Fargrave

The Saraathu Tong was a syndicate of outcast mages who controlled a significant portion of trade in Fargrave. They were scholars of primarily, but not only, Dunmeri origins that were cast out of Morrowind for offending the Tribunal. The Tong swore allegiance to House Hlaalu. They used their expertise with portal magic to supply House Hlaalu with trade goods from across the planes. The organization had a pact with the fearsome being known as Quath that allowed them to study magics and portals within Fargrave.

Saraathu Tong's headquarters were located in the city of Fargrave. Their official stalls were placed in the Bazaar. The organization offered guidance, advice, and employment for the mortal inhabitants of the city. They also provided interplanar teleportation services for those not affiliated with House Hlaalu, but the particulars of transliminal transit were tightly guarded secret within the organization. Inner workings of many other spells utilized by the organization were kept secret from non-members.

The Saraathu Tong's artificers have been attempting to unravel secrets of Oblivion for millennia. Despite their efforts, numerous aspects of the Oblivion remained outside of their understanding.

Saraathu Tong had an arrangement with another prominent mortal organization, Gleaners of Aurbis. They provided them with more advanced teleportation services, such as travel to places that are not readily connected to the portal plazas of Fargrave or transport to specific locations quickly and secretly. Gleaners provided services of their thieves and spies in return. They also cooperated with House Hexos.

Saarathu Tong employed different kinds of scholars and artisans other than magical transportation specialists including but not limited to: mage-smiths, daedrologists, master poisoners,, treasurers, healers, and scriers.

Retainers of Saraathu Tong were discouraged from entering the Shambles and especially its eastern section, Skein Row unless absolutely necessary.

Despite the vast influence of the syndicate certain wares sold within the Fargrave were unknown to the Saraathu Tong.

History

At some point in the history Pieron Desant of Gleaners of Aurbis stole a vial of the glowing ink from the desk of the leader of the Saraathu Tong. The ink had special properties and the only ones who could see the ink were the ones who worked for him. Ever since then the Gleaners of Aurbis also use this ink in their work in multiple ways.

Some time before 2E 582, Nathyn Farandas, Chief of Security to the Saraathu Tong noticed the arrival of the Anchorite to the city of Fargrave. Her desire to help anyone in need was quickly noticed as problematic for the syndicate. Due to her actions that could complicate Saraathu Tong affairs, Nathyn Farandas sought her out. They met soon as the Anchorite herself found the Chief of Security first. She refused to stop her activities and requested Saarathu Tong to aid the poor citizens of Fargrave for free, but the request was declined. Although they reached no agreement, the Anchorite was deemed no immediate threat to the interests of the Saraathu Tong.

Circa 2E 582, the organization recruited the help of the Vestige to free the members of the organization. Retainers of Saraathu Tong were imprisoned by the Dagonites of the Order of the Waking Flame and then left drugged outside Taupezu Azzida—a Mantikora's lair. Vestige has slain the Mantikora, rescued the prisoners, and provided them with the antidote for the toxin. They also harvested the venom of Mantikora for the alchemists of the Tong. Syndicate coveted the toxin because was a key ingredient of the Daze - a drug commonly used by the Daedra. The organization also requested the adventurer to destroy of the stolen liminal rods - tools used in transportation magic.

Another task given by the Saraathu Tong was killing the Unmaker - a powerful Infernium that took out a group of Daedric merchants working for the Tong.. They also requested the adventurer to place seeing stones to store information about what happens near where they're placed in the lair of the Unmaker to track its unusual reformation speed, and retrieve daedric armor and weapons stored at Unmaker's lair for Saraathu Tong's mage-blacksmith. He needed more resources and hoped to learn more about Daedric crafting techniques.
