Ernanthil is a High Elf who offers the player a rogue's job, when the cup of Fortune is chosen at the Roadside Ruins. All interactions with him are by dead-drop letters until he finally appears in Eslaf's room in The Warrens of Markarth during your battle with his brother Cuinanthil, the course of which he watches.

He wears typical thieves guild garb that cannot be looted.

Quest-Related Dialogue

He dismisses most of the players comments (or any delay in commenting) with variations on "It can't be helped. Thank you and all that. Enough of this. Such things are best forgotten." If you select, "I think I'll kill you and take it all." He is aghast, draws his knife but shortly runs away.
