Sagacians were a group of unprincipled mages, scholars and researchers active in the Summerset Isle during the Interregnum in the Second Era. They considered the laws of Summerset to be too limiting and as an obstacle to their research. They abandoned all scruples and were researching dangers that were considered dangerous by the standards of the Summerset laws.

As of the 2E 582 they inhabited the ruins of Tor-Hame-Khard, and were considered "truly no better than bandits" by the representatives of the Divine Prosecution.

Little is known of the origins of the organization, but it was active and already infamous before the opening borders, as of 2E 581 when they stole countless relics of high value from various inhabitants of Summerset Isle. One year later, in 2E 582 they also began bribing government officials.

In that year the Divine Prosecution managed to locate one of their current bases of operation in the ruins of Tor-Hame-Khard, where they were conducting experiments. The deputy of the Divine Prosecution was sent to investigate the ruins in search of the illicit activity. Sagacians were responsible for the theft of many valuable relics, such as small coral carvings of High Elf warrior-heroes and other ancient figures.. The deputy was ordered to recover the relics and obtain documents and written plans that may help to track the movements of unlawful scholars. The documents included research requirements and locations of other hideaways. The deputy successfully finished the mission and revealed the secrets of the organization to the Divine Prosecution. They pledged to remove the Sagacian presence from the isles once they obtain the necessary resources, although it is unknown whether they succeded.

In the same year, the rogue group of scholars were paid to acquire an Abyssal Pearl, playing on Justiciar Avanaire's love and concern for her skooma-addicted sister, who was paid by the scholars to betray her sister and put on an act. While the Pearl was bound for the College of Sapiarchs, the justiciar had stolen it, stowing it away deep within Tor-Hame-Khard. Sagacians were researching the properties of the pearl and concluded that the relic was powered by the Soul Magic. Pearl's innate magical abilities attracted Yaghra and caused a few casualties among the scholars. They planned to move the pearl to a safer location, farther inland or even away from Summerset entirely.

Soon after the pearl was stolen, a group of Divine Prosecution agents was dispatched to recover the artifact but were swiftly defeated by the Sagacians. One of the agents managed to escape, and recruited an adventurer to help the Divine Prosecution. Sagacian's plot was foiled when the adventurer was able to defeat Avanaire, who realized that she was betrayed, before Yaghra and other dangerous creatures summoned by the pearl could spread from the ruins.
