Thanks[edit]

thanks for the welcome :) I've actually been using this site a lot for a few weeks but never signed up, it's a huge help though. i just thought i might give back a little every now and then. Syv 16:26, 1 March 2009 (EST)

That's how I got started. Watch out! It can get addictive! –RpehTCE 16:28, 1 March 2009 (EST)

Recent Contributions?[edit]

I haven't been keeping close track, but are there problems with recent contributions I should know about that are making you consider leaving (apart from the occasional issue between you and you-know-who)? I think it'd be a big loss if you did...we seem to be running out of experienced Admins around here! --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 17:31, 1 March 2009 (EST)

We just seem to be experiencing more than the usual levels of idiocy. Maybe I'm just tired. –RpehTCE 00:36, 2 March 2009 (EST)

Slightly brighter version[edit]

Hello, how much did you increase the gamma or brightness on the big TR map? I'm working on an update of it. --Gez 12:46, 7 March 2009 (EST)

I used 1.5 for that particular image. I was going to use 1.75 - the value we used on our interactive MW map (see this) but the yellow text looked a bit washed out. –RpehTCE 13:08, 7 March 2009 (EST)
Alright, thanks. I can use 1.75 on the map layer without affecting any other. --Gez 13:14, 7 March 2009 (EST)

RE: Other Users' Pages[edit]

Sorry, I didn't think that it would bother people. I'll keep your advice in mind. Sorry. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 11:20, 20 March 2009 (EDT)

That particular one probably wasn't a big deal, but it's the principle. Many people, myself included, keep things in user space to make sure other people don't edit them, so even if somebody else's edit is well-intentioned, it can be irritating or get in the way of a sequence of edits. As I said, a post on a talk page is usually more appropriate. –RpehTCE 11:35, 20 March 2009 (EDT)
Alright. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 11:40, 20 March 2009 (EDT)

Adoring Fan - Advantages Removal[edit]

Hi, sorry about that, I got a bit mislead with what could be put there when I saw the one about throwing/pushing him off dive rock, nevermind, I don't see that as much of an advantage either. — Unsigned comment by 220.238.224.41 (talk)

Another One[edit]

We've got another "Good post, admin." edit. I took care of it, but I thought you'd want to know. --Debatra 12:43, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Screenshots on PS3?[edit]

Hey, feel free not to answer this, but I really want to help with taking screenshots of NPCs and Guard Uniforms and that sort of thing. Problem is, I play on PS3 and I don't know how to take screenshots. They'd be nice ones, because I'm playing at the highest resolutiong. Any clue how to take a screenshot on the PS3? Chunk of Ham 03:31, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

I don't believe you can. The only way would be to take a photo of the screen, and that's going to create a picture of too-low quality. Sorry. –RpehTCE 04:14, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

Broader subjects[edit]

I had simply copied the code from Category:Morrowind-Service-Redirects which I guess was set this way so as to be a subcategory of redirects, rather than a redirect itself. --Gez 05:04, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

Hmm. Hadn't noticed that one. I'll change that category too because it's definitely not right. –RpehTCE 05:13, 22 March 2009 (EDT)
So I guess I'll recat Category:Morrowind-Home-Redirects too, then... That's the last subcategory of redirect to broader subjects. --Gez 05:33, 22 March 2009 (EDT)
Go for it. I know I'm being picky here, but it just seems wrong to have things that aren't redirects in the redirects categories. –RpehTCE 05:42, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

Name[edit]

Hey, is there a chance that I could change my name. Thanks for the help. — Unsigned comment by Jesus lover (talkcontribs) on 24 March 2009

I can't do that for you - only Daveh can. Post a request on his talk page with the new name you want and he should be able to do it in a day or two. –RpehTCE 01:15, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Nonungalo[edit]

Thanks for clarifying that for me! Like I said I'm very new to this game and apparently I've already been playing it for 16 hours. It's nice to know that there are people here to help me out! I've never used a wiki before either so I was a little frightened that I didn't post it right or aomething. Thanks again!!! MeBetter87 18:37, 25 March 2009 (EDT)

If you read our Getting Started page you'll be a long way towards knowing how we work. Don't worry about making a mistake - the worst that will happen is that it gets deleted. Welcome to the site! –RpehTCE 03:09, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

Oblivion: Permanent Retirement - Alternate Assassinations[edit]

Hi there. I made a contribution last night (before creating an account) and you deleted it. I don't understand the reason, something about "Undo three edits - doesn't work". Why? The alternate assassination (as a mage) that I tried to add was how I was able to complete the mission. Please explain to me, I'm new and that was my first attempt to post a contribution to this site. Thanks.Mcbaes72 11:25, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

I tried your technique several times and it simply didn't work. Both with invisibility and chameleon, Adamus ran out of the pool and arrested me. I tested with spells, weapons, different levels of chameleon and every time it failed. Perhaps I misunderstood your suggestion, but having tested it pretty thoroughly without success, I removed it. –RpehTCE 11:28, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

