Merge[edit]

I'm proposing to re-merge this article into Lore:Ald'ruhn. Obviously they are on two opposite sides of the map, but this is not the first time a settlement's location has been retconned to the other side of a mountain (looking at you, Whiterun). It is clear from the name and from the noted concept map that the two places are meant to be the same. —Legoless (talk) 12:12, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

I'd have to disagree because this retcon can't be explained reasonably. It comes too close to having to fabricate a story to explain the name change, when we know its just a retcon. Even something small like "Sometime between the mid-Second Era and the Imperial Simulacrum, Ald'ruhn became known as Old Run" doesn't sit right because its speculation. We can gloss over the change in location, but the name is an issue and Whiterun doesn't have that problem. --Jimeee (talk) 13:49, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
Does the same exact issue not apply to Markarth Side and Sil-Var-Woad? Plenty of Arena places have changed location and name, the map in that game is not a very reliable source. The morph from Old Run -> Aldrun -> Ald'ruhn should be enough. It's also worth referring to this interview, where the ESO writers explained that they consider the Arena maps to have been drawn by Imperials who imperialized the place names.
Looking at the edit history, it turns out I was actually the one to remove the information from the Ald'ruhn page in the first place. Sufficed to say, my position has changed. —Legoless (talk) 13:59, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
So those two examples. Markarth Side still contains the word "Markarth" - I'd probably say the same if they retconned it to "Moorkarth" or whatever. Sil-Var-Woad was confirmed by Schick himself. He specifically said Empire cartographers imperialized the name Sil-Var-Woad into Silver Wood. Now you can make an argument that the same thing happened to Ald'ruhn, but I think it would be better placed in the Notes section as opposed to the main body. --Jimeee (talk) 14:08, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I went back to rewatch the Schick quote I mentioned. I originally thought he was talking about Sil-Var-Woad only, but he actually mentions it in terms of ALL TES:Arena maps were to some degree imperialized by cartographers. Based on that point I'd say its no longer speculation and i'd relax my view. I'd assume the explanation would note 3rd Era imperialization in some way as a reference point. --Jimeee (talk) 14:35, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
