Wiki images[edit]

Hi rpeh, I sent an email to Kalis Agea for some help on adding images and he directed me to you for more advice. The screenshots that I take, for example

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-npc-Borvir.jpg
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-item-Daedric_Armor_Female.jpg
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-player-Vampirism.jpg
seem to not be as sharp as other images on the site. My graphics settings are as high as they go, so I'm thinking it must be my resolution. I'm running 1366x768, which I am told is 720p. Is there any resolution I can change it to that will give me 1080p, and sharper images? I don't really know much about resolution. If it turns out that I have to stay at 720p I'm still happy to add images to pages knowing they'll probably be replaced later with higher resolution images. If it's alright for me to do that I'll keep contributing images, and maybe the editors that replace them can get ideas from the ones I put up. The Invisible Chocobo 01:48, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't see the problem: those three images look fine to me. You're running at a fairly low resolution, which doesn't help, but the whole 720p/1080p doesn't apply to PCs because they're on monitors and not TVs.
It's always good to see people doing images even if we end up replacing them, because the ideas will always be useful. Please keep going and let's decorate the site! rpeh •TCE 19:28, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Alright, I just wanted to make sure my images were alright before I kept uploading more. Thanks, rpeh. The Invisible Chocobo 23:56, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Overly-Detailed Detailed Walkthrough?[edit]

Hi. Your advice here about not leading users around by the nose struck me when I somehow came across it some days ago. Now I'm struggling with finding a balance between providing information that some people might like to have, and telling people how to play their game. If you have a moment, can you (or anyone else who sees this) skim through what I'm working on here and maybe gimme a little nose-leading for writing good walkthroughs? Maybe the best way to satisfy users who like this much detail and these kinds of suggestions is to keep walkthroughs simpler and let them refer to the place pages which will eventually contain a lot of detail about who and what's where? --Jreynolds2Talk 03:37, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

That's a redlink - have you already put it live? rpeh •TCE 21:32, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, just thought I'd mention that it was a valid link when I opened it yesterday, if that helps. The Invisible Chocobo 01:01, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. Sorry, I forgot to update this message. I put it on when I completed it to the end, open to seeing it reverted if it's like, "No, we don't do this." I am unable to evaluate whether it belongs there and I'm interested in doing whatever it takes or whatever I can to make it better/appropriate when I can get some guidance, including putting it back in a sandbox and re-working it. --Jreynolds2Talk 01:32, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Wait, the above message may come across like I'm frustrated with a lack of guidance or that I've assigned you that job. I'm relaxed about the issue, and just making a first attempt to directly reach out to someone with a good perspective in hope of getting some feedback that helps me know how to better contribute. I know that I'll learn about that sooner or later. I'm also uncertain about what I did with Pieces of the Past, especially the two sections, "Getting to ...." I see something potentially of value to some, and at the same time I see a number of problems with it. --Jreynolds2Talk 02:55, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Nirnroot on Oblivion Map[edit]

I think this was your project, but if it was Nephele's or Dave's, feel free to bounce this over to them. I was just patrolling an edit on the Fort Teleman talk page, which claimed there were three nearby nirnroot. (Of course, since the map doesn't match, the point is moot.) Naturally, I went and looked at the Oblivion Map, and much to my surprise, found neither of the two on the Fort Teleman map showing up on our map. I've confirmed in the CS that they both exist. If the nirnroots were all added manually, then it's a simple oversight and we can just add them and move on, but I would assume they were added automatically, in which case there may be a logic problem to worry about. Or have I somehow done something wrong with the map? Any ideas? Robin Hoodtalk 20:47, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, slight misunderstanding of what was going on that I just noticed: They show up when you look at the map normally; they don't show up if you actually search for "nirnroot". Robin Hoodtalk 20:50, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Actually they do show, just not straight away. Search for nirnroot then scroll down the list on the left and click "next". Do that a couple more times and they'll appear. It's a known issue with the search. rpeh •TCE 06:02, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Ah, is that what's going on! Thanks. Robin Hoodtalk 07:08, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

