Does not deal in this type of item[edit]

What does this mean? I thought the game doesn't distinguish between magical items, i.e. if an NPC has "Magical Items" checked on the AI window, then it would buy any magical item. Isn't it this way? --DrPhoton 03:48, 28 November 2007 (EST)

I'm pretty sure the "Magical Items" flag means an NPC will buy and sell enchanted versions of the item classes they sell. So if an NPC deals in weapons and magical items, it means they will deal with enchanted weapons. But if they don't deal in both weapons AND magical items, they will not. Thus, since the only types of items that can be enchanted are armor, clothing, weapons, and books, NPCs must be able to deal in those items for the "Magical Items" flag to have any meaning. I can't test this right now due to technical difficulties. But since there's no other flag that determines whether an item is "magical", I can't think of any other way this would work. (For instance, soul gems might be considered "magical", but as far as the CS is concerned, they're just another Misc item.) If you have done testing that proves otherwise, let me know, but I was relatively certain this is how it works. --TheRealLurlock Talk 07:14, 28 November 2007 (EST)
I haven't done any tests, but it was my belief that the "Magical Items" flag was independent of other flags, e.g. if an NPC has only the "Magical Items" and the "Misc Items" flags checked, then it would deal with both magical items and misc items. This behaviour would clear the NPCs not dealing with anything in the list, like Sharn gra-Muzgob. Unfortunately, I can't test this right now either, also for technical reasons :(. Maybe someone else can... --DrPhoton 08:29, 28 November 2007 (EST)
All I can say is that Daveh's charts on User:Daveh/Morrowind_Npcs seem to agree with me on this count. (Though there are some other errors on these charts, so it's not 100% reliable. For instance, most merchants with the MagicItems flag are listed as selling Spells, even though they do not necessarily.) Anyhow, let's just put it this way: I really, really hope I'm right. The number of wares charts that would need to be redone at this point if I'm not is simply staggering... --TheRealLurlock Talk 09:41, 28 November 2007 (EST)

Confusing Data, Clarification Needed in Intro[edit]

The table lists a number of vendors who "deal in magic items" but don't have any items of that type for sale. Does this mean they BUY them but don't sell them? (If they don't buy OR sell them, then I don't see why they're on the list at all...) If so, could we rewrite the introduction text to make this a bit clearer to new players who don't already know what this means? Overall I think the intro text needs to be edited to make the data in the table much more accessible. --Llareian 03:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for pointing it out. --GKtalk2me 17:57, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
