Daggerfall Unity: Resting[edit]

The default key to rest is R. This opens the resting window with three options:

  • Loiter
  • Rest
  • Rest Until Healed

Within any civilized location, the player is only allowed to loiter from among these options; the sole exception is if you rent a room at a tavern and then try to sleep within that tavern, or if you own a home and try to sleep in that home. Loitering can be used to pass the time, which maintains the character's health, magicka, and stamina at their current levels.

While resting, stamina and magicka are restored at a rate of 12.5% of maximum per hour. Health is restored at a rate of ((Medical/10)+6)% of max health +- endurance modifier, plus any modification by Rapid Healing or Regenerate Health.

Attempting to rest inside an enclosed area, such in a small room or behind a locked door, has no effect on enemy spawn rates. (See the Enemy Generation page for more information.) If an enemy is trying to spawn but cannot (for instance, if there is no blind space behind the player to spawn in), the player will be unable to rest; a message will state "There are enemies nearby" with each attempt, and rest will be interrupted immediately. The only recourse is to get into a more open area to allow the enemy to spawn, and then dispose of it. (Note that this is different from attempting to rest while enemies have already been spawned nearby; in that case, the resting menu will not open at all.)

Resting does not provide any particular benefit against diseases or poisons.

Resting is impossible while in the air for any reason and while swimming. A player that is levitating can still rest if pressed against the ground.