No Keening?[edit]

I noticed that on File:SR-quest-Arniel's Endeavor.jpg, Arniel isn't actually using Keening. I've only played through the quest once, and I didn't really pay attention enough to see what exactly he used. Does he use his normal sword every time, or is it some weird glitch? elliot (talk) 19:32, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I have to confess I hadn't noticed. It took me so long to get an image I was happy with that I didn't see that he was using an ordinary sword... I'd like to see if other people have had this too. rpeh •TCE 19:36, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
I did that part of the quest multiple times now, reloading the autosave of entering the hall. He used his normal dagger at first, but at all my later attempts it was Keening. Seems to be glitchy. --Alfwyn 20:02, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
So yet another ***ing bug. It's just as well that I'm a Bethesda fanboi or I could really get upset with this crap. rpeh •TCE 20:08, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Sota Quest[edit]

I also have the same problem and the push block doesn't open the door the zombies are behind.I've tried to save then reload but neither the push block wont open the door to the left where the necromancer is found ,nor the pressure plate to open the door to the large room after entering the second chamber.--Cjofthy

Sorry... Which quest is this? rpeh •TCE 19:33, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm guessing Secrets of the Ayleids? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 20:13, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Weapon Plaque Glitch Fix[edit]

I've posted in a couple talk pages about it, but it doesn't seem to be getting noticed, and there are a variety of alternative fixes that are significantly more complicated that are scattered around various articles. I've found that shooting a problematic weapon plaque with an arrow seems to resolve the problem immediately. If somebody with access to PS3 and PC could confirm that (and a couple more xbox players wouldn't hurt) I think it would be worthwhile to include this on the various house pages. 70.26.140.186 20:55, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

I haven't seen most of the alleged glitches, so I might not be the best person to talk to here. I only have PC access so I can't really help here. rpeh •TCE 21:02, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
I figured I'd try asking an admin. Any suggestions for the best place to bring it up? WhackyGordon 21:05, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
If you have specific problems about a specific house, then I'd try the house's talk page - I think we've got good articles for each habitable location now. It seems odd that experience would vary so much, but maybe there are suggestions that could help. rpeh •TCE 21:12, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, the problem is there are multiple topics on many of the house talk pages related to this, but not a lot of replies and no cohesion. If all of those people could be directed to one place we might be able to get the most reliable workaround figured out, but there doesn't seem to be a good page for this discussion to occur in an appropriate scope. The glitches page is getting cumbersome, and the various talk pages are scattered and chaotic. (Don't take that the wrong way - the wiki looks beautiful - the situation is just a little inevitably hairy with the flood of new information and inexperienced users, such as myself) WhackyGordon 21:21, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Copyright[edit]

If you feel that our site has breached the template that you made in violation of this sites own license agreement, then please, sue me. Failing that - please respect Wikia's policies. (Also, I wont know if you've replied on here or not. I only signed up to leave you that challenge). Hows THAT for chicken, eh? You willing to put your money where your mouth is? :) Timeoin 03:11, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Little child, it's time you faced up to your thefts and to the fact that your sad little site relies on UESP for all its best content. This challenge shows once and for all that you know nothing of copyright law. Don't bother me again until your site has content we might think about stealing for ourselves. Judging by your recent activities, that might be a long, long time. rpeh •TCE 03:18, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Unusual category created by RoBoT[edit]

I was noticing on the Wanted Categories page there's a category for Category:Skyrim-Factions-, which seems to have been caused by a parsing error by RoBoT? All of these pages are created by the bot and have a broken link to a non-existent page in the summary, in addition to the erroneous category. Before I fix them all though, I wanted to make sure you weren't maybe leaving those there for some reason, like a faction that has no name or some other such weirdness. --TheRealLurlock Talk 04:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

The errors were popping up with the same categories. I went ahead and fixed them. elliot (talk) 06:25, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Anybody is welcome to fix them. rpeh •TCE 19:18, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
