Zaitoshi's Psalms for Dawn: The Gift of A Name
by Zaitoshi Della'I, Nemeric Playwright & Bard
A traditional song sung for bat elven infants in the Yneslean archipelago

Zaitoshi's Psalms are a collection of songs written by the great poet Zaitoshi Della'I in the early In'eslaen Second Era, which are considered to be highly important to Echmer culture. The Psalms are traditionally condensed into two different volumes―Zaitoshi's Psalms for Dawn and Zaitoshi's Psalms for Dusk―based off of the emotions meant to be conveyed and the situation the individual psalm is supposed to be used in.

The Gift of A Name is a quintessential psalm in bat elven society, as it is traditionally sung to newborn children one year after their birth in a ritualistic celebration by family and friends as they are finally given a name. Normally, most bat elf infants are called Am'ne-I (a High Ek'hi word that means "my most precious thing") or Uyad'ai (another High Ek'hi word that means "look at my joy") before they are given a true name. It is also believed that Zaitoshi received inspiration for this psalm from the first Echmeri Gerentess herself, Ravara Raelei, upon hearing the words she spoke to her firstborn with Anhano in days long, long ago.

Oh blessed child, oh new life of mine,

My greatest treasure, my sweet Am'ne-I.

Bore to me like a sweet fruit, on life's great vine,

Symbolizing yesteryear's dreams, and our time.

Before you came, before I held you in arm,

I dreamed of you, and vowed to do you no harm.

A solemn promise, one brought by new love,

To stay no matter how far, below or above.

I sing these words to you now, before I may die,

As you stare upon me, with wondrous eye.

There may come pain, there may come strife,

But I welcome you Am'ne-I, to this new life.

We are born in Shadow, but I will be your Sun,

When you are in Darkness, to my Light you may Run.

My little bundle of hope, you will come to know,

That wherever you are, I will never let you go.

In this I pray, as this bond is ordained,

I won't turn from you, so don't be afraid.

Even as the leaves wizen, as my life is drained,

I will always look upon you, this life I have made.

So even when my life grows silent,

And we find ourselves worlds apart.

My spirit's love will remain defiant,

And I will remain in your heart.

But for now I shall cling, for now I shall hold,

I'll cling on to you, we won't ever part ways.

For when you're in my hands, it's like time slows,

And in this moment we'll stay, for all of our days.

I will stay with you, (Name),

For all my days...
