This is my 40,000th edit.[edit]

They say life begins at 40,000. I'm not sure. TheRealLurlock (talk) 04:52, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

Yeah, I think you got that saying wrong as well. I'm pretty sure it was 400,000. Get on it! Cheers. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 05:22, 21 November 2012 (GMT)
LOL...congrats, TRL! Robin Hoodtalk 06:05, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

Lore Magic Pages[edit]

Splitting this section off as it's a new discussion.

Congrats! By the way, love the effects tables you added to the schools of magic lore pages! Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 17:16, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

Thanks. I actually wanted to try including the Daggerfall effects into those, but I don't know enough about the game. (Arena less so, since AFAIK the spells aren't broken into schools the same way.) Daggerfall of course has 1 more school of magic to deal with. The problem is the divisions between effects and schools doesn't seem to be as clean-cut as with later games. For example, the "Force Bolt" spell is in the Alteration school, but it is basically a combination of Shock Damage (typically Destruction) and Paralyze (which was Alteration in Daggerfall, and also Skyrim, but was in Illusion for Morrowind and Oblivion). Plus there's no individual effect pages to link to, so it'd only be text. Might be worth it for some historical perspective (like that Paralyze thing), but I might need help from someone who knows the game better. TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:52, 22 November 2012 (GMT)
I'm not sure Daggerfall will work with that format. As far as I know, the same spell effect can be used by multiple schools of magic. —Legoless (talk) 19:13, 22 November 2012 (GMT)
Actually, looking at it more closely, I think what's going on is that some spells can contain multiple effects from different schools. The spells themselves also belong to schools, but only based on the primary effect. It's hard to tell because that part of the site isn't very well organized. But going back to my original example, the Force Bolt spell uses a Destruction effect (Shock Damage) along with an Alteration effect (Paralyze), so it belongs to both schools, but is primarily a Destruction spell. What I need is a complete list of effects, which we don't seem to have. Shouldn't be too hard to get though - just go to a spell-maker and see what effects are available? I don't know. Somebody with access to the game is needed here. TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:39, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
Have you considered integrating other games into the tables? Battlespire's spell effects look easy enough, although some of the others may not be as straightforward or useful. —Legoless (talk) 22:50, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
I did think about doing Battlespire, but the problem is it's not just a straight inheritance anymore when you start including the smaller games. It does have the interesting distinction of showing the origin of the Conjuration school. (The Summon Monster effect is part of Thaumaturgy, but ultimately became Summon used in all the later games.) I just don't know how I'd slip those into the charts. For the most part, the spell selection for those games is much smaller, and they don't have the option to make your own spells, so the schools are more or less arbitrary. I could include them maybe as a footnote underneath the chart rather than in the chart proper. This would have the advantage that the charts won't become any wider (at least until TES VI, by which point we'll hopefully all have big wide-screen monitors with high enough resolution to support it). But I'd rather not add any more columns at this point - it's already getting a bit wide. TheRealLurlock (talk) 23:04, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
