we can't be sure. I've given it a warning, so if it carries on spamming, I think that you, or another Administrator should block it. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 07:37, 30 March 2008 (EDT)
We've had this kind of thing before and with deliberate spamming like that they get blocked on a first offense. We only warn if people do it as part of another edit. –RpehTCE 07:40, 30 March 2008 (EDT)

Page discussion locations?[edit]

Where can I find the discussion on rejecting Role Playing pages being added to the wiki? I tried to create a new page, and it was quickly deleted before I got the page up and running. I read the guidelines and searched for previous material, but found nothing about Role Playing. I suppose I can't change anyone's mind about adding the content now, but at least I'd like to know why this decision has been made.

Thanks, SwordForTheLord

Hi, I added a link to your article once I dug it out. It's UESPWiki:Deletion Review/Morrowind:Roleplaying. Your article hasn't been deleted yet - just proposed for deletion. If you want to contest that, you can do so on the talk page. Please don't, though. We have enough trouble keeping Oblivion:Roleplaying in check. –RpehTCE 15:06, 31 March 2008 (EDT)
