Once his student came to the sage and asked:

"Explain to me why, having the same eyes as yours, I often do not notice what you notice."

The elder left the room and after a while returned, holding in his hands an ancient manuscript in a language unfamiliar to the student. Unrolling the scroll, he said:

"What do you see?"

The student, not wanting to betray his ignorance, replied:

"I see wisdom written centuries ago."

Then the sage said:

"In fact, in front of you is a note from an Akaviri merchant, - and I know and see this because once, not being afraid to admit to myself that I really do not know anything, I learned this language."
