Bergama is a political entity found in the province of Hammerfell, in the region of the Iliac Bay. Bergama is a small and landlocked country in the vast expanse of the Alik'r Desert. The original city was founded by the Na-Totambu as a place to preserve their ancient and sacred traditions in peace, away from the influences of Tamrielic practices. The people of the barony can tell little to no difference where their homeland ends and where the Alik'r Desert begins. To them, they are one with the Alik'r, which is the philosophy of the desert people as the scholar, Enric Milres wrote in his memoir. The Anthotis clan of vampires are active in Bergama.

History[edit]

The original settlement of Bergama was founded during the times of the Ra Gada, in the mid-First Era. It was built by the Na-Totambu as a place to preserve their traditions and to keep them away from other societies. It is unknown when Bergama was designated as a barony.

By 3E 405, the Barony of Bergama was ruled by an unknown Baron. It was completely surrounded by the Alik'r Desert. When the province was incorporated into the Third Empire, the barony was given a patron deity in the form of Akatosh, who is represented through the Akatosh Chantry. The Barony of Bergama was invaded by the nearby Forebears Kingdom of Sentinel on the 9th of Frostfall. The capital city was sacked and the entire country was absorbed into Sentinel by the 11th of Frostfall. In that same night, most of northern Hammerfell was also annexed into the Kingdom under the reign of the Regent-Queen, Akorithi. The newly-expanded Kingdom had reached as far west as Abibon-Gora to the distant east at the edge of Mournoth.

As time went on, Queen Akorithi had passed away and the throne was succeeded by her last living son, Lhotun. King Lhotun became involved in military, diplomatic, and even religious missions to keep the former Crown nations such as Bergama underneath his wing. Seeing no other choice in the matter, the King created a third political party called the Lhotunics, which was a gray area compared to what was already established. This decision ensued a heated response from the High Prophet of Elinhir, Ayaan-si, who called upon the True Crowns and openly rebelled against the Kingdom of Sentinel. He started to finance forays throughout Bergama and Dak'fron and by the waning years of the Third Era, the Fiefdom of Totambu had ceded from Sentinel.

City of Bergama[edit]

Bergama is a large city found in the dry canyons of the Alik'r Desert, in the province of Hammerfell. It is a vast and bustling trading city that is occupied by the Crowns. It is described as a sanctuary in the treacherous landscape of the Alik'r, and it was built by the Na-Totambu as a place to preserve their ancient traditions from Lost Yokuda, and keep it from being influenced by Tamrielic customs. Bergama is the seat of power for the eponymous Barony of Bergama, a political entity that is located in the southern Iliac Bay region, surrounded by the vast expanse of the Alik'r. The city was specifically located in the south end of the barony.
