The Arano Plantation (Morrowind)
Adril Arano; Second Councilor of Raven Rock

The Arano Clan is an ancient family of Dunmer that lives in the province of Morrowind. They are one of the thirty revered families of Vvardenfell and active politicians in the province. For most of history, the Arano Clan were affiliated with the former Great House Hlaalu, but by the Fourth Era, they were part of House Redoran and worked with the councilor of Raven Rock.

The Arano Plantation was a small property in the Ascadian Isles region of southern Vvardenfell. It was built west of Suran and generally around Lake Masobi. The Arano Ancestral Tomb is located on the same island as Tel Branora, on the southern tip of it in the Inner Sea.

History[edit]

With the other twenty-nine ancient families of Vvardenfell, the Arano Clan hid the Library of Andule, the secret repository of the Great Houses and placed a clue in their ancestral tomb. Its location remained a secret for many years until Bradyn of the Library of Vivec enlisted an outlander to find the tombs and uncover it in 2E 582. They were able to find all thirty tombs and find the lost Library of Andule.

In that same year, Valveli Arano was a mage that escaped a headhunter and fled to Rivenspire's country, before she was killed by the Dark Brotherhood. Master Vilyn Arano was the proprietor of the plantation. He was a conspirator with the local magistrate of Suran, Marshal Hlaren and was affected by the vigilantism of the Scarlet Judge. Alavani Arano was a citizen in the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil, where she lived in the main population center, the Brass Fortress.

Sometime in the Third Era, the Arano family was approached by a homeless Imperial named Crassius Curio and instead of throwing him back into the streets, they took him in. Since then, he has grown in prominence when he released his best-selling work, the Lusty Argonian Maid. As a sign of gratitude, he gave them a rare folio edition of the erotic play. Crassius Curio would also become a Hlaalu councilor in Vvardenfell and live in a mansion in Vivec City's Hlaalu Canton. In 3E 427, Direr Arano was a retainer in House Hlaalu and owned the Arano Plantation, which was the only one in the area not run by slaves. Rernel Arano was a miner that worked in the Abaelun diamond mine northeast of Caldera. Roner Arano was a pawnbroker and ran a stall in the Great Bazaar district of Mournhold.

By 3E 433, members of the Arano family lived in Cheydinhal. Mivryna Arano worked in the local stables on the west gate and Tanasa Arano was a charwoman in the Riverview Inn. In secret, the latter was a sleeper agent of the Mythic Dawn. Her fate is unknown but she was assigned to slay the Hero of Kvatch after their infiltration of the cult's shrine in Lake Arrius. Another Arano named Myvryna lived in the Imperial City's Waterfront District and was hired by the Imperial Guard's watch captain, Hieronymus Lex as his mole in the Thieves Guild. In an attempt to evade his pursuit, the Thieves Guild planted the stolen bust of the deceased Countess Llathasa Indarys in Myvryna's cupboard, thus placing the blame on her and eliminating Lex's insider.

By the Fourth Era, the Arano Clan was part of House Redoran as one member, Adril Arano rose through the ranks together with his childhood friend, Lleril Morvayn. When news of Brara Morvayn's[Note 1] passing reached them in Blacklight in 4E 65, Lleril asked Adril to come with him. Adril and his wife, Cindiri left the capital city and have lived on Solstheim for over a hundred years. At the time, Adril had an overtly negative opinion of House Hlaalu and viewed them as traitors. In 4E 201, Cindiri Arano sent the rare folio of the Lusty Argonian Maid to be rebound in the First Edition in Cyrodiil. When it was sent back, it was lost on the coast of Solstheim. She was able to enlist an adventurer to retrieve it.

Notes[edit]

  • ^  Even though Adril says father in-game, this contradicts with the "History of Raven Rock, Volume II" which states that Lleril became councilor after his mother, Brara Morvayn passed and also the fact that Brara's husband, Remas Morvayn died by 3E 427.