I guess I should give more specifics. I'm a lvl 19 mage in Sneak mode and wearing Shrouded Armor and Hood, cast Invisibility spell, sneak attack from behind on bodyguard (while Adamus is swimming) using Electric Shock spell (25 pts damage). I was surprised that the bodyguard screamed, ran around the lake and off screen to the right leaving Phillida alone and he kept on swimming unaware of what happened. I just did that yesterday, so it's fresh in my memory. Then, I cast Invisibility again, snuck up behind Adamus and shot him in the back of the head w/ Rose of Sithis arrow, then looted his body. I have two saves, one of the saves is after I did all that, planted finger/ring in desk at Imperial City Office and collected reward from Ocheeva. Hopefully, the other save is before the sneak attack on the bodyguard, so I'll try to replicate it after I get home from work. If possible, I'll try to capture it on video as proof.Mcbaes72 13:06, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

Ah. Okay, trying those exact steps, it works (in a UOP game). Ideally, the meta-situation should be investigated, but that technique seems to work. –RpehTCE 14:11, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

Oh, okay...glad you got it to work. Next time, I'll be more specific when trying to add a contribution (and I forgot to mention that this was done on the PS3 version). I still made a short video of it if you'd like to check it out (it's decent quality from my camera). This time, when I used Electric Shock while Invisible and in Sneak mode, the body guard ran straight into the lake, back out on the other side and off screen to the right. Adamus didn't react to me attacking his bodyguard. After turning Invisible, I tried to shoot him w/ the Rose of Sithis, but he saw me when I wielded the bow/arrow. So, 2nd try I was a little farther away and shot him in the back of the head (as you'll see in the video). Does this mean my alternate assassination method can finally be posted? If so, I'll need to edit it w/ more specific info. Thanks for replying to me so quickly, I can only imagine how busy the Admins are on this site. Sure. In general, specifics are good. There are so many ways things can be achieved in Oblivion it pays to be as clear as possible. –RpehTCE 10:26, 27 March 2009 (EDT)

Clothing Capitalization Consistency[edit]

About the capitalization on Undena Orethi, I changed that because the names of clothing items are capitalized on pretty much every single other NPC page that I've seen, so I thought capitalization was the standard. Also, when you click on the links to the item on the Clothing page, all the names of the garments on that page are capitalized. Again, this is a small point, but I was just trying to keep things consistent, and I don't want it seem like I'm frivolously changing things because of personal preference. Thanks! Aliste 14:20, 28 March 2009 (EDT)

All the inventories I've written have used lower case, for the simple reason that if someone owns a pair of tan linens, it's not a major event and describing them as Tan Linens is silly. I know others haven't followed the same convention, but... well they're wrong. If I end up in the minority, I'll accept that but I imagine this is the kind of thing we'll be sorting out in the final pass over the pages. –RpehTCE 15:01, 28 March 2009 (EDT)
I use the capitalization (mostly because some of the links doesnt work without them), so basically I do it because Im lazy. I reckon it's wrong, but as Rpeh says, its very easy to change when we reach the final check-ups on the finished pages.Krusty 15:56, 28 March 2009 (EDT)
Great, thanks for the replies. I won't bother changing those either way, then. Aliste 16:02, 28 March 2009 (EDT)
(edit conflict) For links, the capitalization is important - "Tan Linens" works, but "tan linens" doesn't - because each page uses the in-game name and case is sensitive on linux (don't get me started). But you can specify a different label for a link - "Tan Linens|tan linens" when making the link will do the job. –RpehTCE 16:05, 28 March 2009 (EDT)
Understood. Thanks for your patience as I try to find my footing around here. :) Aliste 16:40, 28 March 2009 (EDT)
Can I come in on both sides of this debate? Personally, I prefer to match what's used in-game, which in most cases is Initial Caps. That said, I agree that tan linens are not exactly very exciting or worthy of capitalization <g>, and I think that the capitalization of every last item might be visually distracting. Still, it might be something to try getting consensus about, just so we're all on the same page. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 20:15, 28 March 2009 (EDT)

Undo how many edits?[edit]

In this edit you said you were undoing two edits, but you only undid one. Had you meant to undo the other one as well? --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 04:04, 29 March 2009 (EDT)

Oops! Well spotted. Now fixed. –RpehTCE 04:22, 29 March 2009 (EDT)

And another one..[edit]

Well, looks like we have another 'zombie-computer' out there, sort of like the "Good post, admin". Check out this IP and this one; as well as their edits to Talk:Main Page. --SerCenKing 10:11, 29 March 2009 (EDT)

Thanks for the Welcome.[edit]

I appreciate the help, because I wasn't quite sure of the format you wanted the NPC Redesign in. I'll keep that in mind as I continue working on the NPCs. I redid Lucien Lachance to your specs, although admittedly it seems like I've added less content than before. But I gave a solid paragraph on his personal inventory.

I actually do have a question or two regarding user pages.

1.At what point can I create my own user page? 2.Are there any restrictions on what can be posted in a user page? 3.How do I get those "This User is...." boxes? 4.I am working on a novelization of Oblivion, which I will post to Fanficton.net. Is it okay to have a link to that on my userpage?

Thank you for welcoming me into the Wiki and I look forward to becoming a valuable asset to the site.

Well, I'm not Rpeh, but I can answer a few of your questions, if you like ;).
  1. You can create a user page whenever you like. It's completely up to you.
  2. Anything, pretty much. Except for illegal or explicit content.
  3. This page should explain how do get the userboxes up.
  4. No problem at all there. If you like, you can even host it on the UESP. Some users do: Take a look at this.
