City maps[edit]

Hi Lurlock, Image:MW_Map_Balmora.jpg is giving me an 404 error, and shows as a black box on the city page, GK had the same experience. Also, do we need file sizes of 632 KB, seems big. Cheers, BenouldTC 20:19, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

Well that was weird - it looked fine for me both on the image preview page and on the Balmora article, but when I clicked on the image itself to see it full-sized, I got a 404 as well. It may have just been a server-fart caused by high traffic or something, but I reuploaded it anyhow. As for size, well, Balmora is a big city. It's rendered at the same scale as all the other town maps I've done. I suppose I could crop a little off the sides, but it wouldn't benefit that much. Anyhow, 632 KB is nothing compared to :Image:OB-Map-Imperial City.jpg. I was also planning a full-scale map of Vivec at some point which will be on the large side. I may just map each canton individually to keep it under control. --TheRealLurlock Talk 21:22, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
Thanks, that did the trick. So maps can bust the 150k limit, that's good to know. Keep up the good work, BenouldTC 21:36, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
There's really no "150K limit". That's more of a guideline than an actual rule, I'm not even sure where they came up with that number. But getting an image this detailed down to 150K would make it look terrible with the level of JPG compression you'd have to use. I think maybe that's a holdover from Wikipedia, where larger images are definitely looked down upon. --TheRealLurlock Talk 21:54, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

Morrowind Images[edit]

I see you've been knocking out the MW pages needing images. BTW, where did that map on the Regions page come from? Anyway, I'd just like to let you know before you get started on the Clutter page that I'm working on that one. Don't want any duplication of effort! – KJR1012 Talk Email Contribs 14:51, 19 June 2008 (EDT)

I made the Regions map myself. It's a modification of the maps I made for Almsivi Intervention and Divine Intervention. I basically just laid out the regions in Excel and overlaid them onto a map image in Photoshop. As for Clutter, thanks - I wasn't actually planning on it, as I figured you'd eventually take care of it. After that, it's just a few for the Expansions, and we're done, I guess. Oh, and all the maps - umm... maybe later. --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:56, 19 June 2008 (EDT)

Enchant Cleanup[edit]

I'm doing a pass through the pages marked for maintenance and came across Morrowind:Enchant. You put the cleanup tag on back in Feb 2007 but there's no indication of what actually needs doing. Did you have anything in mind or can it come off now? –RpehTCE 18:17, 20 June 2008 (EDT)

It's probably fine now. I put that there after a rather messy merge of a couple different pages. There was a lot of first-person anecdotal stuff as I recall. I tried to edit most of that stuff out, but it was such a large page that I figured it was worth letting other people take a look before calling the job complete. --TheRealLurlock Talk 20:55, 20 June 2008 (EDT)

Redirects[edit]

In regards to this revert, I thought the point of Redirects was only to cover off commonly-searched terms, and that links should be direct links wherever possible. Why is hopping through a redirect the better choice? (And as for the crown, I think the resemblance is superficial at best in either case, but I'm not that worried about it.) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 02:46, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

I know what you mean, but there's a relatively simple rule: if the redirect is one of the "Redirects to Broader Subjects" ones, it's a good idea to link to it. The reason is that things on the large pages move around from time to time and it's difficult to make sure that every page linking to a section gets updated. If everything links using the redirects then we just have to change one well-defined set of pages to get everything working again. It's redirects like this that shouldn't be linked to. I'm sure there are dozens of exceptions to that rule, but it's the best I can come up with! –RpehTCE 03:24, 22 June 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, I thought of that possibility last night after I logged off. Thanks for the explanation! --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 13:44, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

boxes full of users[edit]

I found the page you directed me to and added 3 userboxes, the picture works for the first 2 but the 3rd one just says template:Kotn or something li,e that what do i dooo?<>< ~Its a Fish 15:30, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

It's just because the name is case-sensitive. Use {{User KotN}} (upper-case N) and it should be fine. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 16:52, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

MW Cursed Items[edit]

(I've moved this discussion to Morrowind talk:Cursed Items since it dicusses edits made to that article and will be easier to find later if there is followup to the discussion) --NepheleTalk 17:11, 28 June 2008 (EDT)
