Quick Walkthrough

1. Speak to Ralam Othravel and follow him into his tower.
2. Speak to Ralam Othravel in his tower and get his Carefully Written Note.
3. Retrieve Introduction to Hermaean Logic from Almas Thirr.
4. Retrieve Hyperagonal Media Theorem from Tel Thenim in Port Telvannis.
5. Retrieve Transpontine Circumpenetrations from Zalitalan, east of Alt Bosara in Telvannis District.
6. Return to Ralam in the basement of his tower for payment, and ask to 'observe the ritual'.
7. After the ritual has completed, speak to Ra'Thibalthad.
8. Enter the rift and retrieve the books.
9. Exit the rift, and retrieve the coded package from Ra'Thibalthad.
10. Journey to Old Ebonheart castle, and give the package to Prince Ji'Morashu-ri in the Elsweyr Mission.

Detailed Walkthrough

1. Speak to Ralam Othravel. He is outside the tower of Ald Volos - follow the river north of that tower to its source. He is by the waterfalls. Speak to him and note that you mean no harm, and agree to follow him into his tower - he will unlock the door. Discussion with him on the rift, pocket realms and other matters of esoteric nature will have him give you a Carefull Written Note. You need to find the books on it.
   • The Introduction to Hermaen Logic can be purchased from Tilresi's bookshop in the Canalworks of Almas Thirr, for a base cost of 300 gold.
   • Tel Thenim is the main Telvanni tower Port Telvannis. Speak to Rilvin Dral in the Archmagister's Chamber, and ask him about the book. He will give it to you, having committed it to memory some time ago.
   • Transpontine Circumpenetrations is in Zalitalan. This cave is on the river leading out of Lake Boethiah, in Telvannis District, and is directly southwest of the dragon-headed Dragonhead Point. The enemies here are high-level mages, with a number of magical items and assistant Daedra/Undead. The book you are looking for is held by Delna, the mage in the room with Frost, Fire and Storm Atronachs.
2. Once all books have been secured, return to Ralam in the basement of Ald Volos for your reward. He will ask if you want to 'observe the ritual' - say yes.
3. The ritual will be performed, opening the rift. Water will pour from the centre. Speak to Ra'Thibalthad when he appears. He will ask you to enter the rift - do so by moving into the fountaining water.
4. You need to find the three books in the water. Use the Detect Key scrolls Ra'Thibalthad gave you. While the Detect Key effect is active, check your local map - the key locations will be marked. Some of the corpses in this area carry potions of water breathing.
5. Once all three books are retrieved, exit the rift by entering the centre of the white foam.
6. Back in Ald Volos, retrieve a coded package from Ra'Thibalthad (on the stairs leading down into the ritual room).
7. Journey to the Ebon Tower in Old Ebonheart, and give the package to Prince Ji'Morashu-ri in the Elsweyr Mission. Explain exactly what happened for maximum reward. On no account call Ra'Thibalthad a Bosmer (or say he was eaten by a tiger), or your reward will be much reduced.
